"Car of the Month - November"
Maserati Gran Turismo S '08
15646684755_37d506dbc0_z.jpg

When you think of Italian Sports cars, if I were to say beautiful looking design that catches the eye, it is likely that a Ferrari or Lambo would come to mind. For some it may even be a Pagani, but for me it is the Gran Turismo S by Maserati. Not many high end sports cars here in North Jersey as the roads, traffic and hills make them difficult to enjoy, but I have seen more than one of these on the road and they look even better as they go by. In my opinion, it is not used enough or seen as much as it should in GT6, so let's give it some love!

Feel free to post your tune or tunes for this car, or to review those posted! You may also give your thoughts on this car, and whether or not one of these tunes have changed your opinion for better or worse. Like the DB9 and XKR-S, it can have flat floor added and turned into a Touring Car. I will be hopefully posting a normal tune and a "TC" tune for this one.

Enjoy :)

Notes :
The Maserati Granturismo S has always been one of my most loved sports car :)

The weight for a start has been replicated to that of MC Stradale 2013 model, 80 kg lighter than base Granturismo S, while still maintaining the excellent balance at 48/52.

Power and torque has received some improvement in real life, at 460HP and 53 kgm of torque, the replica has both figure replicated.

The 6 speed transmission has also been fixed to replicate real life MC Stradale 2013 specification :
Real life MC Stradale 2013 gear ratio
3.21
2.05
1.44
1.11
0.90
0.76
Final - 4.184

Max speed on every gear, km/h / mph :
1st 75 / 47
2nd 118 / 73
3rd 168 / 104
4th 218 / 135
5th 269 / 167
6th 318 / 198 - real life test top speed

The GT6 replica is as close as possible to replicate the gearing, with max speed on each gear closely replicated, including top speed.

For LSD, a special model is used, Quaife ATB Competition differential, with high initial torque to give smooth response delivery, and high locking rate on drive side giving excellent traction which Quaife is famous for.

Suspension comes from a special model made by FORTUNE AUTO, the 510 Series Generation 4 Racing Coilover Kit with custom SWIFT Springs.
The 510 Series Gen 4 featuring Fortune Auto's new Ultra Double Digressive Piston ( UDDP ) with updated shim stacks, the Digressive piston allows for high low speed rebound force that effectively control dive, pitch and roll. The rebound force also greatly tapers off to provide the driver with a supple and compliant ride while maintaining superior mechanical grip over rough surfaces.
The replica has 14kg/10kg spring rate with optimal lowered ride height and damper + ARB tuned for exceptional balance.

The Maserati was tuned and test at Tsukuba, Brands Hatch GP, Bathurst, Ascari, Laguna Seca, Trial Mountain, Nurburgring GP/F and Nordschleife.

The car may feel tight to some, this is expected :D, be smooth with steering, brake and throttle when driving on comfort soft, and the car should glide in and out with no drama :)

ENJOY

UPDATE : Fixed weight figure and distribution based on Maserati Official Brochure :D, the tune also tested with improve body rigidity installed, and it drives great at Nordschleife on Comfort Soft.

UPDATE 1.09 onwards : Added Maserati Street Alignment Range as optional.

Alternative Color and Wheel as posted on the tune - Mineral White and OZ Wave with Black Diamond Tricoat.

Notes :
The Maserati Granturismo S has always been one of my most loved sports car :)
I decided to use Fortune Auto coilover as the single rate suspension and adjustable damper setup information of the real MC Trofeo is unknown. Nevertheless, this replica managed to replicate the 2013 lap time at Silverstone GP very closely.

Weight is at 1450kg ( 50kg heavier ) as I wanted to replicate the real weight distribution, and this does not affect the target lap time that I wanted to replicate at all. Also included above is 2014 power figure at 500HP, simply use 100% power limiter. Improve body rigidity is mandatory this time, as it's beneficial when racing tires are fitted. Any road cars in GT6 can use racing tire with no issues, all it takes is proper body rigidity level and suspension + LSD tuning to make the whole package works in harmony :D

For LSD, a special model is used, Quaife ATB Competition differential, with high initial torque for competition level and high locking rate on drive side giving excellent traction which Quaife is famous for.

Suspension comes from a special model made by FORTUNE AUTO, the 510 Series Generation 4 Racing Coilover Kit with custom ID 65 SWIFT Springs.
The replica has 18kg/14kg spring rate with optimal lowered ride height and damper + ARB tuned for exceptional balance on sport soft tire ( racing hard slick equivalent IRL ) and racing hard ( racing medium slick IRL )

The Maserati was tuned and tested at Tsukuba, Brands Hatch GP, Bathurst, Ascari, Laguna Seca, Trial Mountain, Silverstone GP, Nurburgring GP/F and Nordschleife.

When tested at Silverstone GP, the car ( 488HP ) was capable of easy 2:12s lap on sports soft and my best test lap was 2:10s, the real life pole lap in 2013 was 2:11.5xxx on racing hard slick tire, done by gentlemen driver, which a pro driver would be capable of 2:10s - so this replica is pretty darn close.

Andrea Cecchellero secured his first ever Maserati Trofeo pole position after a tough battle with Renaud Kuppens.

The young Italian’s time of 2:11.550 was 0.201 faster than that set by the reigning champion and favourite for the Trofeo Europa to be awarded here at Silverstone.

I decided to use Fortune Auto coilover as the single rate suspension and adjustable damper setup information of the real MC GT4 is unknown. Nevertheless, this replica managed to replicate lap time at Silverstone GP

Weight is at 1425kg based on 2009 SRO European GT4 BOP ( Balance of Performance ) with 51/49 distribution as on real GT4 car. I have provided 2 power level, one at full non limited power at 449HP, calculated based on SRO 2009 BOP - 13% power reduction = 390HP.

For LSD, a special model is used, Quaife ATB Competition differential, with medium-high initial torque for competition level and high locking rate on drive side giving excellent traction which Quaife is famous for.

Suspension comes from a special model made by FORTUNE AUTO, the 510 Series Generation 4 Racing Coilover Kit with custom ID 65 SWIFT Springs.
The 510 Series Gen 4 featuring Fortune Auto's new Ultra Double Digressive Piston ( UDDP ) with updated shim stacks, the Digressive piston allows for high low speed rebound force that effectively control dive, pitch and roll. The replica has 18kg/14kg spring rate with optimal lowered ride height and damper + ARB tuned for exceptional balance on sport soft tire ( racing hard slick equivalent IRL )

The Maserati was tuned and tested at Ascari, Silverstone GP and Bathurst, on lowest power 390HP, it can lap in 2:14s at Silverstone GP, similar to real life performance. With full 449HP, it should lap in 2:12s range easily.

ENJOY

@Bowtie-muscle

In the weekend free time, please count me in for some reviews:
If time allows, will do more... 👍

PS: @shaunm80 - No reviews for you this time! :P
No worries, you did enough reviews of the Maserati tunes in my own thread, If its okay with @Bowtie-muscle I would like to link to them from here so anyone reading this thread knows what has been mentioned already about them?

Feedback copied from my garage which links to the cars I have posted above from @cbarbosa

Maserati GranTurismo S '08 (GT3 Version)

600PP
669 BHP
1355kgs
Weight Distribution 49:51

IA License|550PP (600PP) WTCC Mount Panorama|Winner! 👍

First version tested (Racing Hards) - Great driving car. Steering has enormous precision and responds perfectly. Huge top speed, in MP you get to 300Kmh in a blink of an eye!! :P The car has so much torque that some throttle attention is needed exiting slow corners...

Other then that, a proper GT3 car... Will leave feedback for other 2 versions later...

Maserati GranTurismo S '08
600PP

669 BHP
1355kgs
Weight Distribution 49:51
Sports Soft Tyres

SS!? Did I changed the tyres!? :P Jokes aside, it was exactly like the RH version, same performance, speed and stability. Sometimes changing tyres to a tune kills it, but not the case here... 👍

Makes me wonder if there are any siginificant diferences between SS and RH... :odd:

Maserati GranTurismo S '08 (Full Aero Version)
550PP
466 BHP
1355kgs
Weight Distribution 49:51
Sports Soft Tyres

Despite being 50PP less then the other 2 versions, is still very performant. Indeed performant! For a car that got stripped from almost every engine upgrades, boy, she is still fast... The only issue I detected was that, by using the Final Gear from the tune, in MPanorama it runs out quickly on the straights... But that was my choice for the 1st test run...

It's great to have alternatives to the main version, especially when they can perform almost as the same... 👍

@Bowtie-muscle - Thanks for letting me repost these here. Saves @cbarbosa from having to retype it all. :)

Man some of you guys are  fast, I saw this thread pop up this morning, come back home from work, and before I could even think of buying the car there's like 10 000 000 tunes posted. Nice to see you back again with some tunes @shaunm80 , and @Ridox2JZGTE, and it's really great that @cbarbosa can squeeze some time to do some reviews. As for  @xande1959, I am expecting you to pop one up within the hour:ouch:. And what is that I read from a few posts up, my good mustache friend (@DolHaus) may have time to participate to this madness, that would be great:tup:. It's also quite honorable of you mister @Bowtie-muscle to find the time to continue this sequel:bowdown:. I do hope we will see some new and old faces throw in some tunes. As for me, I don't know if I will have time to do both reviews and tune, I will see how it goes trying to tune this:scared:, if after scraping three cars :embarrassed: I can't get it right, I'll take the easy way out and just do the reviews. To all of you .

Never recalled it was a mess  My replicas were built long ago ( Feb/March 2014 ), I think before 1.08 and they drive like a dream with broken camber  I drove the car regularly on every version up to 1.09, and I won't say there's a fix.

My memories of the Granturismo when I first encountered it was that it had masses of entry understeer and then would suddenly switch direction and oversteer, seems far more manageable now though

Was the car stock or tuned ? Anyway it may have understeer for various reasons :)

This was for the MC Stradale :

Great replica driving pleasure. Then, I've lowered the weight at 1320 kg, BB 5/6, Camber 0, FG 4800 => Super Class - Ascari 10 laps - Winner! :sly: 👍

and the MC Trofeo :

Ran it on SS tyres, no changes, Winner, of course. WONDERFUL MACHINE! 👍

OK. Please, no more copy / paste! :scared:

Update: Excellent @ Silverstone!

The reviews were shortly posted after the replicas were published back in March 2014. Unlike the LMS Ultra Phoenix GT3, that was a real mess  Now I wonder how the car drives on 1.13 :P

The LMS Phoenix is still an unpredictable mess

Well I never thought I would actually post one up, I was just telling @ DolHaus that I would be writing a tuning guide called "1000 Ways To Not Finish A Tune". I can't remember the last time I posted one, anyways here it is, good thing that I'm not going to review this one, I'd probably convince myself that I should stick to Mario Kart.

I did this quite fast, in fact I didn't even compare time laps between the changes, did everything I vowed not to do, so I'm pretty much doomed to end up in 'CAR HELL'. To those adventurous hearts who want to try this, be warned, Mister S does not like bumps, full throttle before reaching the apex, turning, and will sometimes for no absolute reason lose total control ( maybe the driver could be the reason), but it's really good as a decorative piece in a driveway.

Since it was tuned to the same PP level as some of the Corvettes I reviewed from the previous month, I decided to see if it could compare to them, the fastest lap on Deep Forest with the Corvettes was 1:17.716, on the third lap with Mister S, I did 1:17.430, stopped after the 5th lap when I did 1:17.135 , but it really wasn't the safest ride I have had, it felt more like rodeo time:scared:.

Picture 3.png

So that now this is out of the way, I'll be doing some reviews starting next week, until then  to all of you.
