That and the seemingly invincible riot shield have put me off this game completely now, I was hoping to get a pre-owned copy eventually but now, it is highly unlikely.

Come now, be a little more reasonable; that level they were running through appeared very narrow, and the folks playing the game were most likely purposely letting the two guys get through to show the game off, or just really poor players (press or something like that). I'm sure the shield eventually "breaks".

And as far as throwing knives go, what's the difference between that and the knife currently in CoD4? You have to bring the knife up in order to throw it, and it only works well when your victim doesn't see you anyway. I doubt you could kill someone with it if they were shooting at you. It doesn't seem like it would be an unfair advantage to be throwing knives.

Hold it, right there!

Not if the game give them the same advantage they give in CoD4 knifing. How many times you put couple rounds in a guy coming at you with a knife, then you die with AK47 in your hands with stopping power still pumping bullets into him?

If a guy can keep running across the room at the shooter, while getting hammered by an full automatic assault rifle, I don't see it affecting someone throwing a knife either. It's messed up, but it is one of the messed up physics in the game.

It's the fact that throwing knives are there, I dare anyone to head into real combat with throwing knives, and yes the shield is likely balanced in some way, but I am willing to bet it is bullet proof for a certain amount of time, and you have to shoot them in the legs/limbs which stick out.

Random noob-tube-esque knife throwing across the map anyone? :p

It would be hilarious if someone randomly throws a knife over a building (I doubt that will be even possible) and it hits some guy in the head on the other side.

It shows how much you know, may like to be 'hardcore', and may think 'gimmicks' are beneath you, but knife throwing in combat, is very real practice.

There's absolutely nothing unrealistic about knife throwing in combat, correct me if I am wrong, but Spetznaz (who are present in Modern warefare) are famous for it. It's not something that they would go charging into combat doing, but it is something they can resort to if required, its part of their training. It's certainly no gimmick to Spetznaz.

You're right, but i would hope that throwing knives require a little more aiming, more like a gun, whereas the combat knife in CoD 4 didn't really have a crosshair. At least throwing knives have tangible distance. The real thing that pissed about knives in CoD4 was how far the guy seemed to be, too far to be able to stab me, and yet he always did.

I think that you can only throw a knife once.. And after you throw it, you won't be able to "knife"(L3) someone. It only makes sense, IMO.

Throwing knives are much different than the "combat" knife...You'd probably have 2-3 throwing knives and then your combat one. Would be nice if you could still throw the combat one as a last resort, but since those aren't balanced there's less chance of the business end doing its business.

I assumed that it was the main knife being thrown in that video. Now, it may be a perk, it may be a special knife that you can equip yourself with.......

Remember, this is Call of Duty. Not a combat simulator or anything. ;)

Any news on whether we can change caliber/ammo on guns like the ACR and stuff? I imagine different load outs would be a better alternative to dumb perks like Deep Impact, etc.

Not that I know of, what I would like to see is a selectable fire rate eg. single, burst and full auto.

I am aware that it is used, but like you said as a last resort, now it will become the new 'pwned' way of playing which people will try to do things like use only throwing knives and melee. I hope they make the knives arc properly to put people off doing it all the time trying to be ninjas. It's an option you just don't need, like putting an ACOG on a sniper rifle.

like putting an ACOG on a sniper rifle.

There is not much wrong about the inclusion of acogs?!?!? They are much easier to use, you can view more distance and move your pointer thing much faster across the screen due to the less zoom. I never found much wrong with the acog, it is better in almost every way for my style of play, I can sit in a building and take an accurate shot or I can zoom in the millisecond I see someone and pop their ass.

The ONLY thing I found wrong about the use of an acog was the increased damage with the barret and the m40. That was just wrong and they should have patched it. I love that I can kill one hit but I still find it unfair to those who prefer the alternative scope.

Whoa step back, I said ACOG on a SNIPER rifle, if you're in ACOG range with a sniper rifle, chances are your to close to be wanting a sniper rifle. This is me referring to a real life situation, I just can't see any real snipers taking there M40s saying hang on, take my 6x scope off and give me an ACOG, they'd ask for a different rifle for that situation.

Yeah, my whole post was referring to sniper rifles 👍.

I can see what you mean with the real life situation, I own a real acog scope and it doesnt zoom to far but with the maps on CoD4 they seemed suitable. No maps were long enough to need a huge zoom, the only map where you would need a normal scope most is crossfire. If they include acogs in MW2 and the maps are really long then it will seem funny. If they also at smaller maps then the acogs might be needed, for example a map like vacant.

PS: Sorry if my post makes no sense but i'm watching TV at the same time :D.

To be perfectly honest, most of the sniper rifles are out of place on most of the maps on COD4, it's just so easy to snipe so it balances in game terms. I mean I'd really like to see someone standing with a Barrett and hold it perfectly still in a combat situation. When you see snipers on COD, partly due to map design, partly due to the games physics, they're usually camping and watching a choke point, or running around 'no scoping' with an ACOG M40. It's extremely rare that you can successfully act like a sniper on COD, picking your shots, sitting far from the action, because the action moves at you so fast even on Hardcore. Granted, camping choke points is a viable tactic, it's annoying but legitimate by real terms, you can see a sniper watching a choke point it makes sense but they use normal scopes. Can you see any soldier even going near a sniper rifle on Vacant except when they're on the outside of the map, watching the open box room on the left flank.

Vacant is a particularly annoying map for this, you just couldn't send a sniper into such a confined map if you had any sense, particularly when the objective is likely inside if you're on the outside, and you certainly don't want to be standing a few metres from an objective as a sniper, not the COD objectives anyway.

I guess what your saying is true, on this game as you said it is all about balancing. They have to make it fair or else the other players will complain, I personally would prefer if the snipers were actually less invincible. If I get shot I would like to have the aim go all weird and the screen blur a bit and being a sniper we shouldnt be able to run down a corridor and somehow not aim and kill someone.

Maybe my argument of vacant was invalid but what I meant using the example of vacant was the short area of dirt out the back. From one side to the other would be perfect for an acog because you have better visibility around the outsides of the scope and also a fine area to move your vision around to shoot.

So really my whole argument was that the acog is better for a shorter and smaller map while the normal scope is better for longer distance types of map.

And mine is that by the time you're within range to validate use of an ACOG on a sniper rifle, you're well into Assault rifle range, where an M4/M16 ACOG would be much, much better, providing a more balanced weapon, as you can not only take those guys out across Vacant, but also defend your flank which will likely be a closer encounter.

I think I summed it up well in our conversation on Windows Live. It would be wrong to say COD isn't tactical, it's just COD tactics, not real life tactics. Would you take an ACOG sniper rifle into combat as a sniper in real life? Probably not, you'd grab an assault rifle, but in COD, you may well take the ACOG sniper due to the ease of use, and you'd still be able to fight up close with it.

^^ agreed

ACOGs on snipers on COD4 is stupid as ****, but they're really fun. 👍

This may sound dumb or trivial to some, but does anybody know if we can we choose our weapon loadout for single-player as well? It gets repetitive to start with an M4 or an M16 all the time.

You can have up to 5 classes(sets) of guns in CoD4 which you can choose anytime during a match. I'm pretty sure they're going to have it on Modern Warfare 2! For example; I can choose either of these during a match:

Class 1
M16
USP. 45
Perk 1
Perk2
Perk3

or

Class2
MP5
Desert Eagle
Perk1
Perk2
Perk3

He said for Single-player, dude.

Oh, well in that case, different missions have guns. In CoD4 you start with a G36C and then an MP5. Then an M4.

Forum questions answered:

Earlier this afternoon, IW_Scriptacus answered some interesting questions regarding MW2!

On Monday, an Infinity Ward Forum member created a thread in which the entire community could contribute questions about Modern Warfare 2 that they would like answered. Despite the thread collecting a large number of replies, it was not known whether a kind member of the IW team would take a few minutes to answer some of them.
This afternoon, or 2:30pm LA time to be precise, the staff member IW_Scriptacus replied to the thread with many of the questions answered. Here's what he had to say:
Source: here »

IW_Scriptacus: As with anything, I can't go into much detail. Apologies in advance for any "non-answers".
Quote: "Will we have a new variety of maps, like one that includes snow?"
IW_Scriptacus: I think you'll be quite pleased with the variety of map styles and locations in MW2.
Quote: "How do Supply Drops work?"
IW_Scriptacus: Supply drops are cooler than any of the speculation I've seen on these boards.
Quote: "Alrighty then, do you feel that the sniping concept in the game has been expanded on greatly? (Ghillie, Sway, Attachments, Number of weapons)"
IW_Scriptacus: I think those that enjoy sniping will find a lot to like in the game.
Quote: "Do you think the game plays/feels like COD4? Or does it just feel different?"
IW_Scriptacus: It definitely feels the same from a movement and control perspective. Beyond that, I'll say that after playing MW2 it's really hard to go back to COD4.
Quote: "Do you feel that riot shields fit in comfortably? I am really worried about them :/"
IW_Scriptacus: The riot shields are awesome. Keep in mind that all of the MP designers play a ton of different MP games and have been doing so for years. We're not designing in a vacuum here.
Quote: "Can we expect to rank up at a pace similiar to CoD4? Also, are there any incentives to prestiging in the new game?"
IW_Scriptacus: I'm confident that people who prestige won't regret doing so.

As expcected IW_Scriptacus has been very complimentary about the game (Well, he's hardly going to point out the games flaws, if there's any, on his workplace's forum is he!) and has provided us with a few hints towards MW2.

Here's a quick summary:

* Some form of rewards for players who prestige
* Supply Drops will function in a way that works better than theories regarding it may suggest
* Riot Shields will be flawed and therefore balanced
* There should be a treat in store for snipers
* It handles in a very similar way to CoD4 but is better overall

Sounds all very good, at least the riot shield is fair and balanced.
