Man i was always under the impression i was a pretty good driver as i`am the best one out of my mates and brothers, i can simply out drive them!I drove hard but pretty clean to do my 7:43 i had a few oversteer slides, i dont see how you guys can do 7:30-20`s i have got to see how it`s done! :scared:

I think it really depends on how well aquainted you are with the 'ring, I'd done about 500 laps of it before I had a crack with the 350Z. My 7'29 is perfectly clean and really doesn't include any dangerous driving either. What sort of laps have you done on the 'ring in other cars?

...oh and Maverick...it's me you're looking for:

"Oh I got a 5'04..."

Yeah sure you did...when you beat 6'11 in the Ford v8 Supercar round the 'ring you can come back to school

Do we have to use the PAL versions? or can I use my JNTSC (Ghinese) GT4?

Cheers,

TF

btw, I wanted to buy MOTOR, but I ended up buying Car And Driver.... :O :banghead:

The article is very brief and makes no mention of what version of GT4 or whether or not the laps have to be clean either?!? So I don't see why you couldn't enter.

By the way, I own a Proton Satria and am not sure whether to take offense at your avatar or not :-)

I guess FR3AK would not care much if you're offended by his avatar... since he's from malaysia, like I am. :D
It says they'd verify winning entry by memory card, right? Anyone ever tried loading a non-PAL replay on your PAL version?
and i suppose it's not necessary to take up both challenges? the fastest car i've access to in arcade mode is the toyoto 7 race car... :D (might have remembered the name wrongly. :scared: )

It's not the PAL version nor does it involve GT4, but I tried loading up my GT2 save file couple of years back onto the US version of the same game and it didn't work.......

btw, nice to see another Malaysian here!

Just did 3 clean laps and got 7'35 for my best. I think i can get to 7'29 but it will require some dangerous driving and luck :sly:

I'm not really offended by the avatar, just thought it was interesting. I wish they had the Satria in GT4...

As for the lap of the 'ring in the 350Z, I'm stunned at some of the other times spoken about, 7'09!!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT is quick!

You did read the post in the proper context correct? He stated that 7:09 was with the most wallriding he could do.

Are you sure you are using the power and weight mods? Only asking because I tried again this morning and for some reason I only did 3% less weight instead of 10%. I tried for about two hours and could not explain why the best I could do was 7:39...

Then in the afternoon I tried again but checking the settings first (found my mistake from earlier) and voila 7:35 within a couple of laps.

It is no wonder lap: I went off once and almost lost control another. And ofcourse the bit between the two caroussels is my weakest...

Got in on tape and will upload it later in case it is of any help to you (Right now the HDD is almost full and needs to be purged ...)

Yeah i`m using the right power and weight mods,i would have done in total 25-30 laps of the ring and know it well enough( i thought).I would like to see the vid when you get it up :odd:

Boy, It looks like I didn't take my meds today... I started compressing the video for the web only to read the message that flashes at the beginning showing the car specs and realize that I did it with SM tires.... very retarded of me. :dunce:

I'll upload it anyway once it is finished since I don't know when I will have another crack at it. It should be up in a couple of hours...

Ok thanks i can`t wait to see it

would have thought the rules should have been to keep at least one wheel on the circuit (or ripple strip) - much like the license test. BUt if someone here is doing a 7:05 by bouncing off walls, not sure whether that would still be valid!...spose if you can still keep a wheel on the track and you don't hit the wall too hard, then it would be valid (I've seen some people do it at the Karrussel in S-16)...

Slipangle, the rules have not been clarified. No one here seems to know what the rules are so I have written to the magazine and am waiting for a reply.

In the mean time I'd suggest you give it your best effort (with or without shorcuts and wall riding). Either way you will get some practice on the track and hopefully improve your times.

Hey how`s it going?
Mate i just watched the vid that was posted and i have to say there is so many many mistakes ie: i lost count of how many times the car was half off the track on a number of corners(the ripple strip was in the centre of the car) , using the ripple strip to help pull the car around the corners also, traction control/ASM light blinking like crazy, two big offs with all 4 wheels on the grass.........1 i can`t remember but i think it clipped a wall, also holding full throttle and braking at the same time whilst cornering.
On the whole it was a hard fast lap, take away all the above flaws and it would be a 7:42-7:43 lap.
However in your defence your are correct in stating the rules have yet to be determined by motor, but i`m sure the will require a much cleaner lap than the one in the vid.

premhz, I won't comment on the rummble strips as the rules have not been clarified but I will comment on the other 'flaws'you pointed out.

Traction Control/ASM light: I didn't turn those aids off. Whether the light blinks or not it has no effect on it being a 'clean lap'. Matter of fact, if you leave those aids on the light will blink lin a lot of parts of the track (specially the high speed sections) even if you are going dead straight due to wind resistance and track imperfections.

Braking whilst holding full throttle: It is called 'left foot braking' . Has no consequence on whether the lap is clean or not other than you going faster.

Braking whilst cornering: It is called 'trail braking'. Also has no consequence on whether the lap is clean or not.

Two big offs: I mention them in my post before I uploaded the video. If anything going off track actually looses you time not gains your time (unless it is a shorcut, which it wasn't). So if I didn't go off track I would be 4-5 seconds faster not slower.

You forgot to mention SM tires. Using SS tires as specified in the competition should make the lap faster by a couple of seconds.

Well... if the evidence they're asking for is simply a photo, exactly how are they supposed to enforce those rules?

Seems to me they have two choices:
1) Require a video instead
2) Let people get through the lap how ever they want to get through. As long as the rules apply to everybody equally what difference does it make?

They want a photo for the submission but verification is done with the memory card. That is how they would enforce any rules.

Ooohhhh...

So they are using the replay, got it.

:indiff: Mr.Slow Yes you are correct regarding the rules to the challange i`m still waiting on a reply from motor magazine to clarify what the rules are(hopefully for the next challenge this will be done to prevent any disagreements occuring like our present one)

Just to help clear things up a little (i was replying in a bit of a hurry)
I drive with all assists switched off as they would give me an unfair advantage therefore making the game more realistic. ( i like to control the car ie if i lose control and crash it`s because i stuffed up but if i save a slide etc it`s because i drove the car not the ps2!)

I do know all the racing terms but as i was recalling the flaws from memory after watching the vid i used those terms as i made notes to myself whilst watching it.

Regarding left foot braking
I dont do it as i consider it cheating as it`s too easy to do whilst playing a game(my 8yo brother can take corners with both feet slammed on the pedals)
Try replicating it in real life and you can see how it wont work.
If you watch the V8 supercars and they do often show the drivers feet,i cant recall any driver holding the accelerator flat whilst braking towards or through a corner do you?

Trail braking is fine with me as it helps to turn the nose in and also bleed off speed if you arrived to hot into the corner, but not whilst accelerating(see above note)

Looking back it may have been one trip off the track, the other had you pretty crossed up.Without ASM you would have lost it and spun and it would have been the end of your lap(as we both know the "ring" will bite hard and doesn`t forgive)
Your trip onto the grass didn`t appear to have had any affect(well perhaps a small one) to your lap time.
Yes i did forget about your tyre choice and having soft tyres will make a difference to your lap time.It was mostly a good lap and i see i will need more practice on this very demanding track.
Hopefully Motor will provide some clearer rules and i look forward to the challange.Has anyone heard back from them yet? , i`m still waiting

7.23.??? clean, after about 30 or so laps, might be able to go sub 7.20 but i dont reckon, especially considering Im using a normal controller.

Good one. Got the vid?

OK. I had written a long reply but I realized I would just prolong the argument. The only solution I see is for me to try again with no aids and soft tires. :)

Will let you know when I do that. In the mean time: I have not heard from the magazine yet.

This I would seriously dispute.

I'd argue the exact opposite.

Aids impact your lap times but provide a more forgiving ride.

* AGreed with jdw. AIDS trim speed. Period.

As for "7.23.??? clean, after about 30 or so laps, might be able to go sub 7.20 but i dont reckon, especially considering Im using a normal controller." ... one of the fastest guys in the WRS uses a controller almost weekly. Controller or wheel ... it's irrelevant; it's all how well you use your 'weapon of choice'.

i did a 7'14.345 no cheating with the wheel,

bye
