Do you use the GTP tag infront of your name

I use it every time I race, I carry it as a badge of honour. Anyone who doesn't use it for fear of being punted is disrespecting the GTP name, no one should be ashamed of GTP. Also, there are people out there (non GTP, casual players) who would normally punt only to survive, but when they see us they relax and have a clean race with you.

I voted no, because I'm more of a lurker on these forums rather than getting involved. Its not that I'm scared of getting involved, it's just i prefer to sit back and learn :)

No, because I can't be bothered to have multiple accounts.

Why can't they have a clan tag in GTP like COD4?

Please explain to me how a way of letting know that you somehow belong together (like a football shirt, or a livestrong bracelet, or team colors, etc. etc.) relates in any way to a sign that was used to involuntarily tag an ethnic group for extermination by an oppressing regime in the period 1933-1945, because frankly, I fail to see any relation between the two at all and I am really curious to how you could. 👎

It's not the belonging together part, but the exclusion of those who don't.
That and the words elite driving force.:ouch:

I think I made my point, I will shut up now.

Why? I certainly don't care about it the day we get private rooms or another way to restrict who you're racing with. I would find it pretty handy if my save would get corrupted or lost. Backups are always too late you know. ;) :p

there are people that are new to the GT series that use a completed game save file, then cause havok on the track because they have access to all the supercars, but can't drive them properly. your right though, it is a good idea to back-up your PS3 saves just in case they get corrupted.

So you have to create a new account. Then you have your list of 50 or so friends on your other account. I'd like to run the GTP tag, but What about my friends on my current list.
Either just re-add them, or, as I do it, I only use my GTP_ account for GT5P races, so only GTP_ accounts get added to that list, or now that the Friends Met list updates I will add one of those.

But my GTP_ friends list is only for people playing Gran Turismo. For all other gaming I use my original account.

It also prevents me from filling my main account's friend list with GTP members, that I will only play Gran Turismo with, from taking spots that real-life friends will be added to when they get a PS3.

Do you not think that's a bit over the top? I'm not disrespecting the GTP name, I don't 'fear' being punted - I got tired of it actually happening quite a lot - a lot more since I changed my ID. I am keeping my GT ID, and will be using it as soon as private rooms come along. I don't have the time to spend hours every night on GT, hence when I get the chance I want to try and ensure I get as much quality racing as possible. If running without my GT ID for the interim means I can do that then so be it.

I would change mine, if there was a way to set up a new PSN ID without losing all your game save data...

Go to Save Data Utility or Game Save Data (whatever it is called) in the Game section of your XMB (hint: go up), find the GT5P game save, hit triangle, select copy, select your new account. Done.

i answered NO, I'm just boring ole Cashwars, i also think some people wear it for the right reason but i believe there are some wearing it for the wrong reason

Also on a side note, more so recently than before i find people punting on purpose, you do me accidently, i ignore, these things happen, you do me on purpose, i get you back, no tag means no bad representation of the GTP by me

Out of curiosity, how do you wear the tag for the wrong reasons?

I think Cashwars is referring to those that wear it for some kind of "elite" status and to shun those that dont wear a tag. I think there is a bit of an issue with people treating those without tags differently to those with them.

TAG is a statement - 'I drive clean' If I see a tag behind me I know I won't get punted (at least not intentionally) If I see one in front I know he won't slam the door on me half way through an overtake (again - at least not intentionally)

If I see a full grid of tags I know I'm in for an awesome race.

Hopefully non-tagged, clean drivers will start to get this picture too.

The tag is nothing more than a "statement" that you want to announce your association with a popular forum. A few letters in front anyone's name does not guarantee clean driving, and clean driver don't need to show people they are clean by having a "tag".

This is exactly why I don't like the idea of wearing "tags" in general. No matter how pure and accommodating the initial intention was, eventually it will turn into a prejudgment device and a symbol of elitism. :indiff:

I think we already have that problem, perhaps not everyone, but definitely a lot of people here are using the tags to treat people differently. Several people admit to being more careful around drivers with tags than those without.

Personally, despite wearing a tag, I always treat every driver I meet carefully and cleanly. Innocent till proven a punter, although I dont usually punt back anyway. I prefer to beat people cleanly even if it means losing more than perhaps if I retaliate. But, point is, I try to treat everyone equally, a tag usually just confirms they are clean drivers (though not always!) but I will always try to treat non-tagged drivers the same.
This also applies to when I dont race with a tag.

Well, anyway, I agree with you that this has lead to some elitism to have crept up and grow and i personally dont like it, but it wont stop me wearing the tag online though, it just means rather than teaching non-tagged drivers to drive clean, I will also be teaching tagged drivers to treat others equally.

Although i do think the above quote is slightly true, i think also people stumble across this site, maybe from racing against GTP members, maybe directed here from untagged racers....and they are overwhelmed by the amount of information available to them, probably like others want to get a GTP tag so they feel part of the community..........and because it's hard to find and some people just have no knowledge of racing etiquette. I have multiple accounts and have witnessed tagged racers behaving so impolite towards other racers ( i know there is a reporting procedure in place). In my eyes wearing a GTP tag is not to tell everyone I'm a member of the elite racing club known as GTP, it's letting other racers know that you are attempting to race by a set of rules, which other clubs follow, thus promoting the GTP to other untagged racers who are looking for the challenge of a clean race.

I don't. I just don't feel like restarting with 0 cars for a GTP tag...
same here.

The day I came home with my PS3 and my copy of GT5;P, I didnt know about GTP_id and after completing all races offline I discover that and wasnt feeling to restart all over again :yuck:

Ah, ok then. Well we have evidence of that in this very thread - people missing Sphinx's registry thread. I have no idea how many un-registered tags are out there, but theres likely a lot.
I agree people should be racing with the tag to promote commonly agreed racing ettiquette too, but unfortunately its not possible to enforce any kind of racing standard, not until we have private rooms.

You can copy your save file over and keep all of your settings and cars.

The only thing that won't copy over are any GTTV purchases, those are tied to your account on the Sony servers.

I use the GTP_tag so that everybody on the grid, reading my GTP_Sjaak name, can trust me as a clean and fair racer.

You can overtake me without the risk that I punt you off in the next corner.:sly:

With untagged racers who's name I don't have seen before on the track,I am always extra carefull with overtaking actions.
To many times now they shoved, blocked, punted me of the track.:yuck:

I like it cause I'm representing the forum I use, not to mention representing the most Elite driving force online.

With the word Elite I have a problem.
It is a to negative word in world history to use it,especially in Europe.

You don't have to lose any progress, the PSN id is tied to your login to the PSN not your account on the PS3 itself. Even if you do create another account, as someone said, just select the Game Save Data for GT5, press green triangle, copy, then select the new account to copy over all of your game status. And realistically if you're going to race you'll need all cars anyway so you may as well just install one of the publicly available game-saves.

I for one created a new PSN account so I could change my ID (to GTP_Strop). It's not being elitist, it's carrying the GTP flag and the associated expectations of clean driving and respect for others in the race.

I just hope no-one can see the time-trials I'm recording with the F430 ... how embarassment!

Perhaps you are not being elitist with the tag, but clearly others are. Thats the point we are making, not that to have a tag is elitist, but some of those with tags are acting elitist.
