Fantastic race. Ambrose and Murphy tangled late, both had different views on it but I see it as Ambrose turned in at Murphy and Murphy had a great dig at Ambrose's personality and ego. How do you guys see it?

Skaife won by staying out of trouble. Kelly couldn't really get comfortable in the car but he did an alright job none the less. I'm really happy Skaife won, Richards did great to get 2nd too.

That's how I see it too..

Muprhy and Ambrose both handle incidents like this much the same, they are never in the wrong and it's always the other persons fault.. Meh.

HOLDEN 7 IN A ROW...... felt sorry for lowndesy... fancy a tire falling from the sky and hitting your window 👎 Skaife looked there and thereabouts all race, just kept his nose clean. Jason Richards and Jamie Wincup where a suprise.. good on 'em. The crash.... Ambroses fault... hit him comming out of Griffins... then turned in on him going into the cutting..... and the BELOCLAVA SCANDAL..... WHAT A RACE!!

The baloclava incedent was a new one. It's odd how such a little thing can destroy a race.

It was bad luck for Lowndesy. The first mistake was his fault and he admitted to it which was good, even joked about it like he usually does.

It really annoyed me when Ambrose had the interview about the crash and he blamed Murphy, then just said he's sorry for the guys. We all know that's not true.

i only saw the first 30 laps of it, but wow, there were more incidents than a f1 race!!! just one question: why does everyone have to race for position at the last corner at the end of lap 1? well, that's bathurst for ya!!!

congrats to skaife and kelly, shame ambrose didn't win because of an incident which i've heard of. could someone fill me in?

Pretty good race. It was funny when Ambrose got owned by the marshals … and the crash he had was just nuts! I thought they’d red flag it then.

Well done to Skaife, he did a bloody good job and he kept his nose clean. But that’s what you have to do at Bathurst.

Lowndes just had a really unlucky race, I feel srry for the guy.

Tagliani was mediocre, he just didn't impress.

One of the best races in years!!

Ambrose was definitely at fault in "the incident". Murphy made a mistake through Griffens Bend and Ambrose began to overtake him - minor touch as Murphy regained full control of car is just a race incident. Ambrose doesn't appear to have sufficiently passed (B-pillar rule) Murphy on the kink in to The Cutting and Ambrose cuts across the racing line, not leaving enough room.

The Lowndes car still did a fantastic job considering the damage done by a rogue tyre. Unbelievable that 2 cars were running in the race with no front/rear glass.

Seton found yet another way not to win - this is the first time a bent steering arm has put him out of contention, however the temporary missfire didn't help much either.

Congrats to Skaife / Kelly and all their supporters - a good, clean race led to a well deserved win.

Full marks to Jason Richards and Whincup for a damn good 2nd place. They may not have won but I think they had the best race today. To stick with HRT until the final lap was amazing.

I didn't realise it was on Motors TV :indiff:

Any wildlife get hit this year?

dont' worry mate! motors tv are showing the whole race again from 4:00pm till 11:00pm!!! You can see it then!!!

Great race! Go Holden!

Whats this about Ambrose saying he hasn't worn a balaclava for the last 2 years!? They should strip him from the last two championship wins! :D

HAHA YES... STRIP HIM, STRIP FORD!!! all serious he's a good driver but personality sux. Will be interesting to see how he goes in the USA... hope he does well, givs V8 supercar drivers a good name.

Well, after watching a dummy spit in a Nascar race not long ago, I think he'll fit in well. :lol:
I think I'm gonna have to watch a few Nascar races to see how he is on an oval.

Awesome race, awesome crash!

Ambrose's fault, the tosser. He's up himself, I don't like the guy at all. No wonder he doesn't wear the balaclava, he doesn't need his head getting any hotter than it already is...

Go Skaife!

Very entertaining, eventful race! :)

I have never been so angry with a race car driver as I am with Ambrose, right now. That was definately his fault. I'm surprised Murph didn't deck him then and there. I would've. I remember yelling out "YES!!!!!" When Murph passed Ambrose to take the lead, then I remember yelling "NOOO!!!!!1" when Ambrose took Murph out. I was hoping that he and his car was going to go over that fence.

Poor Lowndes! I may be glad he didn't win, but what a way to not win. That is bad luck in it's purest form. Well the wall tap was driver error, but he admitted it.

Big ups to Jason Richards and Jaimie Whincup. To me they were the stand out team/pair. Screw Skaife and Kelly! Next year keep a look out for these two drivers.

I must say, I can imagine why Brad Jones had a little sulk after that lap 1 incident. I'd probably cry if that happened to me. I mean lap 1 of a 161 lap race.

I missed out on viewing the middle section of the race. I had to go milk some cows. I did tape it though. Yes I love the V8's THAT much.

Welldone I suppose to Skaife and Kelly. They didn't do anything outstanding (As far as I know) and that's probably why they won. They kept out of trouble. I remember looking at the car on the last few laps and I noticed that there was not even a scratch on it. Even the air ducts were clean. No plastic bags, like a couple of years back. Well done to them.

Methinks you’re loving the cows a bit more. :odd:

We booked our honeymoon for an extra night so we weren't driving home while Bathurst was on. I was sitting in a cabin near the beach at Huskisson throwing down longnecks watching the race yesterday.
Ah the trials and tribulations of being a Lowndes supporter. We all know he is fast but it was pretty silly to push so hard at the start of a 1000km race. Later on he said he should have backed off by half a second. Too late by then. I liked Perkins' comment regarding the tyre incident and the 'illegal' Larry bar that stopped the tyre coming into the car.
As for the Murphy/Ambrose incident. I saw it exactly the same way as everyone else here. Ambrose obviously hasn't learnt his lesson from Barbagallo about racing room. It will be interesting to see what the IPO says about the incident and the confontation afterwards.

From the CAMS website:

An investigation was carried out by the IPO into the incident involving car #1, Marcos Ambrose, and car #51, Greg Murphy, on lap 144. The IPO:
+ Considered the incar footage of car #51;
+ Considered the incar footage of car #1;
+ Considered the incar footage of car #10 (immediately following);
+ Recognised it was a difficult part of the track to overtake;
+ Interviewed the driver of car #51;
+ Interviewed the driver of car #1;
+ Considered observers reports;
+ Considered and viewed Channel 10 television coverage;
+ Considered the opinion and advice of the Driving Standards Observer; and
+ Considered the matter on its own merits.

It was determined that it was not likely to be clearly established that there had been a breach of the rules by either driver. Accordingly, no further action was taken on the incident and the investigation closed.

In my opinion (and it seems I'm in the minority here) Greg Murphy should shoulder the bulk of the blame. If he wanted to run 2 wide into the cutting (a marginal manouvre at best) he needed to move further to the left of the racetrack. He had much more room on his left than Ambrose had on the right.

However, I don't think Murphy should have been contesting that stretch of racetrack anyway. Having made a mistake at the previous corner, Ambrose had almost entirely passed him and was entitled to believe that Murphy should yield to avoid a monumental accident. The smart thing for Murphy to do was to lift slightly, keep both cars on the road and try to pass Ambrose over the next 17 laps.

That's skating on thin ice in this forum.

What happens on the previous corner is completely irrelevant. Murphy was on the inside of the track heading into a left hand turn and I disagree that Murphy had plenty of room on his left and I also disagree that Ambrose had almost entirely past him. The front of Murphy's car was somewhere around the front passenger side door of Ambrose's car. Murphy isn't going to back out of a corner at the end of the biggest race of the year because someone is a bit in front of him when he has the inside line for the next corner.

Ambrose is at fault. If Murph had gone left he would not have made the corner properly and would've lost a massive amount of time compared to the leaders. On a race track there is a definite racing line, then there is a general racing line, then you have the "If you have a problem" line. Murph would've been in the latter one. If he had've braked he could've caused an accident still. It would've been worse than when Ambrose was "Brake testing" Rick Kelly last season.

Yes Sir, Captain Planet!

I disagree, I don't think Murphy was that far up the side of Ambrose's car.

I have a question.

Does anyone see parallels between this Murphy/Ambrose incident and the Schumacher/Hill incident at Adelaide in 1994?

In that: Car leading into one turn makes mistake, following car gets into strong position for the next turn and is hit when they turn in.

Who is usually blamed for Adelaide '94?

Ofcourse you are going to disagree. There's similarities, but the 1994 crash didn't block the whole track and correct me if I'm wrong but one of the cars kept going.

The person who caused the accident is usually blammed for the accident. In the Bathurst case, it was Ambrose.

What does blocking the track have to do with it? F1 cars are a lot smaller than V8s.

And neither car kept going in '94. Hill made it back to the pits but no further.

I've just watched the video again and I stick by my interpretation. The smart thing for Murphy to have done would have been to cede the corner. But you of course are entitled to your opinion.

I think the IPO has made the only reasonable decision. They have basically called it a racing incident. And this is after viewing far more varied footage than we have access to.

I am assuming you have read the sticky threads associated with the motorsport forum?

I'm meaning that a lot more than two cars were affected

I don't remember fully seeing that race, so I wasn't quite sure what happened to the cars. I just remember Schumi up on two wheels, then into the tyres

Yes I am entitled to my own opinion. The same way you are.

IPO said that because to them it is too hard to tell for sure. I am a Holden fan. I am a Murph fan, but if it were his fault, I'd admit it. I know bad driving when I see it.

Nah. I've just been winging it, these past 2+ years, I've been here :rolleyes:

They were both at fault, Ambrose thought 'right, now I've got you ya bastard!' and tried to push him over and Murphy though 'Hey ya bastard! I'm not letting you through!'

It's just bad blood between them, neither of them were going to give way for the other...

I agree, the sad thing is the other victims that piled up to stop intime.

Ok, that's fine.

There's just one thing I would like you to do. Please, humour me.

Imagine the position of the cars reversed. That is, Ambrose is on the inside with Murph trying to pass on the outside. The cars touch and Murphy gets spun into the wall heavily.

Can you tell me honestly that your opinion of who was at fault would change?

I can assure you it wont ;) You are infact dealing with a Murphy fanboy there.

I still stick by my opinon. I don't see why Ambrose was turning in, the apex was quite a bit further through and he obviously wasn't far enough up for the defensive driving. I just see it as he turned in to block, yet there was no room for it.

I really didn't like his attitude about it either. He's a tosser. Good riddance.
