I watched the video before it was taken down, and in all honesty; the actual layout looked damn near identical to FM5's laser scanned version. There was a few differences here an there though with the kerbs, such as around karussell. After watching the video, I honestly wish I still had a working TX wheel so I could do a proper comparison to this run I did on FM5 with a stock E30.

Shouldn't be all bad though, as my G27 is brilliant on Assetto.

First Nordschleife On-Board Lap.

EDIT: VIDEO REMOVED

It was released with the word "Nurburgring" in the title and the track is not yet licensed. The person posting it was apparently asked to take it down and told SMS to "stuff it" using different words and I thought it appropriate to remove it in that case. I also unsubscribed myself from his channel.

One of the places track makers take liberties sometimes is with the trees and greenery. I'll be curious to see how closely Kunos matched up the scenery, but I have no doubt the track surfaces will be nearly identical.

I read Khunos emphasized on recognition points that real life drivers would use for braking points and apexes, so i'm expecting the greens to be like the ones IRL.

I always remembered Jackie S. saying he used a tree to see which line he had to take to enter the carousel. Wonder if that tree is still there though after 40 something years.

I use trees all the time as brake markers, sometimes as brakes :O. Im just like Jakie Steweart.

I use the rumble strip or the grass and road marks. Especially on the modern tracks. More safer for me, but idk if it's the fastest.

I remember that video, the 'track' was the same but the greenery was all foreign, wasn't he driving a convertible Merc of some sort, giving a tour for the coming race that weekend ?

I unfortunately don't think the tree is there anymore, or it's just missing in GT's rendition and I haven't actively looked for it in recent on-board videos.

Yeah exactly it was from Roman Polanski's documentary:

Tree comes up around the 3 minutes mark ;)

That was a great film, I've watched a few times. I love how he explains driving techniques and his approach to a particular track.
One of my favorites is of him teaching James May to drive on TopGear

Quick question....I just upgraded my PC and it should run this game pretty good....But most videos I see are only one car on the track...I know this isn't a full game yet but are there AI??..If so are they any good??..Is it easy to find other real people to race against??

I think they improved the Photomode :D

Yeah there is AI and I think its actually pretty good, pretty fast it can be a very challenging race with the AI set to >95. Sometimes they make silly mistakes and sometimes they gift you passes for some reason but in general its good.

I love doing race weekends, you sit in the pits during quali and the AI cars will randomly come out of the pits or back in to change set up, it gives it real immersion like you are at a track doing a real quali session :)

I know your question has already been answered, but thought I'd add to it. The AI's speed seems to vary from track to track and even car to car, sometimes they are decently quick and sometimes they have some Gran Turismo style dopey moments. First lap of most races is usually messy, but then things improve a lot as the field spreads out.

I posted two videos with 50 something cars on track, I'll link you to them so you can see what it looks and sounds like.

Rumor is that 1.1 will bring major improvements on the AI, so soon it will only get better.

Thanks for the responses. Ill check those videos out when I get home (work firewall) But my question about racing with real people wasn't answered....Is it possible at this time to find races with real people??..Open lobbies??

Yes it is possible. You can race the AI or go to multiplayer.

Check my channel videos if you want. I have a bit of everything. Solo runs, AI races and Multiplayer races.

Rumor is true. I've tried the 1.1 beta for a bit and all around the a.i. is pretty fast all around. I tried it mostly at Monza. And in turn 1, you wont see the usual follow the train. They're more spread out.
There's 2 problems with the AI currently, that they all pile up at the start so either you go from last till the front in one corner or you crash, and that the field is uneven with sometimes 2 of them driving away into the distance and the rest trying to match your pace. Glad to hear that problem nr. 1 is solved but i wonder if issue nr. 2 has been rectified?

Doesn't happen always but yesterday for example i was doing the career challenge with the SLS @ Spa, and the Ferrari 458 in front just drove away from the start, and set laptimes many seconds faster than what the SLS could possibly have done...

That is because they put the 458 S3 IIRC. That is a copy of Ferrari Challenge specs, with slicks. So it is to be expected to be way faster.

Why they didn't fix that allready is what I don't understand. I'm still yet to try career mode until they polish it.

Makes sense now :)
Talking about redoing career, i hope they update the career races also and include the new circuits and cars they release. Bit of wishful thinking though as not many games actually integrate their DLC into the existing career mode, but if you look at AC and how it's a bit short on content, it would be a welcome move.

I know PC sims don't work like Gran Turismo, and you get all the cars at once, but I do wish there was some kind of reward for completing career races. As they are now there's not much point in doing them, creating a custom race with the cars and lap count you want is far more enjoyable than the short career races with hodge-podge grids. Well, IMO anyway. (Plus, the structure/format of the career races is not very inspiring). I'm not sure what they could offer as rewards since there's no currency in the game, but maybe liveries and driver's outfits could be nice rewards. Of course, you wouldn't be able to show off your livery prize to your friends online since you don't get to choose your livery in multiplayer. But some kind of reward would be nice and give a reason to do career races.

PCARS will be the same i guess, would be better if you unlock the cars in career mode for use in time trials and custom races.

I'm not sure, I like having all the cars unlocked from the beginning. Maybe some of the alternate versions of the cars, like Step 1/Step 2 could be unlocked by doing career races.

Thing is when you have them all from the get go, you'll just drive the ones that excite you the most and the slower ones will collect virtual dust. I wouldn't mind having only a car or 5 available at the start and then unlocking them in career, as long as they reward you enough cars the whole time so it doesn't take ages to drive the fastest ones.

After GT6, the thought of having to grind to unlock cars isn't palatable. There really aren't that many cars in the game to begin with and a lot of mine already collect dust (I usually float between the same half dozen cars, not including mod cars) so limiting them even further and/or forcing people to drive cars they're not interested in would hurt more than help. IMO, of course.

But some cars have upgraded versions available, so by having the upgraded versions as a prize it would mean you still get to enjoy the base car but have to earn the upgraded version. Kind of a best of both worlds that way. Or you could earn liveries for the races and earn the upgraded car by golding the championship, so that way you have incentive to do all the races and do well in the championship, or go back and race again if you only got silver.

Personally, I'm glad Assetto Corsa gives me all cars and tracks from the get-go. I think all racing games that aren't driven by a storyline should give the players total freedom as to what they want to do. Want to play a career and progress gradually, you can. Want to just hop in to your favorite car and race, you can. It's your choice, not the developers telling you to do X thing first. I'm the kind of person who enjoys games most when they give me the freedom to choose how I want to be challenged. That's why, for me, games that require extensive hours of doing someone else's ideas of challenges or events, just to get a chance to drive the cars I like the most, feel like a chore, until I unlock everything and then they become fun. I play games for entertainment, not to do chores, you already have to work hard in real-life to get rewards, you don't need that experience to translate to your time of relaxation.
