Good fun tonight in the 3 lap race. I think I am better in the dark than daylight...what does that say for my skills ;) . The 6 lap race stunk since I lose the draft near the end of lap 1 when I was trying to follow Owens and I biffed it. Should be an interesting week of racing. I like the time change way more than I thought. The interior of this car at dusk and dawn is just incredible.

GT5 graphics are second to none.

Technology today is amazing. That's is recorded by rubber banding my iPhone to a tripod and filming the TV screen. Then posted to YouTube from phone.

I am simply tickled with the simplicity and quality one gets from today's phones.

Anyway. GT5 is stunning.

Any problems from The bug last night? I ran a few laps early on with cc570 and when watching the race there was a bit of tearing and lag visible. And that was with only two of us in the room! Mind you, I hadn't cleared my cache and there was quite a bit in there as it took a good ten seconds to clear out.

Anyone updated to 2.03 yet? I must remember to do this when I get home tonight so that I'm not doing it just before practise starts.

^ No bug last night but we didn't have enough people to trigger it, only 8 at the most I think. Good times though, I really enjoy the day to night to day time change a lot and I think it's going to make for a pretty cool race. :)

EDIT: Where's the inevitable Hidden Features thread?? I want to know what's in the new update! :)

I ran fine last night with up to 8 people I believe. Hard to be as precise in the dark with the car. Going to be a bit of accidental curb hopping at night methinks. For me anyway...lol. It's fun driving at night, something I've mostly avoided up until now. I imagine it would be a lot more difficult in an LMP car. The triple screen probably gives you a slight advantage here in the dark.

I downloaded the update last night and had a quick look. I don't see anything new other than what was "leaked" last week. Nothing major either and nothing really affecting overall gameplay. A little disappointing :indiff:

I haven't had any time to practice driving in the dark so if I make it to tonight's race I'll most likely "cheat" and crank up the brightness. It's an option for ya.

Brandon how does quali work this week? I assume we'll have time for an out lap and two hot laps? Even that takes about 15 minutes! If we set a time limit (15 minutes) and someone just starts their 3rd hot lap before the time limit we'll have a 5 minute wait for them to finish the lap.

Also, once our final hot lap is complete can we just hit start and exit directly to the pits rather than driver around manually? I hope so and I don't think this screws up the timing monitor. At least not before the 2.03 update... who knows what they changed.

One note is that yesterday for the practice race the starting order was messed up. I had the fastest time in practice and started in the back of the field. Not sure what was different from normal procedures, but hope it doesn't get messed up in the official races. Probably with a proper room reset and everyone on track for 15 minutes it will be fine. Haven't seen a timing issue for a while in the game so hope they don't come back. That's one thing they actually fixed in a recent update.

I've been trying to figure out how to handle qualifying at this track, it poses some problems we don't normally face. I think I'll just do 15 minutes and let people finish the lap they're on. It takes just under 5 minutes to do a lap so as long as everyone gets out on track in the first minute or two they should be close to completing their 2nd hot lap when 15 minutes is up. So we shouldn't have to wait more than a minute or two. If anyone happens to be starting their 3rd hot lap just after time expires I'll ask them to abandon that lap. We'll just do 1 group no matter how many people are in the room since it's such a big/long track.

Yes, you can always just hit exit and return to the pits/lounge. It doesn't have any effect on the starting order if we're following procedure. The grid was screwy last night because we weren't following procedure. If you were fastest, went to the lounge and then came back on track but didn't complete a timed lap it will have started you at the back. You don't get re-classified until you complete a timed lap and then it will put you back in your proper ranking.

One note, qualifying will be done completely in the daylight, no dark laps.

Just on the subject of qualifying, as we are all adults and sensible, can we simply ask people to do one warm up lap, two hot laps and then return to the pits? Once everyone is back in the pits, everyone can then have two minutes for a pit stop (10laps at around 5mins a lap could spell trouble for those with weak bladders!). Then the time progression can be applied and the race can be started.

Does that sound workable?

Plus we need to remind everyone that there is a mandatory pitstop during the race which can be taken anytime before the last lap.

Just out of curiosity, what are the time change settings? Is it going to be set up so that the 10 lap race is a 24 hour time lapse? What time will it be when we start?

I ran a couple laps this morning before work. I've never driven at night in the game, it's a lot of fun. I'm not sure which tracks allow time change, but I think a night race would be cool as well.

I'd like to think so, but experience has told me otherwise. What I proposed should effectively do the same thing. Just watch the timing monitor to make sure nobody is starting a 3rd hot lap.

We will start at 15:00 on the time change clock and progression will be set to 22. This doesn't do an actual 24 hour cycle, if we did that the transition from light to dark would only take about 30 seconds. With my settings we start in afternoon light, then to sunset which transitions to full night (should take about one half-to-three quarters of a lap to go from dusk to total darkness), it will be totally dark for about 10-15 minutes and then start getting light again, full daylight for the last 2 laps or so.

The details for the special event are now posted in the special event thread:

GTP_WRS vs ORCA - Special Event - Jan 28

The OP of the thread and next two posts contain all the details. Stage 1 is already underway in the form of the time trials.

If you've already expressed interest please confirm your attendance using the google form -- link and instructions found on the 3rd post. You can set your status to confirmed, cancel or reserve. If you can't commit set your status to reserve and you have until Tuesday Jan 24th to either cancel or confirm.

If you haven't signed up previously registration is still open and unlimited. All speeds/skill levels welcome. We'll be splitting the group into different lounges by speed (based on time trial results) so everyone should get some close racing action.

EDIT: Post any questions or comments regarding the special event in the special event thread and not here.

I was going to suggest the same thing, out lap, two qualifying laps and you're done. No need to watch the clock really, especially if we let Brandon go out first give him a 30 second head start and then he can be done first and watch everyone else finish. With a full field of 12, 10 seconds apart and a 30 second head start for Brandon, that's over 17 minutes but we can all qualify at once and all get two laps in and it'll actually be close to our 2 x 8 minute sessions.

Again, this is basically what my plan will accomplish. We will qualify as one group, everyone will have time for an outlap plus 2 hot laps. I'll be watching the timing monitor and if anyone starts a third hot lap I'll ask them to abandon it in the interest of time/fairness. I'll be in the timing monitor anyway and it's easy to see who's on what lap. Qualifying isn't going to be a huge deal here, once we hit the straight on the first lap everything will start getting shuffled anyway.

Curious who is running what race today. I'm home with sick kids and can make either. So if the early show needs racers. Post up please. Otherwise I plan to be there this evening/night.

^ I'm running the Euro friendly race. (The one Brandon forgets about!) Qualifying starts at 9pm GMT.

I'll do my best to post attendance numbers on here at 8:45 or so.

Crap, sorry, and fixed. This season has quickly grown to more than I can keep track of. :nervous:

Both plans amount to the same thing really as you said, but I don't agree with this statement. If you get stuck behind someone in Sector 1 and two guys break away up front and work together it matters *big* time.

Basically with this car you can't pass on the straight alone. You get a run and pull out and then just sit there next to the other car. If you have a huge run and pull out of line to pass and the guy you are passing is in the draft of a car ahead your run for the pass ends very quickly.

Very tricky strategy and anxious to see how it plays out. It's either going to be exciting or frustrating or more likely both.

I can't run the evening race, but would love to jump in the early slot if there is room. I'll hop in the lounge towards the end of practice before quali and check on the numbers.

Last night when I had a draft I was flying by people down the straight, 10-15mph faster than the car I was drafting, so it's possible (or maybe they were off the pace). Anywho, I know on lap 1 I'll be caught up trying to avoid an incident in turns 2 and 3 so I'll be at the back no matter what. 👍

I think if you are two cars alone that's probably true... the drafting car will get up to speed much faster. But say you are 5 in a row and you are the 4th car. Pull out of the draft line with a run and you'll not go very far. But if the cars in front put you in the draft then you are set of course.

Other issue is we hit the limiter so if you have a great run and hit the limit mid pass there is not more acceleration. Unique situation for this car/track for sure and will be interesting. Not complaining at all... almost has a flavor of half a lap at Daytona Oval jostling for draft and half a lap of a road course.

Really need to find a drafting partner. :sly:

Just a quick heads up to anyone who hasn't updated to 2.03 that it is a big update (240MB+). My PS3 said 40 minutes and I'm on 20Mb optical! (It lied like a cheap watch - Actually took about 10 minutes to download and install)

Just to report my intention of attending the euro-race to night.. :)

And a small reminder to race-admins or a wacant steward, to go in and reset the 'room settings' for the ORCA_Champ-lounge... It is not accessible at the moment.

^ Thanks Mikael, RDA can fix that before the GMT race.

Here's hoping for a good night of racing, as my normal day has been a total wreck.

I've fixed the room and it is open for free practise. come on down!

....for free practise.

That one just makes my brain hurt. I can deal with tossing an extra "u" in here and there (colour) but changing a "c" to an "s" is just wrong and would get me a scolding from my English teacher. What do you call those frozen cubes you put in your drink? Ise?

Oh, I forgot, you guys also drink everything warm. :yuck: Nevermind.

We put ice in our drinks. But it doesn't rhyme with practise!

we have 6 drivers so far. anyone else about?

Great race everyone. That was fun.

I don't know how I got the poll in qualifying. Had an extremely lucky lap. Didn't miss one brake point. On my first qualifying lap, I also had a nice time, but I messed up at the last corner and out it in the sand with me.

At the start of the race, WRP crashed and left me with the lead.

I did have three major offs, one of them involved me sliding past the chicane at the start. I hope that doesn't result in a penalty. I didn't gain any time, I think. My tires were useless for the next corner.

Then, during the pits, I lost my ten second lead and it was down to two seconds. I'm in the process of firing my pit crew.

Got it back to three; couldn't gain anymore until lap eight, where I think I had a five second lead. Then I saw two cars line up behind me for the final push and I thought I'm dead. They dropped that five second lead so fast, I would love to know what lap times they were running. I got lucky on my last lap and put a solid lap together. One more lap and I would have been a sitting duck.
