Why doesn't a youtube video show in my post above? How do you put one in?

Anyway, here's a link to the video seeing as the video itself comes up as a white box here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt991EpMqpQ
It was the 2003 Bathurst 24hr and it was the final laps, they were on the same lap, and they were duking it out after 24hrs of racing.

That was amazing!

Do you guys have stock car racing over there, too?

there not the normal V8 series either...thats the 24 hour race where the best come to compete from around the world to conquer 'The Mountain'....Our normal V8 series is closer than that again...

7.0L Corvette C5R motor, 305km/h top speed, 1/4's in the 11s....that, ladies and gentlement is the 'stillborn' HRT427!! :grumpy: 2 road versions snuck out of the factory however, like the four Phase 4 GTHO's did back in the '70s. Pricetag: $200k new.

Now if THAT was in GT5.......💡:trouble:.....ahwell, we can only dream. :)

RJ, we do but we don't as such. NASCAR never caught on here so after a few years of trying with NASCAR & AUSCAR (Aussie versions of NASCAR cars), it pretty much died out. Calder Park (our NASCAR track) doesn't get used for what it's built for anymore.

Our main circle track work comes in the form of Sprintcars (World Of Outlaws, etc.), but yeah......different kettle of fish right there. Drag Racing is a niche market here still but growing, and the only thing that people over generations here really get into are our classic Holden vs Ford battles, and V8 Supercar racing allows Mr. & Mrs. Meathead to actually enjoy motorsport, same as what NASCAR does over there. ;)

dimplz is right though, the parity in V8 Supercars means the racing is 10 times harder than the video you saw and as he said, even closer. And V8 Supercars use 5.0L blocks still, where the video cars were 7.0L 'production' models, but were basically race cars as our Monaro only had the Gen 3/LS1 motor at the time pumping 245Kw.

Our main thing in Australia however.....unlike the US, is that we like our racecars to turn both left AND right. :p:lol:

Mafs!!

IIRC, they do. 'Cept they turn right.
What does IIRC mean?

Hey now! They have to turn right to get out of those pit stalls!

Mafs!!

Actually, I think that the race Monaro was a stroked out LS1 motor custom built in house at Garry Rogers Motorsport.

Thanks so much Rotary Junkie for posting that video, I'm not sure I quite understood what you meant about how to put it in, I'll try and suss it out.

Edit: Now after seeing that video, who wants to drive the revamped AT Holden Monaro, inspired by those very 427 Monaros and setting lap times in the 1'42's at GVS?

Edit 2: I'm just trying the put in a video thing here, if it works, it's back on Australian wildlife combined with racing.

There was another year the roo actually got hit.

 "The luckiest roo in Australia", I remember the Sports Tonight guy saying when it happened.

I could change this into wildlife vs cars, I have a VERY nasty DTM Merc vs Rabbit exchange but it's too graphic for the kiddies. :trouble:

Holdenboy, I have my old V8 Supercar based SS still, geared exactly as AVESCO has on all the V8's (300km/h top speed only). Very scary ride to say the least, even in higher gears with TCS off and R5's. :D If I'm not too busy tonight with trying the 1000m challenge I'll give it a whack around GVS and see how I go on it. :)

Mafs!!

My V8 Supercar SS Commodore has never been released, and it's quite different to the Walkinshaw I posted in Aussie Tuners. The Monaro is easily the best, fastest drive, but the SS V8 Supercar I have uses R3 tyres and around 700hp to get a GVS time of 1.43.720. Not bad for a massive sedan!

If I Recall / Remember Correctly.

Didn't I make you one with those specs, actually named it as Commodore V8 Supercar? Don't do anything stupid here. ;)

Yes you did make me one, this is a different one, it's white and actually has a sports exhaust, yours was red and I specifically requested no exhaust remember? I should drive yours again.....unless I sold it  Mine as far as I know is a very different tune, my style of tune.

The camera almost missed it until you see the Roo flying through the air  There is another video, where a Roo jumps on the track, sees a whole bunch of 600+hp behemoths coming at it and has a panic attack, falls over and scrambles for dear life. I'll see if I can get that one, just to exercise my new found ability to post youtube videos. ;)

Edit: Actually scratch that, I wanna talk about cars, Aussie Rides, and racing.

That tyre trick was awesome, I've never seen it before. Plus the guy that made that video can't spell tried.

i remember watching the tyre falling of Marcus Ambrose car..his first season in V8's at Canberra...and the commentary is by the late Barry Sheene

I'm just trying to attract our foreign friends to take a nice holiday to play with our wildlife!! Wildlife like this.......:trouble:

Mafs!!

HAH! I love it! All he needs now is a set of brass octo-knuckles and a Desert Eagle and he'd be a fine candidate for a playable guest character in the next Grand Theft Auto!

Things to take with you when going to Australia:
-Desert Eagle
-P90
-SPAS15 shotgun with barrel clip
-Flamethrower
-M134
-Governator to carry the M134

Okay, I think that is enough to handle the wildlife.. and possible some hoons in their pushrod wonders.

I think I'd just go with an XA-202YVI with a special interior. And an optional 12.7 ItKK, of course.

possibly and A-A Gun and an armed vehicle as well...

GTA DOWN UNDER

I would say that the armed vehicle is the most important one- some bush pigs just don't die when being fired at here. Oh, I'm talking about some Australian women here, not the animal kind :sly: You need an armed vehicle because if you have a good car that's what they attack.

So even after your owning those Holdens, you are still alive?

Well, he did say that they attack people with good cars...

So of COURSE he's still alive, driving those Holdens and such!

If the 12.7mm AA (Anti Australian in this case, I guess) doesn't make short work of them I warmly welcome them to try hack their way through the XA-202YVI to get me... just about as possible as getting through the Ayers Rock. Running over them with 24 tons of Finnish steel right away would be a bit unsportive, I'll gladly let them make the initiative. :p
