As Interior view will not be in all cars, would you like to have a bonnet view?

Would you like to see a proper hood cam, just in front of the windscreen?

I wouldn't be too concerned about there being no interior (cockpit) view. I mean, it's so "realistic" Kaz, Joey Logano, Sebastian Loeb etc don't even use it, and this is at tradeshow's no less, where you think they would try to show of the "amazing" interior view.

Interior view is faux realism at it's finest, don't lose sleep over it.

The whole game is faux realism to be honest, whether cockpit view or another view is perceived to be more realistic or not is frankly irrelevant as it mainly is a question of preference, to me cockpit view "feels" the more realistic option but based on highly subjective personal preference stemming from my own experience when playing Prologue which let me experience it for the first time in the context of GT and from the first second I was hooked and it didn't even enter my mind I would have to go back to another view in the full game, but there you go.

About Kaz using bumper cam himself in that trade show, well first of all, I saw various footage of him playing GT5 himself using various viewpoints but mostly the footage I saw has been him playing in cockpit view.

Secondly this was obviously planned from the start and it could be Joey Logano prefers this view and in the spirit of making it seem fair and equal Kaz might have decided to use it purely for this reason.

Thirdly, and perhaps more cynical, with the constant debate about cockpit view he may have chosen to use bumper cam himself purely because it would convince others he prefers it himself so people start to suggest it's irrelevant anyway and convince some to say they shouldn't worry.

Lastly and perhaps most importantly, Kaz himself included this feature in GT ( and put quite an effort into the cockpits which are included ) and let the gamers experience this feature, and even when he himself doesn't rank it as his favourite viewpoint, to me and many others it is.

+1 👍 thats my preferred view in driving games anyway

i really can't handle seeing the cars steering wheel when i'm using one myself

it'd be great to have the option to turn it off, like in GTL, GTR2 and rFactor

+2

I will hope against hope for a windscreen/dashboard view in GT5!

looks like this is going to be a 200-300 car game for most people, who is going to bother to get over 950 cars? 800 of which wont have interior view.

Once you own all the cars with Interior view why would you buy the others?? it's just a simple question...??

personally, i will probably buy all 'Premium' cars 1st, then buy selected 'standard' cars that i like; Pescarolo's and other Lmp1's for example...

i havent even drove more than 150 cars in GT4, (probably because i wasnt into it as much as i will GT5) but yeah, i really cant see how people can drive with the cockpit view, i tried drifting from inside the Mazda RX-7 in prologue, it was almost impossible for me, and i tried with alot of the cars i drift in that game, none of them feel right, bonnet/roof cam feels better for me, it gives me a better sense of the whole car (if that statement really makes any sense), maybe with head tracking the cockpit cam would be better (i already had a playstation eye before i heard about GT5, so i'll try with that) but, like i said before, i honestly could care less if the game had cockpits or not

No. I dont want a Bonnet view too be honest it's a waste of time to me. It'll either be Interior or Bumper Cam. I've never used Bonnet cam it's weird and doesnt feel Gran Turismo to me when using that view.... Thats just me at least lol

I'll use the view if I have to. I'll try my hardest to steer clear of cars that don't have a cockpit view but if it doesn't work out I guess it's hood view.

Actually it was 20% and nothing.

I see it more like 100% with incredible detail, even if there are less cars than in the previous game, similar to GT2 -> GT3, but this time let's add like 400% plus cars, even if they don't have interiors and are less detailed, for the people that like to drive cars from almost every class and ages. But I guess it's just me .

I really, really want a bonnet view. When I'm driving my favorite TVR's around I like being able to look down that loooong bonnet and check out all the vents and stuff. (On the speed 12 and Sagaris it's like looking into the mouth of hell)

When stated earlier that I think Kaz has an all or nothing mentality, when I referred to the lack of many premium cars, I meant that if he can't make it the best, then he will simply not do it. So he couldn't have the best interiors for 800 GT4 cars, so he didn't even attempt half-assed ones. lol

making half-assed standard interiors would display inconsistency. Besides, 200 cars is still an incredibly large amount, especially considering how meticulously detailed they are. Keep in mind Forza 3 only has 400 cars, which is why they could do interiors for all of them (though tbh the Forza interiors are pretty bland; they didnt even have shift animations at launch).

There is no way PD could have done an interior for all 1000 cars.

Is this thread is proof that PD have no awareness of fans' requests? Or did Kaz vote "no" 16 times on duplicate accounts?

theres 1 thing i dont understand

why havnt they just made a "standard"-interior and put that inside all standard cars so that they all look exacly alike inside... basicly simple interior only difference could be the logo on the wheel or something..

:< i are dissapoint!

Bonnet view is my favourite as it gives you clear vision and perspective as to where your car physically sits on the road (or for some.... off it) and a little bit more sense of speed.

What I found strange in prologue was that some cars had a nice bonnet view and others had this bizarre top down looking perspective like on the Corvette, way too wack feeling to drive like that. I see that in the final version you can adjust cockpit view angle so maybe the bonnet view will alaso have an adjustable angle?

I don't see why they don't just put the camera inside the car, and apply their ghostcar effect.
Hell, I think the rest of the cockpit views might benefit from having that option as well.

I'm generally a bumpercam guy, but I guess a hoodview is a good option. GT4 had one of those, right?

This is 100% the reason. Why else would cars in prologue have interiors then become standards in GT5 and loose their interior views. They are sitting on Kaz's hard drive in the folder "Maybe Next Time".

I'm either a cockpit or bumper cam driver myself, but I always love racing games that have an awesome hood (bonnet) view. My guess it has something to do with damage. Probably shows flaws when its viewed that close up.

who votes "no" to this kind of thing?

👍 I'm with you

My opinion on all this is: If you are after realism in it's absolute sense, then you need a steering wheel and a cockpit of some sort. If you have that then bumper cam in my opinion is the best view because you can use your physical cockpit that you have infront of you as your guide to gauge the physical dimensions of your car, followed closely by bonnet view. Cockpit view is the worste for "realism" as you can see 2 steering wheels and 2 sets of hands which aren't your own and aren't always in sync.

If you don't have a wheel then you are using a controller to play a simulation driving game, in which case you have no grounds to argue realism in the first place!

And the only reason Forza 3 has all 400 cars with interiors is because Turn 10 outsourced the modeling to graphic designers not specifically working for Turn 10. GT5 has all cars modeled in house by the PD team. And to a MUCH higher level of detail.

Son, the point is that it's about quality not quantity. Forza has a better selection of 400 cars than 200 GT5 premiums. not comparing cockpits.

That is your opinion. A better comparision would be comparing how the cars drive (GT5 will drive better more likely).

My ideal view is 3 screens interior view zoomed in far enough that the side mirror is visible on my side screen. Failing that, interior view with a slightly skewed FOV (get a headache if the FOV is too close without the side screens). Failing that, bonnet view with the visible bonnet. ;)

As it is, I wont be using the standard cars at all. If they had a bonnet view, I'd drive them a bit but stick to premiums if given the option.

With the 200 premiums and average track list, I'm wondering whether its even worth buying a PS3 for GT5 and might just spend the money on a couple of new PC monitors and a better video card to play PC sims in a slightly more hardcore fashion. ;) GT5 will need some great physics and force feedback for me to dish out $500AUD to play it.

The base of the windshield view is my favorite. It gives you the feeling of being in the car without restricting your vision. The cockpit view is very weird with your virtual head perfectly stationary and staring straight ahead at all times, and the windshield pillar blocking your view of the upcoming corner.

The roof cam is just bizarre. With GT4 I used the front bumper cam, so I was floating out in midair.

T10 could have got same quality models as PD does from outsourcing but of course they were in hurry and 360 can not run so detailed models anyways. I mean that there is a lot modelling talent outside PD. Question comes to price in the end if they have wanted more premium models faster.

Since i've know the standard cars will not have an interior view i was hoping that there will be a hood cam. I'm really disapointed that there's no hood view. The cam from the roof is to high and it's imposible to drive.
I hope wi will have some updates.
Please Yamauchi ;)

I'll be using the bumper cam for all cars, premium or not.

I find the in-car view looks ridiculous for the same reason I found the in-car view ridiculous in Forza3. The steering wheel doesn't move anywhere near enough. The car looks like it's yawing independently of the front wheels, and skid/slide-recovery in some of these videos looks stupid from in-car.

Maybe if I could turn the steering wheel off I'd use it, if I have one in my hands I don't really need one, but it's such a distraction. I don't see how they couldn't have animated crossing of hands so the wheel can actually be turned a realistic amount.

I might have used a bonnet camera.
