I mean, sure,it's fun. For the first two minutes.
I just want a dealership like the Premium one,but with Standard cars SO BAD!

I personally don't see all the fuss. I mean sure, it can take a while to find the lat couple. of cars you're missing, but that's all the point. Where's the fun in going to the dealership and buying all the cars like that. (Clicks finger)
I personally enjoy the UCD, i remember the first time i found the 1970 GT-R Skyline. I couldn't believe it.

I am now collecting all the cars too, I've just started and I've got about 200 standards.

Chill out and enjoy what you have, you can bitch all you want when the series dies off.

No you're not, it's an awful idea that bears no resemblance to real life.

How does it not resemble real life?
You can't go and buy a 1969 Isuzu Bellet Gtr everyday can you?

But without it, then there wouldn't be much fun in the whole "used car" concept.

I'll agree it doesn't have any resemblance to real life. But isn't that sorta the point of it still being a video game in the end?

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather just have a big standard car dealership where you could buy any of them at any time.

But the fact that the UCD is implemented in this way adds a whole new aspect of collecting and trading to the game.

Not really my thing to collect all the cars if I'm honest. But for those who are into that, it actually gives some dimension to the whole process, even if most people would rather just buy the cars from one big dealer.

Why not have a used car section under each dealer and have them cycle?

I find it quite 'quirky' (if that's the right word), having a dealership which cycles through 6/800 cars every day. The interesting part of it being that you don't know what could possibly show up.

It's also quite satisfying, waiting for a not inconsiderable amount of time for a car, then looking in the UCD after a victorious race and it's sitting waiting for you. :)

Then what would you do for car companies like Chaparral? Just occasionally have a car pop up in their dealer or something? Because with your system, all the cheap Nissans would become incredibly rare while it would be very easy to rack up Pescarolos and Veyrons.

I never cared about rare cars thats why it would work for me.

Your system is flawed in that the actual "rare" cars would become incredibly easy to acquire compared to average 80's Japanese economy cars. And if you implemented a system to keep "rare" cars rare, then it would be exactly like the current system only it would take far longer to browse through your options.

You may not be a fan of rare cars but many people are. And if you don't like rare cars then what's wrong with the idea of just having a permanent Standard dealer for all companies?

The current UCD may suck but at least it gives a new dimension to the game and adds playability.

Didnt say I wasnt a fan just said I didn't care.

But a permanent used car dealer would be a good idea.

Maybe not but there are thousands of cars you could buy any day, you aren't limited to 30 at any one time. Sure keep truly rare cars harder to acquire but most of them should be available any time. I really don't see what is fun about cycling the UCD for a car to come up.

In the real world, you have more new car dealerships selling second hand recent trade ins, usually the same make. You also have specialist usedcar sales outlets, and some will sell very expensice cars - and they will be available for some time.

I would like NCD having some sales of the same make. And I'd like a couple of other outlets, one selling cars with a fairly high turnover of stock (changing colours, mileage etc). And a classic car dealer, selling old, rare, classic and racing cars. at a slower turnover of stock - giving a little chance to raise the money if there happened to be a car we always wanted.

Well, this is the first ucd in the gt series as far as I'm aware anyway because I only got to play gt 3 and 4. So its not that bad since this is the first one

There was one in GT4.

It's dumb indeed. I got tired of it quickly in GT4, and even more so this time around. An awful idea.

I just don't care for it. I did not miss it all when it wasn't in GT3 and that was the best GT game in terms of fun IMO. So I don't agree with the comments in here saying the game is less fun if you have access to all of the cars at the start.

There's a UCD system in all of them except for GT3.

Since this nice forum has a Marketplace, there is no such thing as a rare car or even the need to visit the UCD for me.

Rare car color...that is another story.

The UCD makes some sort of sense whilst your working your through the game, but by the time your A-spec lvl 40 and B-spec lvl 40 the game itself holds no more secrets, you will have seen pretty much everything.
Its at this point when all is left is trying new cars out and setting up races you havent done before with friends online that the UCD justs gets in the way, by lvl A40 B40, surely they should let you buy any car in the game at any time.

I hate the UCD

I have spent more hours / days / weeks grinding that stupid thing than I'd ever want to admit to myself

The best cars in the game are in there, and they make you a slave to it, just to get what you want

One of my (few) major gripes with the game

I only bought GT3 because I couldn't drift properly in GT4 lol I even have a vid on youtube how much I failed.

It was much easier to drift in GT3 than GT4.f

Am I the only one who dislikes the UCD?

No. All sensible players who aren't blinded by unconditional fanboy adoration realise that it is a sloppy, cumbersome, inconvenient mess.

The only folks that would support it are folks incapable of unbiased judgment or acknowledging flaws in the game. If part of owning the game meant that Polyphony would send someone to your door to leave a flaming bag of dog crap, some folks would find a way of defending that as a good thing. "Hey, that is personal owner recognition that you won't find from any other developers."

The previous GT games had good dealerships to buy a used car from the manufacturer. If they are special models I see the UCD Serves its purpose. It would be sensible to make dealerships with all the basic used cars available to choose, then group the racing cars according to class.
As for the comment of buying a specific used classic in real life, its possible.
The UCD should have been an open dealership from the jump because it still required you to reach a certain level before you could buy it and before(forgive the run-on sentence) the Seasonals we were pretty much done if we didn't have enough credits to get that rare ride.

Is funny, I guess since PD knew GT5 was incomplete, the UCD was created as a distraction(just my theory whether accurate or inaccurate).

Not only is it a bad idea you end up with a car that has high mileage. Now you need to go into the slow loading GT Auto to do an engine rebuild and chassis restoration. I bought an SLR Mclaren '03 for a friend last night and I think it cost around $250,000 to $400,000. It had 26,000 miles on it so I did an engine rebuild and chassis restoration that cost over $400,000. I could have used a restoration ticket but in GT5 you need to be an expert driver and spend hours trying to beat 5 Seasonal races. All of this takes away time from racing with my friends online. Oh wait! Now I must go delete items because I have maxed them out once again.

The maintenance and navigation in this game is cumbersome and overly time consuming. I want more racing and less piddling around the menus.

I give up, you're all a bunch of whiners who don't know you've got something good.

In your opinion maybe.

Dont get angry because our opinion differs from yours.

Agreed.

We post because we want other people to know our opinions. That's what forums are for :)

I think if it was possible to select multiple cars within the UCD and purchase them all at the same time it would be alot better. Perhaps the GT auto could be linked so that you do a complete rebuild of the engine and chassis as an option at the same time.

This would probably never happen but a guy can dream........

The sea of duplicates and the low cycle rate is anything buy enjoyable. I don't know how something so tedious and time-consuming can ever be seen as good.

I also dislike it, a few weeks ago I started a new game of GT5 on a different account with the purpose of collecting all the cars once again. A few standards I can't get due to them being OCD only, fair enough but that only leaves me 12 to get and they are hundreds of days away. Been able to get some off tickets I won, very frustrating however. For me the game would be much more enjoyable (buying car wise anyway) if you could have one big dealership, and just buy the cars you want standard or premium without having to cycle the UCD. It's not real life, it's a game and should not be this silly.

I have lost literally tens of millions in prize money because there is nothing left to buy I want, complete waste as is capping the credit amount & even the A-Spec rank you can attain.
