This got me thinking. Since we can't have the V8s in the game, a Nascar road and city course series would be awesome. Maybe a one-time Spec event. Three tracks. Adding a HP limit could make them very manageable.

It's amazing how well this stock car can handle the turns. For a good example, I raced a guy in an RMZR1 and lost to a tuned stock car.

A few months ago someone posted a tune for Nascar on Spa and I took it out for a test drive. It was crap so I tuned it myself and with some tweaking it was a really enjoyable ride. 4 or 5 seconds faster than a GT500 car on RS tires on Spa. Problem was tire wear, it was brutal, you bascially got 3 laps before they were down below half. If we took tire wear off it would be a lot more enjoyable and it is that time of year...:)

Stock, no tuning with a lower HP limit, even 502, like restrictor plate racing would be fun!

I'll be in the Champ lounge in about 30 minutes for some whatever racing. You're welcome to hop in whenever you want, come and go as you please.

Next time you sign in to the Champ Lounge Brandon can you send me an FR? I got one from the Spec Lounge and kept checking there to see if anyone was there but it was empty all night...now I know why...lol..:grumpy:

^ How about you send a request and I'll accept it next time I get on? You should be able to log into it and accept your own request. :sly:

So what are your guys thoughts on the rotating car selection racing I've been talking about? For various reasons I need a break from the weekly scheduled points racing format. That's not to say we won't do it again in the future, but this season was quite a handful and to prevent myself from getting burnt out I just need to take a little break and try something different. But I want to keep Team ORCA racing together, hopefully in new and exciting ways.

So far the outline of my plan is relatively simple. To start with we could plan on getting together at our normal times for some fun spot racing using new/different cars. I'll probably recruit some hosts to choose one of the time slots and regularly host it so any one of us would really only have to commit to one night for now. If I can get 6 other hosts, then we could potentially have an "official" lounge open every night. But a host isn't needed all the time, anybody would be able to open the lounge and make a post letting others know it's open so they can join. They could race the pre-selected cars for that week (at whatever tracks they want) or we could also allow karts, shuffle racing and recommended garage racing at any time since those are easy to setup and everyone has access to the vehicles (presuming everyone has at least 1 kart).

Each month I/we would come up with a schedule for the selected cars. I could follow a simple theme such as:
Week 1: Vintage Cars
Week 2: Street Cars
Week 3: Race Cars
Week 4: Any of the previous selected cars for that month
(karts, shuffle and recommended garage would be allowed at any time to ensure variety).
Those are very loose themes that allow a very wide variety of possible cars but they give us a general direction to stick with. Whenever we get together that week at our normal times, we would all race the selected car at random tracks for 5 or 10 lap races. By laying out the whole month in advance it would give people time to track down the cars and get them prepped.

You could look at it this way, we're going to race a whole bunch of different cars for a 1 week mini-series (without points). Instead of racing 1 car multiple times a week for 6 weeks and keeping track of points, we'll race 1 car multiple times a week for 1 week without keeping points. Basically like our practice sessions I guess, but with more racing (pick a track, practice for 10 or 15 minutes, race; pick a new track, practice for 10 or 15 minutes, race).

Maybe it will lead us to our next points series car, maybe it will lead to a whole new way of racing together online, there are lots of possibilities. But this, I think, is a simple way for all of us to keep racing together for now without a lot of demands on anybody. It's a basic enough foundation that we could build from it based on how we end up using it. We could do this all in the ORCA_Champ lounge since everyone has access and could open it up to the public so we could boost our numbers and have more racing at more times. We could have an Aussie host that runs the room at Aussie times, a UK host that runs at UK times, etc.

Thoughts? Does any of that make sense or sound like a feasible plan? I'm open to suggestions about how to tweak/modify/improve it so let me hear what you guys wanna do. 👍 Or is there no interest if we don't have some kind of points system?

I think this sounds great. I really like the idea of having the weekly themes as you do. I also really like the idea of track and lap count being determined by the drivers for any given night. Additionally, I believe the option for us to run any other misc stuff like karts, shuffle, etc., will keep things fresh. As into some of the vintage cars as I have been the past couple of weeks, I like the idea of having them only once (or twice if selected for week 4), to keep things fresh and desirable.

My only suggestion would be to maybe make week 4 a little more structured. In the previous 3 weeks we would have run 3 different cars on all sorts of different tracks. I think for week 4 we pick one of those 3 and then choose 2 or 3 tracks and set it up a bit like a tournament a couple nights a week (I know it is a take off on VCRC, but it seems to work). This would allow for 3 weeks of lots of random fun racing, but that one week a month of a little more series/organized type format without all the headaches.

As much of a tuner that I am not, I would still like to run some 450PP or other decided class from time to time with this group as well (just to see a field of different cars and see if I can't learn how to tune). I know the vast majority of the direction of ORCA is spec, I think breaking out once in a while is healthy. With that thought, I am still an advocate for a special RM Cappy week to remember where this group came from.

As our fearless leader, you have brought nothing but fun and exciting racing to us all. I am still all in.

Well, I think me and you are about the only ones who feel that way. Maybe we just form a 2 man club and do heads up racing.

I just wanted to say it was a pleasure racing with you guys this season. TrackBound7, who is my best friend for 15 years or so, introduced me to the group and always had nothing but good things to say about the group and the drivers, and my experience this season was perfectly in line with what he told me about the group. Brandon and company do a fantastic job running everything. There are so many talented drivers in this group, but without the elitist attitudes that often come with it. I'm looking forward to running with you all again in the future. I'm not sure if it's in the plans at this point, but I'm really hoping you guys run another Capp series, since I didn't get a chance to run that series due to my old wheel preventing me from shifting gears manually. Thanks again, and congratulations to Johnny and carracer on the championship.

I'd like to see it come back for another season in the future.

These ideas swimming in your head Brandon, are indeed exciting.

I for one, enjoy the pp format (as a fair chunk of my cars have the fat trimmed and wouldn't qualify for spec racing), also manufacturer themed nights would be great too.

Whatever is agreed to, I'll do my best to stick around (may have to change my night as the 5am wake-ups are killing me  )

I'm in for whatever as long it has a power going to the rear wheels. ;)

A lot of this sounds good to me, specifically choosing different cars each week and having some type of rotation. What really doesn't interest me is the
(pick a track, practice for 10 or 15 minutes, race; pick a new track, practice for 10 or 15 minutes, race)
format. I prefer more of a race, pick a new track, race type of format. (I guess I get bored easily.)
A format I like is pp racing were you add or subtract pp (25 ish) every race. This could be done with or without tuning.

I'm up for longer warm up sessions or short ones, but I prefer to have a lap or two to get accustomed to the car/track/tire combination so I don't have to figure it out in the race and I think that helps keep incidents to a minimum. On harder tires like Sports Softs or harder, you get enough tire life to run many more laps than Racing tires so longer races like 7-10 laps at Deep Forest, 15 laps at Tsukuba, 5-7 laps at Monza etc. will work with perhaps 5-7 minutes in between for at least warm up, even if we aren't going with qualifying. We don't need 15 minutes between races but 2 or 3 is a bit short as well.

There are a million ideas but something else that could work is having back to back races on each track. I've seen this in online lobbies and it works well. For us, and this is just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, you might do 6-8 minutes qualifying, a short race of less than 10 minutes like 8 laps at Tsukuba, a quick break of a minute or two, then a longer, say 15 minute or 15 lap race at Tsukuba in reverse grid order. With a formula like that you have 6-8 minutes warm up/qualifying and nearly 20+ minutes of racing. Or you could do Q, 5 laps, short break, 10 laps to keep it quicker and turning over tracks more often.

Two tracks per hour, time to make up for mistakes, a way to capitalize on pole positions and a chance for those that made a mistake in the first race to redeem themselves in the second. 45 minutes or so racing per hour should be enough to keep anyone from getting bored but also allow time for breaks and beer:cheers:

Another thing I would like to see is a decent custom track or two that we fit into our regular rotation, perhaps using it once a week. Doesn't have to be anything long or complicated, something relatively easy to learn without any wonky overly or crazy crest of the hill type corners. Putting it on the ORCA profile if such a thing is possible would make it available for everyone to download and practice on. When it comes to karts most of the full size tracks aren't suited to karts and the Kart Space while fun and challenging doesn't make for very good racing, so a couple of good custom kart tracks would work well too.

I'm sure between us we can come up with dozens of great ideas but of course we can't do them all. My preference would be to discuss this for a couple of days, then let Brandon get the ball rolling by choosing a car for later this week or next week and let's start racing. Even the recommended garage will work for a short while. I think if we're together and racing, good ideas and feedback will come of that, new themes will pop up etc and we can put it together as we go, flesh out the details etc. rather than trying to come up with the perfect theme before we even start racing.

This pretty much sums up my position right now. I'm just trying to think of a way we can take a break from the points racing but still race together, try new things and see where we end up.

We all have slightly different desires that we want out of this but there is some common ground. For now I want to capitalize on that common ground and see what comes of it. Start simple, grow from there. Not quite re-inventing the wheel, more like trying to discover a better wheel. I feel like we have outgrown our current system, and while it provided an interesting points race at the end it caused an awful lot of headaches on the way. So at the very least I need to figure out a new structure, branching out for awhile will give me a chance to experience new things and get new ideas as well as re-kindle my excitement.

Maybe each person involved list a car they want to race and we spec race it to their specs. Tuned or Stock.

Some may work mixed. Some may require one make races.

My first Choice is. Mitsubishi vs Subaru Challenge. There are a few car options here. The best I've seen is Standard Touring Cars. Imprezza vs FTO. Both race cars and look matched.

If we do two cars. We can race one race and switch to other car and reverse grid for next. Same track.

I like those ideas, especially switching cars for the second race. I like that particular car pairing too, I think I have 2 of each variety. :)

I think this Sunday should be some Daytona running of NASCARs. Like NASCAR or not, it is a popular event this weekend. Like NASCAR or not, drafting and running wide open is a lot of fun in this game.

In terms of cars that I would like to race
One of the 80s or early 90s CR-X's (I know, no power to the rear, once in a while that is fun though too), the 67 Lambo Miura, 86 MR-2, 70/73 GTR, Honda S800, some of RTF's cars, some of...the list keeps going, but that is a start for me.

Hello folks,

I would like to congratulate both Yuri/JP and Carracer on the championship. Great pace and consistency is the way to the win with a group of this proficiency. It was a lot of fun to race with you both, and to prevail amongst a group like this is an accomplishment.

In addition, I must thank all of you for the racing. There is a lot of talent demonstrated here, and the level of sportsmanship and respect for your fellow drivers is really a step above. I think the whole lot of you should be congratulated for that. I don't happen upon much time to play, but I am glad that the time I've had I've been able to spend with you lot.

Lastly, it is most important that I thank Brandon and the rest of you folk who have made the effort to operate this series. Thank you for your time, and your acquaintance. It has been great to be a part of this drive with some great people.

^ Thanks Marcus, the kind words mean a lot. You are always welcome to race with us at any time, even if it's just for fun.

I like the ideas being thrown around and I should be able to make weekly races. Im thinking we race Deloriens and the first one to 88mph wins a mr. fusion.

I like this idea too. Last year, in the Fun Racers group, we did a team touring car event, using Integras, FTOs, Imprezas and Altezza Touring Cars. It worked really well as, like in our Alfa series, we had shared practice sessions and helped each other out with setups, etc. So this could work in either guise, as an individual or team event.

Only downside is that the FTO is not tradable.
