wheels cannot be changed on a standard car model.. !!!

Totally baffling. I can't think of a single rationale as to why you wouldn't be able to swap wheels on Standard cars.

I really don't understand all those things about the rims..

purchase new wheels = new aftermarket set
change stock rims = change size (width perhabs) of your stock rims

"You cannot CHANGE the wheels on a Standard Model = You cannot change the size (width) of the stock wheels on your Standard Model... No word about no "new wheels"(aftermarket) on standard models

read twice, easy as that

Maybe the brakes and what not behind the wheel have not been modeled on the standard cars. That means if you replace the standard wheel, you would most likely see just blackness. To save themselves from re-modeling the brake and suspension setup, I think they just said nup, you can't change wheels on the standard car.

I know its sad, but is the most likely story.

IMO standard cars shouldn't be in the game at all, they look utter crap and nobody should say something else. Less work wasted at standard cars the better...

Just look at the standard cars as an added extra, the premium cars are the proper GT5 content and the standard cars are an added extra. It's a shame that it seems you can't change the wheels on standard cars but having the standard cars is better than not having them. I wonder though how many people who were against livery editors and body kits are up in arms about this.

Looks like a lot of anti-standard car bigotry has unfortunately returned to GTPlanet.

Not being able change the rims on a standard car does suck, but only for a split second then I realized the standard car (if it is) I'm gonna drive the most is a Sauber C9 (if it's in).

PD got the right number of premiums down for my tastes.

And to all those who are flipping out cause you can't paint your rim on change your rims on a standard car...chill out...chances are most of you guys will be meddling around with the premiums most of the time, if not all.

If they wanted Standard cars that badly, put them in a PSN GT4 HD where they could at least still have changeable wheels.

and what happens if ...the cars i really like and want to drive arent among the premiums ???..

i have to settle for the facts...

they are a lesser standard, and i cant do anything with them but drive them..

pd could have softend the blow a little by at least letting me customise them... i'd have been happy ( ish ) then.

I too am very disappointed if that means the Standard cars can't use aftermarket wheels. It means there is very little visual modification / customisation at all for them - I can't imagine the aero parts extend beyond the wings offered in GT4, and Race Mods are almost certainly a no-go, visually at least.

However, it has been shown that the Standard cars use the new parts / tuning options and I'm clingin to the hope that they still have aero mods (albeit largely invisible, as per GT4) so, functionally, they are similar to the premiums for driving feel.

I'm hoping that wheels will be a patch somewhere down the line, probably because of differences in the way the aftermarket wheels are implemented in GT4 and GT5.

Of course, I lament the apparent step backwards shown here, but it could so easily have been worse.

Well to be honest I think that in the end after some time playing the game we''ll not care so much about the difference between standard and premium, in the end I mostly care about the car physics, if both prem. and stan. are good enough I'll probably forgive kaz.....
but this is not an excuse for PD, 5/6 years in development and only 200 cars are really worth buying, the rest is simply a slightly improved version of PS2 models... come on....

haha.. you tried to help... good on ya.. and only on your 2nd post...
:D

I just wanna play the dam thing already. So much messing about and delays, some needed and some not. I think the way this has been handled is a disgrace. I hope there's a small amount of body modifiction me personalisation but not to the point of Need for speed. All this waiting and the fact some lucky jammy thief is ruining it for the rest of us. I'm all for information and details about the game, but not to the point of ruining the surprise and excitement you get when you first get to see something special. Its like when you're younger and find your christmas presents before your parents have wrapped them. Its ruined.

honestly... im really glad i got to find these things out before i blew £150 on a signature edition only to find out ive basically been robbed by sony and PD.

sony sold this as having all the NEW features forgetting to say they are limited in the majority of the game...

if i had paid that money then found out.. i would have been much more annoyed.

now im buying the standard edition only... your loss sony.. ill still have the game and play it... you just wont have as much of my money as you were hopeing for...

i really hope that "standard model car" means un-modified

you has reason... maybe it could be a hope...
thet didnt specify Standard cars but standard MODEL cars.... ie race car or similar...
nearly the same meaning like the paint wheels that you cannot paint standard model wheels..

HOPE..........

If all 'standard' cars can't have rim changes and only the 'premiums' do why do they implement it in the game? The only cars I want my wheels changed are the normal roadcars like Miata, MR2, CLK, BMW 330, Civic etc etc. Premiums don't need rim changes if you ask me. I dont want my 20.000.000 credit Ferrari to have aftermarket rims nor my nice supercars like LFA, F430, Veyron etc. Rim changes are for the cars you and I drive every day so that we can make them different then the person next door.

its a hope, i rewatched the menu video... in garage section theres write PREMIUM CARS and STANDARD CARS not standard model cars... could be a huge hope..

i think its a no hoper...

hopefully the guy with the game will test this and let us know.. he has been asked to try the wheels on a standard car.

but he has said.. he does have a life and a wife n kids..we may have to wait a bit for an answer..and fair play to him..he dont owe us anything..

You're in for a rude awakening. Look at the list of cars we know of that are Premium. You'll notice most are expensive cars and race cars, which I agree, don't need different wheels. However they're premium and have this feature.

Now as for your MR2, BMW etc. All these cars you and I "drive every day." Well a hefty amount of those are Standard and do not have the ability to change wheels, which you say are the only cars that you'd want that ability for.

wow i woke up from my nap and read the last 4 pages of this thread and saw that most movies had been removed from the news and all this crap about not modding standard cars . im disapointed really thinking about getting the standard copy instead of the 100 collectors i have preordered. frustrating need for speed and test drive no sim at least more honest it seems ill reserve judgment till i have all three

the whole wheel thing is such a downer....

Does anyone know what the engine block was for in the Auto GT and the last picture with the tuned car?

Everyone, consider what this guy already said:

I really don't understand all those things about the rims..

purchase new wheels = new aftermarket set
change stock rims = change size (width perhabs) of your stock rims

"You cannot CHANGE the wheels on a Standard Model = You cannot change the size (width) of the stock wheels on your Standard Model... No word about no "new wheels"(aftermarket) on standard models

read twice, easy as that

Check out the picture again, it DOES imply a difference between changing the current wheels and buying a new set!

wow so this is pretty bad from what i have been reading. so 80% of the cars are going to look the same no matter what so this is bull...i dont even know how to take this. this is the same game that took 5 years to make and i wont be able to put rims on standard cars. wow i about to put this on the fail tread
i hope to get some clarification about this from pd or sony soon.

If I read this correctly, you can purchase new wheels for all cars, but only Premium cars can keep the OEM wheel, and increase the size/width of them...maybe :)

by wheel they mean rims? or... tires? or.. the combined rim incl tires?

it doesnt look very cryptic..

looks very much like you cannot change the WHEELS if the car is only a standard model. however i bet you can still change the tires, which is the most important.
