Bruno picked 4. And I was actually going to pick 4, considering that's my current spot in the championship.

I guess 7 will have to do.

And is anyone up for a public game? I will have a slot open tomorrow morning, but I'll actually wait to fill it this time. A (non-ChampCar) game of your choice, I really don't know what I want to do.

8 for me. I'm pondering retirement, but we'll see what happens. If I'm picked I might just go to a rubbish team to try and and maybe help some of the other players who havent been champion yet.

My offer still stands.

Feast your eyes: Pukekohe Park Race 1, very wet.

Boring race. And I win by a whole lap.

Mind you, Suzy did pit five times... and I was the only person not to pit onto slicks

Introducing..

The first ranking system that rewards consistancy!

How it works:

using the last five races, points are rewarded to each driver for ever race they finish. The amount of points is determined by their finishing position, 1st place get's 22 points, 2nd gets 21 points and so on untill 22nd which recieves 1 points. However if you retire, no points are given. So, let's see who tops the Power Ten after today's race:

Week 1 (After Silverstone)

1st: Blake Haswell
-bV
98 points
2nd: Brad Horton
-bV
78 points
3rd: David Smith
-bV
76 points
4th: Bruce McLaren
-bV
76 points
5th: Will Whitcomb
-bV
75 points
6th: Lee Davidson
-bV
69 points
7th Duncan Hutchison
-bV
67 points
8th Herman Chang
-bV
61 points
9th: Dan Bathie
-bV
52 points
10th Luke Mason
-bV
49 points

Also,

I may have came up with an idea to finally be rid of the lottery system!

Right this may sound confusing so I'll describe it in steps, hopefully it will make sense:

> Right, when you start with a new team, you will be given a 'contract'. The length of this contract will be determined by the random number generator. This will pick a number between 1 and 3, the number picked represents the number of seasons the contract lasts.
> Also, at the start of the season, I will PM you with a target championship position based on the performance of the team last season. If you reach expectations you will not be fired at the end of the season. However if you fall below the expectation, the team will fire you and you will be left on the transfer market.
> Once the current season has ended, people who have had their contracts run out will be asked to find a new team so someone new may take their seat.
> If you decide to change teams halfway through your current contract, it will be canceled and a new contract will be made with new expectation.

Think that covers it pretty much, what do you guys think? Would you like to see this replace the lottery?

For the sake of the RPG side of the game I like your new idea, Lee. But for the sake of everyone getting a shot at the decent seats I do not like it.

I don’t really have a complete opinion on it yet. It has some good points and some bad points.

Heh, power 10, interesting. Speaking as a stat junkie, the more the better. :D
Incidentally, could we see the rest of the power 22? Would like to know where I and a certain Extremely Reliable BMW driver rank in. ^^

About the lottery system: Fancy RPing good, confusion bad. From what I'm reading there's no way to extend a contract if you do extremely well (although that might lead to some Renault-hogging), only abrupt termination of contracts if you suck? Sounds like there'd be a lot more shuffling around with both terminated drivers and drivers with simply ended contracts. It's an interesting idea and I'm up for seeing how it works, unless something better comes along for me to bandwagon onto.

What'd be neat would be a complete driver shakeup every season (take the amount of interested drivers, randomly assign them each to a team, etc.) but that would probably be completely insane, and maybe lead to team issues. Like McLaren probably doesn't want to pair with Dubois after this season :p

Just a few thoughts.

CCYoshi's World-Class(tm) 2 Race Wrap-Up

Monaco:
Winner: Haswell, Renault (3 out of 4 wins, not bad. Eventless race, almost wire to wire.)
Silver: Chang, Honda (Equally boring race. First major points score of the year - a breakthrough?)
Bronze: Whitcomb, Renault (Started 3rd, ended 3rd. Goes to show the less that happens at Monaco the better.
4th: Machiels, Toyota (Surprisingly, first points of the year. Toyota doesn't seem to have it quite as much in S7 but they have had a few good finishes)
5th: Horton, McLaren (Could've had a top 4 but a late race collision required a pitstop. Luckily he stayed in the points)
6th: Paajanen, Toro Rosso (Good job working way up field slowly from 12th place start.
7th: Davidson, Honda (Started way in the back and had to pit early due to a driver error, turning a 1-stopper into a 2-stop race. Still scored two points.)
8th: Dubois, Super Aguri (Got Bruce McLaren at the end again for the last point - but this time by force.

Bit It:
Henson (Lap 1): Only way the lower ranking teams seem to get action is by smashing into each other. Collision with Keller, prompt end to race.
Beyens (Lap 31): Having a strangely miserable race anyway, transmission calls it a day. He remains in single-digit points
Smith, Mason (Lap 34): Two completely different yet equally car-destroying brain lapses, one from 4th and the other from midfield.
Orchard (Lap 40): Hi, what's this? A Red Bull in the top 5? *smash* Guess not...
Bathie (Lap 60): Cut the first corner a little too close. No double points score for Toyota.
Domingues (Lap 64): Not the mechanics' fault this time! A collision with Horton in a fight over 4th place - on the losing end again.

'The Bruno and Bruce Show' Award (aka the Deja Vu award):
Once again these two share the bad luck spotlight in the highlight reel. That collison with 14 to go makes Domingues 5 races without a finish and leader in the DNF department. Meanwhile, McLaren loses another point to Dubois in the Aguri - it may not be as clean of a pass as before, but the ruling stood. Tough break(s)!

Defining Moment: All those retirements from points positions - Mason, Orchard, Bathie, and (as always) Domingues handed some points to lower-placing drivers in the field...

Silverstone:

Winner: Davidson, Honda (7th times the charm! Overcame a first-lap technical glitch that hampered him the rest of the way to pull off a stunning, brilliant win)
Silver: Horton, McLaren (Having an excellent season, consistenly near the top in the finish - could've had a win in this one. Another podium will not bring complaints however!)
Bronze: Smith, Midland (Who? Just the next Midland sensation. Never fell lower than 6th.)
4th: Whitcomb, Renault (An average race for the Renault driver. Stayed in the points the whole way.
5th: Domingues, BMW (One word: FINALLY!)
6th: Mason, BMW (Worked his way up the field and eventually brought the second Beemer home right alongside the first)
7th: Hutchinson, Ferrari (A 2-stopper with hard tires the whole way?)
8th: Dubois, Super Aguri (Aguri racks up points one by one. Didn't have to use force this time.)

Kicked It:
Taylor (Lap 12): Gave fans a souvenir present by tossing the rear wing into the bleachers (without injuries) ... during the race.
Paajanen (Lap 17): Messed up at a hairpin from a podium position and got a carload of sand. Brought out the SC.
Machiels (Lap 30): Momentum what? Came into Copse a bit too fast and wrecked it from midfield. Toyota Rule #132: Only one car can finish.
Beyens (Lap 44): Brit belted by disgruntled Aussie Haswell who had fallen deep back in the field. Fans were displeased.

'Fuel Tanker' Award / 'False Hope' Award:
Haswell finally gives other teams a chance by watching his fuel system go wonky on lap 10 and diving into the pits. This was to be his one stop for the race and he loaded up for the next 50 laps' worth of fuel. Not even the Renault could overcome that! Championship lead is now 7 over Horton.

Defining Moment: "The Pass", Penultimate Lap
Home race favorite Davidson simply slingshotted past Horton down the home straight with 2 to go, sending the crowd into a frenzy as the Brit would hang on to pull off a spectacular and jubilant win. Fans were happy again!

Well, I think I found a bug in that race. I’ll have to keep that in mind and change my race strategy accordingly.

Whilst yes it will be an abrupt end to the contract at the team, it will be an expected one, either by not reaching expectations or by contract ending. As long as you join another team for atleast a year, I have no problem with people returning back to their old team afterwards, if there is a space of course.

Yeeeep good couple of races right there, watch out Blake. ;)

Blake, since you are online here and not on BATracer, I'm assuming you're going right over to that (wink wink nudge nudge).

Concerning your new system, Lee, I'm afraid that anyone with an extended contract could end up between a rock and a hard place. For example, let's say your system was already in place, and I managed an extremely lucky 4th at Toro Rosso due to relatively even distribution of points. We all know that there is a lot more luck involved in BATracer than in real life, so if my old expectation of 12th was brought up to 5th or 6th after that 4th place season, I could easily have an average season and get fired, through no fault of my own.

Yep that's a valid point but it pushes you, it gives you an extra dimension to play the game with, not just fighting for the championship, but also your seat. Expectations will be based on the season before BUT it will still keep a hint of realism. Say you example happened, the epectation would probably bump up to around 8th which is pretty realistic for Toro Rosso on the game.

It makes the game harder for experienced racers whilst still giving newcomers a chance.

Right ok I'll use me as an example and show you how it would work:

Season 7 ends, Honda finish 5th in the team standings. Now along with me, everyone gets contracts with their current teams unless they move. Once everyone has a team, contracts are issued using a random number generator (same one used for the lottery). I shall then PM every driver telling them how long their contracts last for and their expectations.

Expectations:

Now these can range from final finishing position, to beating a rival team, to scoring a certain amount of points. Say I got "Must win more than 40 points".

Now Season 8 starts once veryone has their expectations and has signed up, Season 8 goes through and at the end of it all, a review is posted saying who reached their expectations and who failed. Those who failed will have to go find a new team, those who reached expectations have a choice, either join a new team or continue their contract.

If you join a new team..

You will recieve a new contract (Made once again by the random number generator) and new expectations (As does everyone else)

If you stay..

You stay on your current contract but recieve new expectations based on Season 8 positions.

Lets say I stayed at Honda for another season, but alas Honda won the championship! My expectations would have been bumped up to something like "Finish in the top 3 at the end of the season". You then go through Season 9 with the new target, then repeat.

There.
:)
