We had emo's at my highschool and they were never any more depressed than any other teenager I knew. I also can't distinguish between emo bands and another other type of rock, punk, whatever-genre-you-wanna-call-it band until I see a video clip and the band members all have sweepy side fringes and tight jeans.

I have nothing against emos. They're no lamer than any other try hard sterotype. They'll grow out of it.

You don't have to have scars to be emo. Many people cut themselves because it releases beta-endorphins, which can often bring relaxation. A stereotype of an emo person is 'depressed' which would make them more likely to do this.

I wish people didn't stereotype 'emos' and 'goths' because obviously that casts them in a negative light. Most goths I know are very intelligent, articulate people. The problem with the term 'emo' is that it represents a much ridiculed genre of music.

Emo seems to be becoming less and less about the depression and more about the style. Though there was the resident emo in my comprehensive who acted like he was all depressed but wasn't really. He was just a weak guy who wanted to "kill chavs" except he couldn't kill a fly. So he hung out with more people who wanted to "kill chavs" but couldn't kill a fly.

I'm Danish, so I think I'm more or less supposed/expected to try to kill myself, at least once or twice...
