Do you use the GTP tag infront of your name

Yes i do.

And its not because i think i'm better than non-tagged players or anything like that - its supporting our community. Having a tag doesn't neccesarily make you a great racer, the same way not having a tag doesn't automatically mean you're going to get in everyone elses way and punt people off at corners.

In fact I was in a race at Fugi last night where about 9 out of the 12 racers were tagged, VFK or something like that....most definately NOT clean racers - the two skylines i was racing against doubleteamed me so i could'nt chase down third. After a lap of being bumped barged and punted i figured it wasn't worth it - roll on private rooms!

I get what you're saying about elitism, I guess whenever people belong to any sort of organisation that stands out from the crowd, as the GTP tags do along with GTRP for example and others, there will always be that element who think they are better than others, unfortunately it's a part of human nature. All we (tag or not) need to do is treat people when we race online how we would like to be treated, it's as simple as that.

but some of those with tags are acting elitist.

Then they have a lot to learn about how OLR within the GT community functions. Elitist attitudes are not tolerated in OLR. Never has, never will.

I think everyone is taking this Elite the wrong way. What I'm trying to say is Elite as to when people see our tag, we are the cleanest drivers out there and to wear this tag is a symbol to other people that those guys know whats up. Those guys with the GTP_ tags can race fast and win without touching anyone.

there are people that are new to the GT series that use a completed game save file, then cause havok on the track because they have access to all the supercars, but can't drive them properly. your right though, it is a good idea to back-up your PS3 saves just in case they get corrupted.
I agree that's a pain, but why should this be stopped from other folks who don't race like that? Not to mention, how will anyone ever be able to know that's what one of these ***** online did? I completely agree that there must be hundreds who have done it, but will there be anyway for us to prove they did it? No, from what I can see.

Instead of removing that feature, just take down the wrecker's tag. Even if they removed the game-save feature, none of us would really know if it reduced the amount of punters or not.

But what if I am just an elitist in general, and it has nothing to do with a GTP_ tag or Gran Turismo?

Lord knows I can't be elitist about my GT skills.

I use the GTP_tag so that everybody on the grid, reading my GTP_Sjaak name, can trust me as a clean and fair racer.

You can overtake me without the risk that I punt you off in the next corner.:sly:

With untagged racers who's name I don't have seen before on the track,I am always extra carefull with overtaking actions.
To many times now they shoved, blocked, punted me of the track.:yuck:

With the word Elite I have a problem.
It is a to negative word in world history to use it,especially in Europe.

👍

I started using the tag because for me, it forces me to race against others with more respect for them, to try to conduct myself with a higher standard of sportsmanship and courtesy. It helps me hold myself accountable to my racing decisions on the track.

The evidence for what this forum and website stand for is here for all to read, and it is plainly not any form of elitism or snobbery. It is for the promotion of quality. Quality in code of conduct. Quality in racing skills.

Also, I don’t feel I’m punted any more than before because of the GTP tag. Honestly, I think that most punters don’t even realize what the heck it means, they just like to punt people, that’s their style and they’re ignorant to the fact that it offends other racers, and ruins the quality of the sport.

i think that being a GTP_ racer shows that u have some sort of class,(if you wanna call it that) to racing and the other racers in the field. i find fellow GTPers to be more for the racing aspect as opposed to just a shoving match between competiters.

Elitist attitude towards GT.

I guess you're safe, ;)

Couldn't have said it better mate. 👍

+2 👍👍

I also have a problem with people who say they're extra careful around GTP tags. If anything I'm the opposite. I don't have to be as careful because I can be pretty sure they are going to give me space to do what I need to, just as I will let them through if they've beaten me into a corner.

I'm not tagged. I may set up a tagged account at some point but for the meantime I don't race enough to be bothered. I'll probably get something sorted before private rooms and official GTP competitions appear.

Voted no, only got the go-ahead this morning to join the GTP registry and then when the time came to tag up I asked myself, 'can i trust myself not to retaliate against punters that deliberately put me off the track?' The simple answer is no I don't trust myself just yet, but I am trying. Its a hell of a job keeping cool when the adrenaline is pumping ten to the dozen. Right now, I think I'll use the tag for the GTP competitions and most likely switch to using it full time when we get lobbies and we have some measure of control over who we race against... ie kick/ban known punters and general imbeciles before the race even starts.

I dunno, so many have worked so hard to make the GTP reputation what it is today and I'd be mortified if I played a part in tarnishing that reputation.

Are you the same Maffski from TDU? I would tend to think so. :dopey:

I take your word that you are a clean racer but many that DL game save files are new to the series and therefore have access to the pro events without truely earning the right to be there, and do tend to cause pile ups due to their lack of ability to control the higher powered cars.
I'm a believer in that if you buy a game, then it is the achievement of completing it yourself, as opposed to having someone else do all the work for you.

Setup my GTP tag last night. Found no real difference so far and I don't find myself trying to be extra careful around other GTP racers. I race how I race, as clean as possible but hard nonetheless.

Voted yes. I agree, I do get punted some more than when I use my regular account. But I don't get any messages from people just because I have a GTP tag. It would be amusing to hear what they would say.

I don't use GTP in front of my name, however I have just made a new account and submitted registration to sphinx.
Whether I will use the GTP tag often, i'm not so sure. I can see both side of the fence, cos I'm sitting in the middle! I don't buy the 'elitest' bit. Some of the fastest and most respectful drivers I've seen are not GTP users (tho some are!!), but its good to know that others drivers may get a preconception that GTP drivers are not punters, and they can drive close safely. Having said that, we all make mistakes, or have a door closed with nowhere to go. I'm as guilty as anyone, but I have noble intentions regardless.:)
And I'd like my driving to speak for itself as it it were. Hopefully drivers will see me with or without the GTP tag and know I'll race fair, if not quickly! Tho most will see me cos 90% of the time i get punted at the first corner and end up racing my way back through (some of) the field.:nervous:
And i see there is only two or three from New Zealand with GTP_ so far.. so gotta fly the flag aye?
See ya at Fuji 👍
(after the womens gymnastics!) :)

I think for those that don't have the GTP_ in there ID should have an easy to remember ID like ripping_silk in the above post. That way other Racers will remember your clean driving. I'm starting to remember alot of other GTP members that don't have GTP_ as part of there ID.;)

The only reason I don't have a GTP tag is because I just don't like underscores. Although, I still show GTP in my username, just so other GTPers can tell it's the same Jackington. I do think it's kinda lame that I wouldn't be able to take part in official events because I don't have the proper GTP tag. Just as long as you know I'm the one driving, that should be all that matters.

I don't have a tag yet partly cuz I haven't gotten round it and partly because I think I;m not up to par with the GTP rep, I also believe that people expect more from a tagged player than someone who isn't.

The tag started as a way to identify other GTP members when racing online. As time passes, it will be a way to compete in official GTP events.

Everything else-the "superiority complex", the idea that the "clan" all shares the same mentality, the idea that tagged drivers are different drivers around non-tagged racers, blah blah blah-this is all personal emotional BS that some of you as individuals have taken into the racing and on these forums.

NO ONE speaks for me, and neither does my GTP tag. I use it so others can ID me and we can talk about the racing, here at GT Planet.

Everything else regarding this is just pure garbage and related only to the particular individuals you meet here or online. Many of you I've never raced against and have no familiarity with, but at least if you have GTP in front of your name, I can find you here.

Honestly, it's not anywhere near as lame as someone refusing to have a GTP_tag on the grounds that they dislike an underscore.

I dont use the Tag, to be honest i am waiting for the full game, at the mo i am just playing with the d pad, i have been playing since GT1, all the way thru, i loved playing GT4 online via the "kia Xlink" servers, when the full game comes out i will start wearing a GTP tag, to be honest i am looking forward to the very powerful, LM race cars, like the Audi R8 and the Toyota GT1 era cars, i find great pleasure not just competing and racing these but trying to tame them, i love just taking shavings of laptimes, favorite track of all time must be deep forest, the way with a wheel you can feel the tires losing mechanical grip is awesome, so until GT5 comes out i am just d pading it,
i have been with the game for a lot of years now and wish they would bring back one track from the past, "red rock west" i think it was called in GT2

ROFL, you must be kidding, that is just wierd. Is there any other punctuation marks you're prejudiced against?

I hope you like ampersands, theyre my favourite punctuation of all. :D

Touché. :ouch:

I've always had this thing against the comma. Sitting in my sentences like it owns the place, pah.

Hello Sphinx,

Maybe, i used to play for hours on Kia Xlink, awesome system, private rooms, i loved it, i had some great races around the 'ring in astra touring cars, and i loved being beaten fairly ,
i met a nice bunch from holland , and many time we would have a massive race session.

hours and hours.

i remember the good old days where you could find 5 other chaps and race cleanly for days
on various tracks and cars
