I do, but I'd choose competent AI that can't do things I can't do because it's using the same physics as me, over a large grid every time.

Me too, and that's pretty much what AC provides. The AI can still do odd things from time to time, or get confused, but they generally don't play by a different physics rulebook than the player so the result is usually pretty good.

Amount of AI drivers on grid is a bit like car count in a game. You can have 700 cars and its great, but theres also nothing wrong with having say 70 of THE best cars rather than 37 different versions of a Nissan Micra and 15 of the same GT3 car but with different livery.
Yes PCars can boast grids of up to 40, but at those levels it just doesn't work on console! The game slows down so your lap time is affected even. I run PCars max 23 grid and if it rains 15 to get best results.
It seems kunos are a lot more honest and realistic in their approach, i may be wrong and i may have to eat my hat, but i think we are onto a real winner here with AC on consoles.

@dopedog, your hat is safe, AC is a real gem.:sly:
Kunos as a different approach, some will have to get accustomed to it, but once you start to appreciate what AC brings to the party, it is very hard to fell the same with the other games and some of the missing features, although it would be nice to have them, do not seem so important anymore.
I envision a lots of grins on the console players faces in April, once they have set their wheel and done a few laps.

Next thing you're saying is that developers are OK with shamelessly bumping the car count, but with 2/3 of those cars being a decade-old models.

Oh, wait...

No i'm saying (and i was careful not to start a flame war so used "700 cars and thats great!") that its not OK per se but each to their own and the games that offer massive car counts are in a division of their own anyway.
But i digress, if PCars could even reach the dizzy heights on consoles of 40 plus grid count (it can't without issues) then it shouldn't be used as a new industry standard.
Go look at most real racing and you'll quickly notice the ones with huge grids are multi class and infact a lot of UK club races get merged together to look like a big grid when you may have 3 class A's 10 class B's etc etc etc. So the field soon splits up anyway.
So i dont want to see a willy waving dev war of who can put the most AI onto the back of the box as i far rather see quality AI using the same physics as the player and with no major ruining draw backs... So Kunos not trying to compete with PCars grid count get a resounding thumbs up from me..

Just read up on the last pages, and i think it's time to gloat that i bought a PC last year:

Genuine question...Why?
Because people like to gloat.
How much did you spend on your PC?
700€, GTX960 i5 combo highly recommended. Eats consoles for breakfast, lot's more you can do with it, no need to rebuy all your peripherals once again, free online, modding + new games are at an average 10-20 bucks cheaper. Connected to the telly with an HDMI and using a wireless keyboard so comfy from the couch.
Also is Heston laughing at all the dead kids in the US due to guns?
I figure you watched Bowling for Columbine no? :p

Anyhow, let's not derail the thread any further as this is meant for console owners.

Well it should 'eat consoles for breakfast' as you put it. Was thinking of going PC route the raceroom package 3000 euro's seat/ PC etc etc, gonna see how AC performs on the console first as I am someone who takes pride in being called a 'casual' gamer.

If only Sony and Microsoft used higher quality components on the consoles so that developers wouldn't have to sacrifice one thing for another. I wouldn't mind paying $600-800 if they did that.

Regarding AI on consoles, I don't mind having only 12-16 if it means having quality AI and not some on rails. My point is that I wish the consoles were better so that AC devs could have optional large grids with the high quality AI.

Well really the system mentioned is rather low to what is technically possible on PC. Some of the big boys will laugh at such specs and gloat themselves, as they do. I've had high end PC in the past on various occasions, but personally also found the benefits come with major pains too. Windows OS issues, Steam issues, game modding issues. Upgrading hardware issues. Technically superior by all means and with additional hardware superior options regards sim/racing too, yep no doubts about it lots of extras possible.

However a good question is will everyone moving to PC get a great deal more enjoyment out of their gaming. Looking beyond the technical advantages if the gameplay is essentially similar and looking at many recent multiplatform games graphically their is not massive differences to the general appearances. (See Eurogamer). Frame rates yes will be lower but most console gamers have never experienced over 60fps anyways or non jaggie visuals.

It will be interesting to see how AC and Dirt rally compare on PS4 to PC from the aspect of fun/entertainment they bring, depends what or where your gaming pleasure lays too. Do you game to appreciate or experience technical excellence or for the actual fun experience the game brings?

Casual gaming certainly still suits the console gamer more and if a T500/T300 is your area of budget/equipment then I think plenty of fun can still be had with the console option. Notice however PC Sim titles are now coming out on console but you wont be finding GT Sport arriving on PC and while it will be technically inferior to PC it will likely push the boundaries of what the PS4 can achieve from a technical aspect, something PD tend to always do even if the game itself has short comings.

Personally I'm delighted to see PC titles arriving with the same physics and general gameplay on the consoles. If anything it might give people less reasons to now consider going the PC route as they are no longer exclusive to PC platform. Will this be the new trend as companies know they can profit more and porting to console this generation is more feasible? I myself could live with other limitations if the games themselves run well enough on the PS4 but have great hope in AC being a good port over.

Steam has Assetto Corsa for the PC on sale 30% off through 2/12.

The game plus all Dream Packs are $41.99 US. $31.49 US for just the game.

I'm holding out for the console release, but I thought I'd pass this sale info on.

Agreed. The reason why i call myself a proud 'casual gamer' is because its generally used as an insult but its far from it to me, as the flip side is to me a sad sack sat in his parents house no girlfriend no kids no life just 24/7 gaming with not a strong grasp on real life or real responsibilities, spending all their social handouts on building their PC and 'rig'.
I'm sure they aren't all like that but then not all 'casual gamer' love playing mario kart either.

That's a great deal, looks like it's almost half off full price. Even running it on a laptop that barely meets specs, I can't get enough AC. :dopey:

Looks like a race to see who makes us buy a PS4 first, Kunos or Polyphony. I'll have both, please.
