Described as a true sequel to James Cameron's film, the story of Aliens: Colonial Marines takes place after the events of the third film, Aliens. At PAX East 2012, Gearbox Software's Community Manager confirmed that the game is considered an official part of the Alien franchise's canon by 20th Century Fox.

Aliens: Colonial Marines features a campaign with dynamic drop-in/drop-out cooperative multiplayer for up to 4 players online or 2 players locally via split screen. Competitive multiplayer has been confirmed, and Gearbox has only shown Aliens vs Marines team deathmatch 6 v 6 gameplay. Gearbox has said that there are multiple "objective based modes" as well that have not been announced yet.

The $99 Aliens: Colonial Marines Collector's Edition box itself is something of a collectible, taking the shape of a Xenomorph hive. The most prominent physical good inside that box is a resin statue of the same type of powerloader seen in James Cameron's Aliens. Also inside is a "USCM Dossier" that includes a mission briefing, a USS Sephora schematic, a recruitment card, an LV-426 recon photo, a USCM iron-on badge, and a USCM graduation certificate.

The highlight of the digital content side of the collector's edition is probably the four playable movie characters: Private Hudson, Corporal Hicks, Private Drake, and Sergeant Apone. You'll also get two exclusive multiplayer weapons (sonic electronic ball breakers and phase plasma rifle), the exclusive USCM Academy Firing Range game level, Ripley's flamethrower, and "additional Marines character customization options."

GameStop pre-orders receive a sample of the above content in a competitive multiplayer-focused bonus. Put down money on the game early with the retailer and you'll receive the four movie characters, Ripley's flamethrower, and those mysterious "additional Marines character customization options."

the third film, Aliens.

If this is a quote from a press release, I really hope they don't consider Prometheus to now be the first film just because it's a prequel...

I'm looking forward to this, I know it's Sega and they tend to screw with the devs' work but you never know. I love the first two films (Alien and Aliens, that is) and I hate that Alien vs. Predator 2 was the last properly decent Alien game, so I've got hope. Also Borderlands is one of my favourite games of this generation so with any luck Gearbox will have been allowed to just make a good game, unlike Obsidian were with Alpha Protocol.

I think I might watch Aliens tonight actually.

If this game is closely based on Aliens movie than it's seriously sucks. I don't really want to play what i saw in movie.

What's the point?

No but it has ideas and reference from the movies. Why would you want too different? Then it isn't right. I'm mega excited about this!

It's set seventeen weeks after Aliens - same planet, that's all. A full Colonial Marines force has been sent in response to The Sulaco's distress call.

Dev Diary 1

It follows on, postulating what might have happened, so not the same as the film though as has been said, this is trying to stay as true to the films as possible.

Surprised there wasn't already a thread about this one sooner :)

I just hope that the game is much better made than the avp game recently :)

GT5 will be shelved when this hits the shops i think im the only geezer in the world that still plays Alien vs Predator religiously.:bowdown:

Prey to god its not a letdown like Resi 6 waited with baited breath for that review only to be disappointed.:nervous:

In all fairness, reviews tend to be very subjective :sly: so I ignore them and find out for myself if the game is any good.

Too many games I've enjoyed have had bad reviews for me to trust the reviewers anymore.
