Been doing iRacing for a year, and just can't take GT6 seriously...

Does anybody else share this issue? GT5 was THE racing game/sim when it showed up. Then I tried iRacing.. and left GT behind. I bought GT6 for old times sake, but just can't get into it. Just wondering if anybody else is the same?
Long time iRacer here. GT6 is just something very different. iRacing is the real business and you need to focus hard. GT6 is for relaxing time, sitting on the couch, drinking a beer and just cruise around. Both these games just serve very different purposes.

Nope, I enjoy pretty much all driving games from the PC sims like Assetto Corsa to console sims like Gran Turismo and Forza. I play the hell out of arcade racers as well.

GT5 was not "THE" racing game/sim when it showed up either, there were PC sims that were more realistic on the market then too. So it is exactly the same with GT6, it is one of the best sims on the console marketplace but jump to PC and there are plenty of other games with better physics.

Nailed it

Did you post this just to see if you're justified in your opinion? If not, nobody is forcing you to play. Take the game back and get a refund if you don't like it.

Actually I posted it because I felt kind of guilty. I own every release GT has put out in the US, and remember how excited I was when I got the first one. I felt that way up until 5. But this one just didn't put me in that mindset and I'm pretty sure it's because I've been so involved in iRacing, it's changed the way I look at GT. I was trying to find out if anybody else was thinking the same way. But so far all I see is a bunch of people hating on me for asking a simple question.

Not really, as a racer in real life, GT 6 actually does a better job capturing the real feeling.

Iracing, though I don't dislike it, is like racing in a very poorly setup car to me. But to be fair, I stick with spec Miata's. So the argument is more about feeling, as I'm between seasons, than it is about math and spreadsheets.

Iracing needs to fix the tire model to be more progressive verse digressive model, a common mistake when trying to force comutational physics from real world math.

Once they get there, and they will... I might live in iracing so no disrespect to those guys.

Not me. Isn't iRacing too "hardcore"? GT6 is basically meant to be a "hardcore and fun" sim for both hardcore and casual fans. Me personality, will take fun sims over hardcore sims.

If iRacing is "hardcore", then GT6 is most definitely NOT "hardcore and fun"; just fun.

I play both. For me GT is a driving sim/game and iRacing is a racing sim.

I love all the cars and tracks in gt6. I also love tuning my cars for hours. GT is also a huge value compared to iracing. Also NURBURGRING.

iRacing is all about competitive online racing. Now that the RUF is out I haven't touched GT6 but I will come back eventually.

Take a deep breath and ignore the nasty comments.
Some replies will never be constructive criticism.

I question anyone who compares a console game to a pc sim. That's what's hard to take seriously.
I do. :sly:

I got talked into the PC sim gig back when GT4 was the hot toddie on PS2, and I had my eyes opened to the more accurate world of sim physics. Toca and Forza were also very good, but since I couldn't afford iRenting and still can't justify it, I stick with what I have.

Now, when GT moved onto PS3, the differences between this "great divide" of PC sim racing and console games became much narrower. Like very little difference narrower. I could still tell the difference when I did a test of my GTRs and Live For Speed with GT5 and Forza 4. But the differences were so minimal that I now shrug off anyone who insists that PC sims blow console racers out of the water.

GT6 is amazing. Yeah, it still lacks a few of the nuances of physics kings like LFS and iR, and now the new kids on the block like Project CARS and Asseto Corsa. But the difference is so small now, who cares? Even Forza 4 shines in many areas which PC sims somehow lack. And both GT and Forza obliterate all other games with the wealth of cars and modifications available.

So basically, race what you like, and don't be a snob about it. Not everyone will agree with people making bold claims one way or another.

I had a full-access/1-year trial to iRacing... There were aspects which I loved but they were overshadowed by the steep learning curve. If you have the wrench turning knowledge, time and patience, iRacing rocks. However, the common gamer will experience significant frustrations due to poor car setups and hardcore physics that often feel like ice-skating vs racing.

GT6 to me offers a good range of fun and difficulty...Just the other night I strolled into a GT3 room in which the guys lapped me twice at Brands Hatch Indy. They were talking tire strategy and comparing set up notes. Loved it!

I can't take anyone who compares console games, which are limited to so many things, to PC games.

iRacing is too serious, especially since I'm just a FAN of racing/cars and I dont actually do it in real life.

i always look at iRacing and the likes as boring games, well i never played them so thats not really fair for me to say. LFS used non licensed cars if im correct right ? thats one of the turn offs for me. maybe i just enjoy driving, tuning and collecting cars, especially cars with certain histories.

^ I agree and cars spin too 🤬 easy:banghead: and recovery is too 🤬 hard. If iRacing was like 100% racing, which no game will ever be 100%. There are 12-14 year old kids driving dirt track cars, but with the physic of iRacing. They would never get around the track and win. They would be spinning around in circles:mad:.

I think a lot of PC people confuse 'difficult' with realistic. And GT is about the love of cars. I am looking forwards to Polyphony stretching their legs on new hardware. Probably won't compare to PC sims, but will compare favourably towards any console competitors.

I had iRacing for a year a while back and the thing that bothered me most about it wasn't the physics, or the lack of off-track features, or even how "hardcore" it was. It was the payment model. I have no problem with free-to-play games that charge per car and track. But to nickel and dime for individual content and ask $100 a year? Highway robbery if you ask me.

I was glad to pay the money for Assetto Corsa, so far it seems to be good, just waiting for 1.0, right now at .4

If you are paying $100 a year for iRacing you are doing it wrong. They constantly have sales, some where you can get a year for $49.

If you get a year at $49 and race 8 times in a 12 week season you can earn up to $10 in credits. So in 4 seasons you can earn $40 plus they give you a $5 annual re-sub credit.

$49 - (4x$10 + $5) = $4 for one year.

I have been playing iracing for a few years now and never payed $100 a year.

I don't even think GT5 was THE racing game/sim when it showed up. iRacing was out then as well. So was rFactor.

I wouldn't even say iRacing is THE sim right now either, competition is pretty hard. rFactor 2, AC.

But one thing I say iRacing is hands down is...online competition. iRacing online competition is the best. But it is not flawless. All you need is one driver on the grid to screw everything up!

Then they should advertise it for $49, not $100. Hell, they should just do away with the credit and charge people straight up whatever they want to charge them. It's unnecessarily complicated.
