After playing about 2 hours of Assetto... GT6 feels like a kids toy, I don't even have the graphics or G27 optimized yet (hint maybe for some help ;)

This are my G25 settings. Try them if you want:

Overall Effects Strength: 100% || Spring Effect Strength: 100%
Damper Effect Strength: 100% || Enable Centering Spring: On
Centering Spring Strength: 100% ||Report Combined Pedals: Off
Degrees Of Rotation: 900º
Gain: 50% || Filter: 0% || Damping: 0%
Kerb Effects: 80% || Slip Effects: 20% || Brake Gamma: 3.70

Still need to mess around with kerbs value as it is a bit strong at the moment. Also sometimes under braking the feel isn't great. Will have to dedicate a full weekend on tweaking that.

With that supercomputer I don't think you'll have to do a whole lot of optimizing. :)
But you could ask here, and I'm sure you'll get help. Oh and welcome to the "Dark Side" as Johnny called it. :lol:
 
Maybe the thread title wasn't the clearest. It's meant as a thread for hw/video stuff for mostly AC but also general hw stuff. I changed the title and OP description. :)
 
I've been jumping between AC (for my own pleasure) and GT6 (to race with friends) a lot these past few weeks, and the differences become more astounding everytime I make the switch.

When going back to GT6, everything feels disconnected, I feel like the car is hovering above the tarmac. There seems to be a lot less feedback/information of what the car is doing, less sense of weight, less progressive tyre slippage and what has started to bother me a lot - overly aggressive driving is rewarded.

My driving style used to be quite aggressive, but since getting deeper into PC sims, that driving style has become a lot calmer and smoother. This is what I find to be the fastest in games like AC, with delicate and calculated inputs, which work fine for GT6, but then if I start driving like a lunatic, GT6 rewards that with equal or faster lap times and the tyres cool down very quickly. In comparison, if I do the same on AC, the lap times are equal or slower, but the tyres soon overheat and they stay cooked for much longer, making it more difficult to drive and slowing you down everywhere. You really have to back off to get them down to good temperatures again.

I sure hope all of the above and other similar missing or lacking atributes are seen to with GT7 on the PS4, no more blaming the hardware this time.

This sums up my thougths exactly. I find my driving style much more calm and precise with AC.
 
I'm about a month into switching from console based simulation to PC based. I was advised to try Assetto Corsa first and that is all I have tried so far. There is a lot more involved in setting up and running on a PC than with a console. I have a lot of PC experience so I can handle it but it takes a fair amount of time. I have added SimVibe and Fanaleds to the mix which adds to the capability but each have their own learning curve.

The quality of the driving experience is much higher with Assetto Corsa then it is with GT6. Several of the things that are quite obvious.

1) The change in front end loading as you drive up and down hills in Assetto Corsa is very obvious and distinct, not so much so in GT6.

2) Road surface effects are quite apparent in Assetto Corsa not so much so in GT6.

3) Tire temperature and wear are very noticeable in Assetto Corsa, not noticeable in GT6.

4) The tactile experience using SimVibe with Assetto Corsa is much greater and more accurate that using the low frequency audio feed in GT6.

5) The overall visual impact of GT6 is superior to Assetto Corsa. It is amazing what GT6 can crank out of limited hardware. Assetto Corsa is visually adequate and doesn't hinder the racing experience.

The total impact is a much more realistic simulation of driving.

If PD can breath the same kind of life into audio and physics.. my oh my, what a franchise GT can be. I still don't think they're taking the competition seriously. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they consider they have no competition.. which seems to be the case with GT5 and 6...

When you think about what they were able to achieve on the PS3, and imagine the same level of attention paid to the rest of the game...the potential is crazy. I think they hit upon a formula that works for them and they'll stick to it. A visually beautiful but not so serious game that appeals to the casual gamer and has just enough to appeal to a smaller number of diehards, but doesn't quite cut it for the admittedly much smaller, "sim" audience. As much as I love AC at the moment, to me the game with the most potential ever is Project Cars. If they can iron out the bugs and get the FFB, physics and AI right, it promises to be the platform of choice for anyone looking for the ultimate (so far) combination of looks, feel, and consequently immersiveness. My hope is that they expand the focus of the garage into more ordinary, every day cars and sports cars, the kind of classics we know and love, the Countach's, the 2000GT's, the Supras etc.
 
I have also built a gaming pc so that i can continue to use my G27. Instead of throwing money at a ps4 and thrustmaster t300. Massively impressed With AC. Always been a bit of a GT fanboy but since AC i can only see the negatives in GT6. AC is better in every way, especially the handling and sound. And career mode? Well... I'm 4 races in and struggling to gold the TT and race in the alfa!? When could you ever say GT gave us THAT after 3 Events?! The AI are properly quick and you don't crash into the back of them in the braking zone, it's more like trying to hold onto em. Graphics are immense on this GTX 970!! Bloody love this game and no i won't be going back to GT6 or maybe even GT7! AC IS THAT GOOD! Cannot Praise it enough. This Game has made the whole jump to PC Worth it. Glad to be able to share this with GTP

In some ways, the deficiencies of AC have also shown what GT got right. I always thought GT's online tools could use improvement but they are light years ahead of AC's incredibly basic online experience. Hell, in AC you have to shut down the server just to change lap count, never mind changing cars or tracks. You can't spectate a race, and if you're on track you can't even see the chat. And the fact that you can show up late and join mid-race is a bit odd. Even simple things like changing your helmet/outfit aren't available in AC, and you only get to choose from a handful of paint/livery options for each car instead of being able to paint it to your favorite color scheme. And the finish of a race in AC is really a non-event, no checkered flag or crowd cheering or results screen, just a simple line of text saying "session finished". These all seem like minor things, but their absence does detract from the overall experience. (Oh, and I think the AI in AC is a major disappointment, not much better than GT and really not much joy in racing them, for me anyway. R3E's AI on the otherhand.......incredible!).

But, overall, AC does show what GT could have achieved if they had their priorities right. AC's not perfect, and it's not my favorite, but it does make GT look a bit amateur in some ways. Hopefully in a year's time AC will start to show it's real potential, while GT7 will likely continue to use chase-the-rabbit formats, cars without interiors, and focus more on hot-lapping than racing.

Agree on most points but this is actually pretty neat. If you're doing a bit of an enduro late comers can actually catch up. I got DC'd on the warm up lap in a race and caught up to 9th (of 20) in a long GT3 Race. All because I could rejoin and start from the pits, catch half a lap before they actually started and then the rest in the race. :D

A driving game, be it a sim or not, ain't a driving game without road cars. :D
 
Wow i said i was struggling with the opening Alfa TT... Well, after a little surfing i realised i was driving all wrong added the tyre debug to screen and saw i was boiling my tyres. I tried going nice and steady nursing them in on the first lap then gradually increasing energy, all the time trying to keep the fronts from below 80 degrees. Before i knew i'd suppased to points requirement for gold even though my lap time was 3-4 seconds slower than when i was thrashing it GT6 style.
Like it even more now because i never liked the way GT rewarded over aggressive driving and tyre abuse. It's a whole new ( realistic ) world.

You mean it's not your kind of game. Sims tend to have a more narrow focus than what I would generally call "games", which often aim for the widest target possible.
 
A sim with road cars included is a well-rounded and nicely packaged game. There's no rulebook or textbook explanation that says a sim should ONLY have race cars.
 
I tried AC once... With a keyboard since i dont have a wheel :lol: and to top it off, my pc doesnt support dx11 so i had to go the long ways and set the game for dx10.

So there i was sliding and understeering every corner on a circuit surrounded by trees made of cardboard boxes.

Actually, there's a bit of a flaw with the time trials. It's based on your improvement per lap, so on your first lap you want to hit the check points with just a couple seconds left, on the next lap a few more seconds left, etc. So basically drive like grandma the first two laps, then start giving it the beans and you'll get gold every time.

Exactly, pace your first couple laps a bit slow, with a slightly better 2nd lap. Than give it one or two hot laps = gold.

Grid 2 and Dirt 3 are the only PC driving sims I've played, and they were pretty damn realistic. Exciting and real engine sounds, masterful physics. And offroading in Dirt 3 was awesome, being able to crash through barriers was an awesome experience. Thing is, I go to Gran Turismo for the fun, Dirt/Grid for the realism. While PC sims are fun (duh) they can be sometimes too challenging for me. I don't know. Coming from a guy who's playing on a keyboard.

Playing on a keyboard IS really challenging, I'll give you that. :) Try upgrading to at least a joypad and you will find it much easier for sure.

I agree, they have never really gone above "simcade" physics, even in their F1 and TOCA games. That's not to say that stops them being enjoyable to play however.

I've been playing through and enjoying Ridge Racer Unbounded this week as it was £2 during the Steam Sales, and that's pure arcade racing with cars stronger than the skyscrapers they race between. (Also loading times are instant, how they hell did they do that? Click start event and you are racing in less than 1 second!)
