Am I the only one who dislikes the UCD?

Lighten up, for fracks sake.

Why is it that people often ask someone to lighten up if they can't seem to win on arguments or being criticized for what they wrote?

You however mistakingly assume I'm in a bad mood which I ain't (and even if I were, it's not for you to decide I have to lighten up), I'm not annoyingly happy in the way I choose to express myself though (maybe that's your definition of being depressed?).

I like the UCD. And, you can't start all your maturity nonsense, but my opinion and my happiness won't change. Just to summarize the entirety of my answer:

I wasn't referring to your happiness, I just mentioned my posting style not being annoyingly happy, although your replies do have a strong nanananana-flavor, or is that bananananana?

👍

Or even banananana for short. :sly:

I just dislike how there are 4 of every year of like Subaru Impreza

We already said that wasn't the problem, it was you trying to tell us what the UCD is and how it 'does it pretty well'. You failed to do so then went all "well I like it, bananas to those that don't" on us.

I like bananas

The Used Car Dealer is ESSENTIAL to any Gran Turismo game. It's part of the whole Gran Turismo philosophy of car ownership. Removing it would make the game lose some of its soul.

GTPSP and Prologues are a different story but they are less fun because of the lack of an UCD.

It's realistic to go buy some used cars and its really fun to search for the ones you need and that doesn't appear often.

Want a non-UCD game, there's plenty. Please keep the Used Car Dealer in Gran Turismo forever.

Even expand it. Let us buy crashed cars and cars with problems, etc...

Let us buy crashed cars and cars with problems, etc...

That would be brilliant.

Getting a car for a really cheap price, because of it's wrecked engine etc.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the idea of buying used cars be totally removed, rather vastly improved over the GT5 system and more like older games where several hundred common cars were always available.

Are you saying you WANT all the boring, standard, 150 hp cars as premiums?

Are you saying you WANT all the boring, standard, 150 hp cars as premiums?

I certainly do and it'll certainly happen as well (not all current Standards but a similar selection).
And cars needn't be boring below 150bhp, heck even below 50bhp, speed isn't the only factor for enjoyment but you'll probably won't understand.

I do understand. my father owns 2 1972 ford falcon xa falcon v8s and I've driven one.

but this is a RACING SIMULATOR.

NOT A SUNDAY DRIVE SIMULATOR.

AH yea, that's true. GT4 dealers were waaaay better.

It's not a RACING SIMULATOR. It's more of a Driving game/sim imho.

It's Gran Turismo. It's not a full simulator, it have its own particular elements... PC sims can be brilliant because of the mods and physics, but the lack of a "car dealer" for example, in most of them, make them bland and boring after some time. And slow cars are part of the fun too! :)

It's a driving sim that mainly focusses on racing which also means that you can simply drive cars around a track for the sake of enjoying driving cars around a track (which I often do if I'm not racing online).
GT always included humdrum cars from the start, that's actually one of the main things what set it apart from all other racing games before that.

Also, I didn't necessarily imply taking low-powered cars for a Sunday drive but the fun that can be had racing them against other low-powered cars, it's often far more tense than racing high speed machinery against each other.
And another thing, there's also fun to be had by other factors like handling, sound or visual aspects (the combination that is) which doesn't automatically means it needs more than 150bhp to be enjoyed, at least not by me.

Just to be clear, I like a lot of different cars for a lot of different reasons, I don't have one set of criteria which all cars included should have to follow, I want a lot of different experiences within one single game, not a huge selection basically offering the same thing with slight differences.

if it's a truly rare car, maybe. The point i keep trying to make is that hundreds of cars that appear in the ucd should be available at any time because they are common cars that are always available. Keep the race cars and rare cars rare but the the common stuff should be availalble all of the time. I don't get a rush finding a ford focus in the ucd just the same as i wouldn't if i went looking for a second hand car in real life, because they're everywhere.

+1,000,000.

Wow I go to sleep and miss alot

I don't dislike the UCD I think it was a good idea, but I do think that for GT6 it needs a revamp, even if only to freshen things up. Could be any number of things:

1. Multiple UCD's. Maybe a racing car UCD, vintage car UCD and a modern car UCD.

2. More cars, more selection.

3. A faster way to cycle the UCD.

4. A way to qualify for a limited time, wide open UCD. For example, maybe completing each ASpec level would open it up completely and allow you to purchase a limited number of cars.

There are any number of ways to juice it up and make it more exciting and I hope PD takes advantage of some.

I also dislike it, a few weeks ago I started a new game of GT5 on a different account with the purpose of collecting all the cars once again. A few standards I can't get due to them being OCD only, fair enough but that only leaves me 12 to get and they are hundreds of days away. Been able to get some off tickets I won, very frustrating however. For me the game would be much more enjoyable (buying car wise anyway) if you could have one big dealership, and just buy the cars you want standard or premium without having to cycle the UCD. It's not real life, it's a game and should not be this silly.

I have lost literally tens of millions in prize money because there is nothing left to buy I want, complete waste as is capping the credit amount & even the A-Spec rank you can attain.

Ucd; its not that bad but it does need a update/fix which I think pd never will do.

We already have 3 dealerships in this game which is two too many. Adding more won't help anything and will take even more time away from racing. It would however be an OK idea to have one giant dealership with a new, used and pristine condition cars. Your idea could fit in a situation such as this and would serve to organize the vehicles.

I still don't like the idea of buying high mileage cars. It would be OK if the dealership actually did the maintenance/restoration on the car before you bought it like a real dealership does. Another great idea is if an engine rebuild actually did restore the engine to like new condition with full horsepower. My understanding is that is does not do this which is ridiculous. In real life doesn't a rebuild usually give you more power than stock?

After owning this game for two years I absolutely hate wasting time doing monotonous "chores" instead of driving cars. My dream is to have a less complicated, easy to navigate and streamlined game.

Let's compare real life (Auto Trader) and GT5 (UCD).

AutoTrader - Totally random selection of cars, with a few common cars showing up frequently (Astras, Mondeos etc.).
UCD - Exactly the same, but with MX5s, Skylines etc.

AutoTrader - Published with a certain number of new cars every week; but still retaining 85% of last weeks cars.
UCD - Refreshes every 'day' with 6 new cars and retains 80% of the old cars.

AutoTrader - Chances of seeing a collectible/rare car are slim-to-none.
UCD - Chances of seeing a rare car - 10%. (60% from my perspective, but hey...).

The whole point of it, is that it's a Used Car catalogue, and as shown above, it does that pretty well.

Car Catalog: Cars have realistic depreciation based on their mileage, options and age taken into account, and when you purchase them their value does not change. You have choices of hundreds of models (thousands on online ones, and can look for any specific car made after 1985 at any given time, or just go get a different catalog. Your chances of getting a collectible car also go up considerably if you get a collectible car catalog).

UCD: Cars cost just as much as brand new equivalents if you're lucky (2-10 times more than they have any right to if you're not) and far, far more than they cost in real life (or even previous GT games) and have far lower mileage than is reasonable despite being used and requiring you to spend half again as much on the car to get it to appreciable condition (but not new condition, because you absolutely can not restore it to as-new, which also means PD doesn't know what an engine rebuild is); and when you buy them the game instantly whacks them price down to 1/4th of what you paid for it despite that not being remotely how depreciation works. Cars you see are assembled with no logical pattern, with the UCD simply being a lazy dumping ground for Standard models rather than organized in any meaningful way as in GT2 and GT4. You only get 30.

Realism! And for fun:

GT4: Cars are much more closely tied to mileage, and cost an acceptable amount lower than their new equivalents and tend to have a lot higher mileage. Costs to bring car up to snuff with new ones are offset by lower initial cost. Depreciation is still the weird 1/4th method, but it also goes down notably as mileage increases in addition. You have 3 different car dealerships dealing in cars of 3 eras, which is more interesting because there are indeed car dealerships (and "catalogs") in the world that do focus on certain year ranges.

I hate the UCD

I have spent more hours / days / weeks grinding that stupid thing than I'd ever want to admit to myself

Personally I like the UCD in GT5 simply because now I got pretty much all cars I want/need so I just enjoy coming back to it every time I'm in the GT Life menu and see some random cars, sometimes I actually like one or two of them and go ahead and buy and drive them, I probably wouldn't have driven a Corsa in GT5 so far without the UCD. :p

One thing that bothers me for the next GT game is that if all cars have (hopefully) the same quality it will be hard to differ which cars come from UCD and which are purchased new, I do mind that because I like to collect mileage on my favourite cars, however on standard cars mileage is pretty worthless to me because you can find them in the UCD with mileage on them anyway.

That makes no sense. A UCD with say 200 cars available at any one time would have ta similar effect but even greater. That's not a reason to like the current UCD setup.

I find it's a pain. You have to leave off racing after five races to check out the UCD with all the wasted time loading and unloading pages. Then five races later do it all over again. A set turnover period would be better.

At the moment I'm at 1550 or so cars and looking for another 2J to add to my fleet of Chaparrals and keeping an eye out for any interesting cars to tune or any I may not have.

What if they just added a refresh function? 💡

It would let you find cars a bu**er load quicker, as well as retaining the 'surprise' factor.

We can dream.

Good point about the multiple dealerships but I guess it depends on how long they take to load with PS4. If it's a second or two with no nonsense animations accompanying it, then a single menu entitled "Cars" with a series of submenus would be fine. Being able to search the dealerships in a personal way would also help along with being able to create different areas of our garage to more narrowly define car groupings beyond "Standard, Premium and Favourite". Getting rid of the silly animations that accompany any car purchase would actually be the biggest time saver possible with the garage.

Hey, GT3 had no used car dealer of any kind, for the record.

I love the UCD and I live for the UCD. I look at it like the corner dealership who only has enough space for so many cars. As soon as he gets some fresh inventory, the oldest stock has to be "sold off" at his cost to make room. The only unrealistic thing is that the most sought-after cars remain on the UCD list through a normal cycle until they drop off the end. In real life, the most desirable cars would be snatched up immediately but I am glad the game does not screw us like that. With credits so easy to come by, I am also glad that we don't have all cars available at all time to buy at any time. That would make the game done and over very quickly for many people. Also, the UCD rotation cycle tends to push me to play the game more, so that I can see more inventory.

Again, the game is meant to be all about the cars, hiding most of them away and making it a chore to acquire them makes no sense and it certainly wouldn't make the game 'done' if it was easier. Well, if you think it's more a pokemon game than a driving game maybeit would but for those that just want to drive it wouldn't.

Oh and as for you imagining that it's a street corner dealership to try and convince yourself it's realistic is pretty laughable. How many street corner dealerships do you know that gets rare multi million dollar race cars in their small inventory?
