You can certainly drive it without spinning or crashing, but doing so and running a respectable time can be a formidable challenge, depending on the car.
Quite a bit of practice will be in order.

Like many others who have commented here, I logged a huge number of laps in GT4 on the Nurb, in a variety of cars.

One of the best practice exercises for this track is in GT4, Mission 34 (I think thats the number) with the Mclaren Mercedes.

Recently, I ran the GT5 Nurb 24 hrs in the Mazda 787B. (stock + oil change HP + RS)
Pitting every 3 laps for tires, at lap 55 I ran what felt like a near perfect unassisted fastest lap of 7:35.494.

I only came within 3 secs of that lap a few times the rest of the race.
(Which ended for the 2nd time at almost 17 hrs because of a power failure.
I wish PD would hurry it up already with the race save feature.)

There were still quite a few laps of spins and crashes, particularly during the night portion.
I finally realized I had to back off, running at night.

I find the ring is most fun with a 250 -300 bhp FR car on comfort softs.....

I can do it in a CT230R, which is fast, hard and clinically insane, so everyone can get around the Nurburgring in something like it, or less.

If you follow the simple rule of "slow in, fast out" you should be fine with every car on the nurburgring. And relaxation is key, even if you are in a race, the minute you freak out, you lose sense of speed which then makes you end up in grass. The more you practice on this track, the lesser you'll brake on corners.

Nurb during the day is one thing, Nurb at night, completly and utterly different, then again, even more different in the rain and worse yet, Nurb at night in the rain. Its one of those tracks that you cant rely to heavily on the lights to guide you. You really need to know it like the back of your hand in order to succeed at night... I think I might go tackle it at night right now...

I do crash there quite regularly as I haven't had that much practice on it yet, it takes 10 mins to do one lap as opposed to 2 minutes for another track for example. So in the time it takes me to do a lap of Nurburg I'd have lapped the other track 5 times which is why the Nurburg is probably my downfall. Would take too long to ace that track

For some strange reason I drive better at night in the ring XD (well in this lap I got distracted and went to the grass at the end of the lap D: )

I would recommend having a couple of cars that you only use when racing on the nurb as it makes your life easier.
I dont think the nurb is a green hell but a petrol heads heaven as it highlights every single flaw in the cars setup.
Because of the amount of laps it is one of my more competitive tracks as a clean lap is easy with a good setup

^ What he said.

Although I try it frequently in a variety of cars with a wide range of performance, and tires. Doing it on Comfort treads is particularly annoying, so I only do it to challenge my patience. Most of us want to fly around the thing like a cruise missile - or like Jeremy Clarkson pretends to, after all. :D

One of my best online races at the Ring, am not bad at it now.

This was with racing soft as that is what the public room allowed, no assists, using a wheel.

Most of you guys are on racing softs, which is EXTREMELY easy to do on Nurb. Come on now.

400hp+ cars with sport mediums or less is another story...

Am happy to do it on sport or comfort tyres, that replays just happened to be racing soft as the public room required it.

It isn't that hard a track, just takes practice. If I was able to learn a 38 mile track 18 odd miles is easy!

I can do it without crashing probably 75% of the time. The 25% is when i try to push it beyond my driving capabilities.

I'm pretty good with cars between the 400 and 550PP range, but when it gets a bit above that PP and using Sports Medium/Soft tires,it gets a bit dicey at times.

I still enjoy the track,i just wish i knew it inside and out.

lol, if you think the nurburgring is hard, try the targa florio or machwerk on PC racing sims. 40 minute lap times for most sports cars.....

Wow.

Now that is crazy. Are they basically just a point to point track?

I like how Jay Leno put it. "The Nurburgring is the automotive equivalent to golf." The more you drive it the better you'll get at it then you'll become addicted to it and therefore love it like the rest of us :D . Although trying to drive a McLaren MP4-12C is like trying to fly an F15 fighter underwater.

I can drive through with no wrecks most of the time, it all matters on what car you're using in my opinion. High powered RWD = bad idea. :p
