I don't know about you guys but I would love the day if PD would add the ability to restrict the tranny type to a manual one and to be able to restrict ABS. Thoughts?

Is there any reason to believe that they would do this? It seems pretty weird to get annoyed by something that as far as I'm aware PD has no interest in doing.

That would be unfair to those who don't have a high-end set of pedals.

And, for many, using automatic transmission can be a disadvantage.

Maybe not so much the ABS as the tranny restriction is more important to me. I see your point with the ABS but many people still insist on using AT. Being able to force that out on some of the very serious lobbies would be a god send for some people, including myself. Just because it's in the game doesn't mean it has to be used for lobbies in which AT is acceptable.

I'm sure that there are some serious drivers who deserve to race in a serious lobby and would rather use automatic. It's just a personal choice and doesn't need to be restricted.

So now you want PD to implement these restrictions? I'm confused.

Of course I'd like to see them implement it. It's natural that I'd want to see it implemented if I like the idea :P

Then why does the OP say that you would rue the day that PD implemented them?

And restricting either one of those is a terrible idea that wouldn't accomplish anything but breed more elitism online. Almost as bad as the people that keep calling for PD to allow rooms to force the entire HUD off.

And what about cars that are only available in automatic in real life? Should they be able to be restricted to manual? That wouldn't be very realistic. :)

Edited, sorry for the confusion. :P

As for the HUD idea, I use no HUD quite a bit with premium cars, but it can't be done with standard cars. So I agree with you there the forcing no HUD thing is utterly stupid.

Finding loop holes are we now? Obviously that would be a simple exception.

Not sure how. You don't need high-end pedals to drive without ABS. Basic pedals and DS3 brakes work just fine, it just takes time to master the technique. It takes time to master the way the brakes work without ABS with any setup. Also, having ABS forced off means everyone has to deal with lockup and there's less chance of being surprised by someone using a completely different braking technique.

And driving without TC can be a disadvantage for some people. So can driving without SRF. So can driving without Race Softs. So can driving a car with lots of power. So can driving on a track they aren't good at.

No reason to exclude ABS and AT from the list of things people can choose about how they would like to have their rooms set up. Elitists will always be there, giving everyone more options won't make them worse.

I'm all for freedom to choose. I'd love a customisable HUD & I don't see any harm in having the option to turn off automatic tranny or ABS. Just having the option doesn't mean you have to use it, but I'd like to enter races with NO aids

Except it was specifically mentioned as being something the OP would like in order to keep certain people out of certain lobbies, so it obviously will.

Well, the point of restrictions is to restrict things. If you wish to have a lobby without something, you use a restriction to have it not used. That's not elitism, that's setting up rules for a race and controlling your own lobby.

I don't see the OP making any suggestion here that "people who can't drive without MT are scum and losers." They just want to have that control.

Jerks will always be jerks with whatever tools they have. It's not the tools' fault.

I couldn't care less about AT but I don't have a problem with it being controllable. I would love to see the option for ABS. Don't expect it will ever happen though.

ABS may be a little tough for those of us who dont have fancy pedals. Or any pedals to speak of.

But the manual transmission? Go for it.

No; soon enough, people are going to ask for the option to Country(User) restrict, Wheel/Controller restrict, DLC restrict...honestly the only additions I would want to see would be would be Make, Model, and production-only restrictions, along with the PP, Power/weight, and Vehicle categorization (ex. "LMP Only") currently in today's lobbies.

IMHO, the brakes are not modelled poorly and although I've practiced with ABS off, I've never raced with them as they are just too far off what real brakes would feel like, especially with the DFGT. So I could care less if that option was there I'd never use it.

As for automatic transmission, I don't care either. On a lot of cars it's a real disadvantage, and at best it gets you to even with manual so let people use it as far as I'm concerned.

+1

I answered Rutabaga to the survey because I am disgusted by this question. Driving an automatic vs. driving a manual doesn't make you less of a driver and if you think it does then you are severely mistaken. If you are so bent on making sure people don't use ABS and/or an automatic transmission then go open a private lounge and invite people in by stating your rules. I started driving a manual by using the DS3 after a fellow GTP member suggested that I would be faster by doing so. Its fun, but its not for everyone and forcing it on other users is something I would never do.

There have been public lobbies where ABS was banned. The host had to check every user before race that they entered with ABS off and they might still had turned it on during the race. Having option to ban ABS would make life easier for those hosts. I myself like to drive race cars without ABS as it brings in the real life element of brake pedal management. You can see drivers lock their brakes all the time in real life motor sports, not so in GT5 land. In addition the racing tires give so much grip that it really isn't that hard to brake without the ABS anyway...

I would like to see the AT/MT option for the simple reason that I can not recall many race (or used for racing) cars without at least semi-manual transmissions, but the abs seems a bit far since most cars do come factory sealed with it. I don't know if you could even order a newer sports car like say a Z06 without it if you wanted to do so. ?? But I agree completely that the manual transmission only should be a selectable option.

You contradicted yourself here.

And appeal to realism is a fallacy even when it does apply, which it does not in this case.

Oh jeebus. Clearly it's a video game but nevermind that.

Is that link supposed to prove anything?

If you are going to say that it shouldn't be restricted because in real life cars come with it, you cannot say that MT/AT should be restricted because real race series don't allow it. First of all, it is a glaring double standard; but more importantly, who cares what real racing series allow?

If you guys want it realistic then get rid of your racing tyres on street cars first.
Then you can talk about no ABS or driving with MT.

That´s nice 👍 . Go on.

Now open a lobby and name it " real , MT , no ABS " and count the ppl entering the lobby. ;)

I can and will say whatever I please and your opinion in the matter is unimportant. I'll thank you to kindly troll someone else as I have no interest in your comments. :)

Indeed. I don't know why people feel so threatened by ABS restrictions when most of the lobbies wouldn't use it anyway. ;)
