WIRE: Kawasie to drive Toro Rosso for Season 6
Just minutes ago Red Bull Racing held a press conference confirming that Season 3 champion Yuuji Kawasie has signed with their 2nd team Scuderia Toro Rosso for GTP F1 Season 6.
Kawasie had been appealing to Renault for a high-profile drive in Season 6 becuase of their lag in signing World Champion Bruno Domingues up for a 2nd season.
"Well, any sane team would've had him resigned by the time he was eleventybillion points up on Davidson with about 5 races to go," he reasoned.
However, Renault flatly turned him down and signed Domingues for Season 6 hours after the end of season party. They also released a press statement stating that "they didn't want no lousy flash-in-the-pan driver who scored only one podium and 1/10 of the leader's point total last season."
Luckily, Kawasie was able to score some Renault-brand crying towels.
After being turned down Kawasie quickly struck a deal with Toro Rosso, since both sides were in desperate need of a drive. A seat at Super Aguri was also open and rather appealing, but Kawasie argued that "In order to get more attention to this sport I think having a 11-team grid would be a good idea. And besides, last time I went to a supposedly-bad team that did good the last year [Midland] I totally botched the season. So that's why I've signed with Toro Rosso."
Critics may be quick to point out that it is entirely possible that Kawasie may be the lone driver at Toro Rosso this season but he is not worried about that situation, arguing that it will place more of the team's focus on him instead. He has had vast experience with single-car teams in his adventures in other F1 leagues where the other driver promptly keeled over after the first practice session and became a useless dummy.
BREAKING NEWS: After being informed that his old seat in Midland was in fact, still open, and that there was a teammate available, Kawasie replied, "Well I wish I had considered that before I cut all this red tape. I've signed the deal so I don't much want to go back now. I wish Reynolds better luck at Midland than what I had."
