I'd like to run the race. I really would. But Saturday night is Daytona night. You know. Dale Jr's last race at Daytona. As much as I'd like to run, I don't think I can. Plus I haven't got any practice in, (literally just got back from minnisota like 5 minutes ago.)

I'll practice with the Mazda LM55 and if for any reason, I can't watch the race or it gets delayed, I'll race but otherwise, I just can't.

To the guys in the practice lobby earlier I feel like I have to apologise for sounding a little uncooperative on the help front... I'd gladly help anyone that needs some tips on a tune if I can give some, LMP or GT.

I kinda just said the whole "after the race" part as a bit of a joke, but part of my style is to have a few tricks up my sleeve, especially around a relatively new crowd.

Kinda why I didn't drive on RS and/or in my SLS. speaking of not driving in my SLS, that Nissan wasn't quite on the pace I was hoping for...

In short, you're bagging.

Also, Racingline did his quali on an SLS when it was already locked, how does this work out?

Don't forget this event is for fun and not a part of a championship. So, pick a car and get some practice in and we'll see you soon!

Qualifying:

Qualifying for this event will take place all week in the community section on GT6. Go to the American Racing Series club and sign up for the qualifying event. https://www.gran-turismo.com/us/gt6/user/#!/clubid/1059310/ You must qualify to participate in this event. There will be a few exceptions based on experience with our group. Please use racing soft tires for qualifying. In the event of too many drivers for any one class, we will make make adjustments and ask everyone to be flexible. If you opt to change classes on race day you will start from the rear of that class. Each driver is allowed 2 attempts for qualifying. The sessions will be 15 minutes long.

Pace Lap:

At race start there will be a pace lap, please give plenty of room to the drivers around you. Do not crowd or tailgate. This is for respect for other drivers and for lag. With heavy damage turned on lag can potentially cause serious problems on a pace lap so please leave room. The field for both classes will begin to group up for race start after the bus stop chicane. Once again, leave room for your competitors and do not bunch up too tight or cause the accordion effect.

The driver with pole position, in each class, may begin accelerating to start the race anywhere between the exit of the last chicane and the start/finish line
.

Pace Lap Speed:
  • 100 mph / 120 kph
  • Before the pit entry slow to 50 mph / 80 kph
  • Gap of approx. 30 seconds between classes.
Race:
  • Everyone please be patient with everyone.
  • Opening lap, be patient going into turn one. I really do not want people quitting after one lap because of damage. Take it easy this thing will not be won on the opening lap but it could be lost.
  • Be patient with lapped traffic, if possible flash your headlights when approaching lapped traffic
  • Lapped cars and GT class, be aware that faster cars are coming through. If you can make room to let them by, make it obvious. Otherwise hold the racing line and faster traffic will work around you.
  • The chat box is not to be used to criticize or berate anyone. It is a distraction to all the other drivers and only to be used for minimal communication
  • Standard race etiquette will be expected from all drivers
  • If you caused an accident, allow the car/s to rejoin ahead of you
  • All cars involved in an incident must rejoin the track safely and only when clear
  • Heavily damaged vehicles must do their best to stay off the racing line and avoid further contact
  • Lapped cars cannot interfere or compete with lead lap cars.
  • Keep at least 2 tires inside the white lines at all times, the white lines not the curbs.

If you are still interested after all that, post your PSN name and car choice below. If your car is paintable please specify color. No chrome please.

For those who are just checking this out. Here is the OP for this race. It is on page 34 2nd post down.

Testing with @Storm_SP17 and @Sinyster in the ARS club. Already confirmed that the black Audi #1 is fundamentally different (203mph top end) than the silver Audi #2 (199mph top end). Easy oversight to make but if you look closely at the aerodynamic features on both cars you will see just how different they are. Anyways, that shouldn't be an issue as both R18s in the race are identical.

EDIT: After some "scientific breakdown" and R&D the delta between the two aren't as bad as initially thought.

Can I run a car for fun in QP please?

To answer your question @SRT DK Racing, as comfortable as an animal with hooves would be driving a motor vehicle. :)

I can safely say Antares and I have different approaches to the race that caters for our pace or perhaps a lack of, depending on who you ask and which of these it relates to.

Awesome! I'm fine with it going towards my QPs as a "punishment" of sorts by the way. Its only fair, seeing as though others are going to use 2 properly.

One thing I want to ask... how are you setting the race end timer?

Since this is not done by time, there may be a case where some of the GT cars will just be lapped, while others will be half way through a lap when leader in LMP finishes the race and triggers said timer.

Surely you'll allow enough time for GT cars to finish the lap their on and lineup behind finished LMPs, no?

I think race end timer should be set for one extra lap like always. Prolly four minutes, @aceboy127?

it says 1 pacelap + 38 laps and iff a car lose , lets say 20 sec per lap thats 12,66666 min over the entire race , so I would susgest that the timer goes to the max. because then will the slower cars have the chance to do the 38 laps to ,It would be something of a achievement in itself :)

I believe the maximum race-end timer setting is something in the 4 minute range. That said, the GT cars should be able to complete the lap they are on, but like the ARS Super GT series I'd advise that once that lap is complete you should consider your race finished and hold position for the remainder of the timer to expire. That way all GT cars should be able to take the flag barring a crash and you won't have to race in-and-out of finished prototypes going slow on the track.

Eh, I've done a series where we did that, essentially allowed GTs to run a few more laps while the LMPs acted like inconvenient rolling roadblocks... it never ends well...

I'd prefer enough time for GT to complete a lap and that's it, have us pause mode behind the winner/last LMP to finish on lead lap.

The maximum end timer is 180 seconds (3 minutes). That is what the timer will be set to. I hope that allows everyone to finish the lap they're on after the leader takes the checkered flag.

I hope that allows everyone to finish the lap they're on after the leader takes the checkered flag.
The only way this wouldn't be the case is a GT car just started the lap less than 1 minute or so before the overall winner, and even then it's not race-breaking of someone doesn't make it back in time. They'll just have to race it out until the timer hits 0. As for cars who are able to figuratively take the checkered flag, they are to hold position on track (no overtaking) and reduce speed until the race is over, correct? This might be good information to add to the race OP, as well as the caution rules if not already, I might just be blind.

I'd be a fan of people hitting pause once they've successfully completed their last lap after the leader finishes and the end timer ticks down. Kinda simulates the slowing down that completing the allocated number of laps would do.

That said, you'll get that one dude that will hit pause before the line, hilarious if they're side by side with a competitor into the last corner!

If we do have voice chat on during the race, then it'll be much easier to relay to the field about the final lap once the overall winner crosses the line.

Just set room to endurance mode race for 3hrs and when winner crossed the finish line (39 laps) write to chat box "checked flag". Then everyone have plenty of time to finish their last lap. After finish line everyone push pause and when last one is finised all can exit to longe and save the replay.
No cautions please.

Edit: Or just park at the Dunlop corner in finishing order.
