Montreal-Pre Race Report
Welcome, F1 fans, to the pre-race warmup at Montreal. Today's race looks very promising. We shall see who comes on top today, and who takes the bottom spots on the board.
We had the chance to interview Toyota driver Jarrett Allman before he got into his car. It was very interesting.

SPEED: Today's race looks promising for you. 11th in Qualifying, but still 4th in the warm-up practice round, what are your thoughts on todays race?
ALLMAN: It should be very interesting to say the least. I started out fairly good, got an OK qualifying position, and ended up in the top 5 in the warmup. I feel I'm good to go.

SPEED: After your announcement to switch to BMW Sauber at the end of this season, many of your fans were disappointed, your thoughts?
ALLMAN: I'd like to say I'm sorry to all of my fans that are not too enthusiastic about my move to BMW, but I have stated my reasons for moving, and I feel it's best for me.

SPEED: Many of your male fans are wondering if you're going to have a new grid girl when you go to BMW. What's the scoop?
ALLMAN: Yeah, right. How could I get rid of her?
Jarrett Allman's Grid Girl (She is camera shy, but rumors have it that this is one of her better angles anyways.

SPEED: What do you think will be the outcome of this race?
ALLMAN: I'm betting Blake Haswell will win it off. 1st in Practice, Qualifying, and Warmup. I would say that he will take the cake if he doesn't screw up.

Ferrari Wire-to-Wires at Montreal
But it's not who you think.
As the lights went off Trendell overtook teammate and polesitter Haswell, both in Ferraris to take the lead. He would stay in P1, and quite comfortably, straight through the checkered flag. Behind him though was a musical chairs of cars fighting for the points spots.
On lap 1 Renault's Beyens predictably leap-frogged everyone again from 5th to take 2nd place, and a second back was Horton in the ever-strong Midland and rookie contender Kawasie in the BMW. Haswell had fallen back to fifth after being stunned on the start by the combination of Allman's and Davidson's pitbabes. Meanwhile, in the back Ramos's mechanics made an arse of themselves by starting on wet tires but no one really cared about the Williams team anyway.
The slicing and dicing passing action continues on lap two with Beyens chasing down Trendell, while Kawasie and Horton had a fierce duel for 3rd. Over the next few laps, Soyfu in the Midland continued to charge up the field also.
Eventually by lap 8 the top 5 had settled down, with Trendell leading Beyens, Kawasie, Horton and Soyfu. For no good reason everyone else was already about half a minute behind.
On lap 9 Ramos slammed into Adams in the Aguri in a daring move to steal next-to-last away from him, and nearly gave the leaders a heart attack when they moved to lap them.
Lap 13 saw a rare mistake by Beyens, when he locked up the brakes at the hairpin and took a subsequent nature hike. This would damage his car, although not terminally. Still, his points chances were looking grim as he would quickly lose ground.
On lap 16, 18th-placed Travis decided he was having a boring day and drove his Williams into the wall, tearing off his front wing and ending his day.
Pit stop action ensued soon afterwards and most stops went cleanly. However, on lap 22 Kawasie overshot his pit by about 7 boxes, reversed, and went a clean 10 pit boxes back. The net result was that he was 3 boxes short of his crew and out a lot of time. Luckily, no other car was coming down pit lane at the time.
Edwards in the second Aguri bobbled at the corner which wasn't really there on lap 25, and damaged his nosecone and front wing assembly. He was running 8th before the damage forced him to pit and lose ground. On the subsequent pit stop the mechanics changed the rear wing instead of the front, and then decided to put the old rear wing back on. By this time they had not installed the new nosecone yet, and nearly sent him out before doing so.
On lap 39, Haswell in the second Ferrari was still bobbling around in 5th after a poor start, when Trendell in the leading Ferrari came to lap him. The team radioed in orders for him to pull over, and he did...straight into the opposing wall. It was rather embarassing for the second retirement of the day.
Lap 50 saw the Toyota crew continue it's trend of excellent pit stops with an amazing 20 second delay on Charkaoui's pit stop. We're still not quite sure what happened, but Toyota mechanics tell us it has something to do with a tear in the space-time continuum and a bowl of petunias.
The rest of the race was rather boring as Trendell in the Ferrari ran away with it by more than 25 seconds over Kawasie, who ran away with it over Soyfu by about 35 seconds. Soyfu, in turn, was about a straightaway ahead of Honda's Lee Davidson in 4th.
And of course Lee was eons ahead of 5th placed Horton. In short, there wasn't really any exciting overtaking action at all in the closing laps. Butler, Beyens, and Edwards rounded out the points.

MN: So, it's halfway through the season Yuuji, how's your first season been?
YK: It's been actually very surprising. Honestly, I didn't think I'd been this far up in the front on my first season - maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know. It's been a fun ride though, I'll say. The competition's friendly but fierce.
MN: Any thoughts on rivals - er, championship contenders?
YK: Trying to be subtle there? I know I'm leading the championship, but only by a little. Of course Beyens is a threat, he's been strong all season with 3 wins. I'm really kind of scared of the Ferraris, they're running 3-4 right now and if they have another run like Trendell in Canada...although, I must say. It's kind of funny how if one wins, the other retires. My other dark horse candidate is Hutchinson in the other Renault. He hasn't won any races but he hasn't retired either - very consistent.
MN: And how about your teammate - what do you think of him?
YK: What do you want me to say? I'm not stupid enough to go "Oh, I hate my teammate, he sucks" right on worldwide TV. But seriously though, Chang's a real nice guy. He's very communicative, it feels like he really has that urge to succeed. He's been very fast also, winning one race.
MN: Let's say you could go to any team at all next year. Where would it be?
YK: Well...honestly I'd go with one of the Japanese teams, probably Honda. I figure, they're my home nation and all, it'd be a good match. Maybe Aguri but they haven't been quite as competitive honestly. Renault or Ferrari, everyone dreams of going there but it just doesn't sound right to me. Personally, though, since I'm staying at BMW through Season 4, they're a great team too. Very friendly bunch, I've gotten to know some of the mechanics real well. The package is very fast, I love the speed, reliablility...not so much, especially when Chang and I retired four times in three races, but it's getting better.
MN: We've heard that you're also looking forward to the US GP, any particular reason?
YK: Well, even though I'm Japanese, I live mainly in the US, so it's kind of my home-away-from-home race. Plus, the race track is real nice - very fast, good atmosphere, my kind of stuff.
MN: One final question - how come we haven't heard anything about your pit babe yet?
YK: *laughs* Do I have one? I haven't even noticed. Nah, I don't really do pit babes that much. And no, not 'do' in that way, you dirty interviewing person guy you. I mean, I focus on the racing first. Although, I guess, if I had a really hot one, it would distract the other drivers...I'll have to keep that in mind.

BlakeNah. I dont think V8s have as much meaning as F1 for anyone whos not Australian. Even for some Australians (me), V8s arent entertaining. At all. Except at the endurance races.
I agree. While I'll watch it if it's on. I'm not going to rush home and cry if I miss it. With exception of Adelaide and Bathurst.
11 points seperate the top 4 teams in the teams championship. BMW - 65, Reanult - 61, Ferrari - 61, Midland - 54!
