Supposedly it's going to have 572bhp, with the M5 having 560. But this will be heavier, guaranteed.
I would gladly have this over the M5, XFR, and the Porsche....look at it for christ sakes

Audi has gotten their act together in the styling department. There are a couple of things I would change such as those silver pillars in the lower grilles, but I very much like what they've done.

It's 552 bhp in fact, less than the previous car (meaning the willy-waving seems to have finally stopped after years) but it also weighs a 100 kg less resulting in even better performance figures.

Oh, and it looks miles better too.

Google failed me :( the world really is coming to an end.

Isn't it a twin-turbo V8 though? Nothing will beat the V10 of the previous generation.

Maybe not, but from what I've heard the Audi/VW/Bentley 4.0 litre V8 turbo is a bloody good engine. I've heard nothing but good things about the Continental V8 and Audi S8.

That V10, is it going to be the last time we see it? Lamborghini hasn't said much about what's powering their next Gallardo.

I really don't see the point in fast Audis.

They might be fast in a straight line, but they have all the feel of a dead dog and understeer like shopping trolleys.

I'll take an E63 wagon over this any day.

Audi sure know how to make a wagon look good. I mean, the rear end is really the only part that needs to be changed, but so many mess that small part up. I mean, look at the M5. Did they really think that looked nice?

I love fast estates but god Audis don't half bore me nowadays, they're just vulgar.

Jag need to make an XF-R (or even XFR-S) estate.

From Top Gear:

You'll probably figure it out quickly enough, so there's no point inserting some verbose preamble: the brand new Audi RS6, pictured above, is less powerful than the last Audi RS6.

Did that just bring a shudder to your Internet brains? We've long become accustomed to a world where newer automatically means biblically more powerful, so is this less powerful Audi RS6 a welcome flare of sanity?

We should certainly think so. It's the third generation of Audi's über estate, and features the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 used in the Bentley and Audi S8, tweaked to some 552bhp and 516lb ft of torque. But here's the interesting part: despite the bhp drop from 572bhp, this new Audi RS6 will accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds. Three point nine. That's a full 0.7 tenths quicker than the old one. Yikes.

Audi tells us you'll be able to tap into that torque from 1,750rpm. The reason for such efficiency rests in the V8's design: the two turbos and intercooler are all mounted inside the ‘V' of the cylinder banks. Also, the exhaust side of the cylinder heads - which ultimately feed the turbos - sits on the inside, so there's a shorter gas path.

Top speed is limited to 155mph, but can be raised to 174mph in the optional Dynamic pack, and raised further still to 189mph with the Dynamic plus pack. Even then, it's still limited. All this, and Audi reckons it'll hit 28.8mpg on the combined cycle, in part thanks to cylinder shut-off technology at low engine speeds that turns it into a four-cylinder. Floor it, and all eight will catapult you into a hernia instantaneously.

This economy is also thanks to the new RS6's lightweight body: it's 100kg lighter than its predecessor, partly because the new A6 Avant uses a lot of aluminium in its body, and the decision to downsize from a V10 to a V8. 100kg is a lot, if you're wondering.

You get an eight-speed tiptronic gearbox with shift paddles and ‘tighter' lower gears for pace, and a taller eighth cog for economy. Naturally, it's got permanent four-wheel-drive, featuring a self-locking centre differential (as in the RS5) and an electronic sport differential at the back.

It's also the first Audi RS model to get adaptive air suspension that lowers the body by 20mm, but here in the UK we'll get the sport suspension with dynamic ride control as standard. With the latter, you get steel springs, three-way adjustable shock absorbers and dynamic steering. When you hit ‘dynamic' mode this active steering goes to passive mode. This is good.

Sitting underneath those 20in wheels (or optional 21in gloss black rims like on the Quattro concept) are simply massive brakes: 390mm stoppers up front, or optional 420mm carbon-fibre ceramics. Press down hard enough and you'll slow down the earth's rotation.

The cockpit is typically Audi, with enough RS logos scattered around the place to remind your friends just how much money you earn. The seats are made of leather and alcantara, there are two sports seats in the rear (a three-seater bench is an option), there's an MMI touch-screen interface, lots of sensors and a decent stereo.

Not that you'll care about the stereo. Top Gear grabbed a chance to have a listen to the new Audi RS6, which comes with switchable exhaust flaps that deliver a "full-throated sound". We can vouch for this - it sounds smashing. It'll go on sale next summer with a price tag of £77,000. Like it?

Considering the Audi S8 hits 60mph in 3.5s this should be fast as help. This engine is also underrated. Motortrend dunked the S8 at about 620hp.

I must be the only one thinking this car doesn't look good at all. It looks like an estate for Premier League club players as Clarkson would say it. I'm pretty sure its performance will be spectacular going from Audi RS history, but looks? It looks bloody awful.

Nope you're not the only one, I've already expressed my distaste for it.

That's a photoshop of a non-existent model?

They should make it, looks a lot better than the F10 saloon.

It's coming next year...not sure IIRC, but may have 4WD.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have occassional problems identifying some Audi's nowadays? The A4/A6 seems pretty interchangable on the looks front.

Very much so, they look smart enough, but too easy to mistake one for another. But that appears to be what works for most VAG product lines.

Yeah, in isolation I quite like them (particularly the A5 5dr), but sometimes I'm following one at a distance and I think nice looking A4, then as I get close enough to read the badge I see it's a 6... of course might be my eyes are getting old like the rest of me.

Still looks better than the Peugeot in front of it. I guess that's at least one battle won by that particular 5 series gen.

It doesn't look bad, necessarily, it just looks like an absolutely soulless machine created to excel at one purpose: Going unbelievably fast, and maybe taking on a few corners. There is zero emotion in it whatsoever.

I'll stick with the Jaguar XF Estate. Or wait for the Chevrolet Nomad (assuming that it is happening).

Wow like the look of this new Audi.
I prefer an Audi RS6 to an M5 and E63 because with Audi's 4WD you can drive fast in all weather conditions.I think Audi does the best interiors of all the German brands too.
Audi's all look similar, like a family that all squints.:)
