Not sure about how insurance work in other countries, but in Denmark, car insurance does not cover any damage obtained on a race track.

The purpose of a racing sim is to get away from all the dreary practical aspects of being an automotive freak. You want it to simulate the looks, sound and physics of a car because you want to feel the thrills of owning a your dreamed car and rack as many miles as you wish with it. Would you be happy if racing games simulated the wheels of your car getting stolen? Or simulate how people scratch your car out of sheer envy? Or if it simulated that feeling of "I'd take my car out today but I don't have enough money for the petrol"?
When you go to a trackday in GT5, or any current racing game I'm aware of, you take your car and drive it until the tyres are worn and the fuel is gone. Then you pit, and they're changed. Would you rather have a menu to pop up saying "Not enough credits to change tyres to: Lexus LFA. Returning to garage" and then grinding or doing whatever to earn enough money again to pay for a frickin' set of tyres??? It'd make high-levelled racing unbearable!!!
I think game needs a damage repaire costs included. And realistic costs. Like if you scratch your mini pooper its just a couple of grands, but if you crash your Mark IV going 200mph down the mulsanne, be ready to shell out some millions. And for online as well. I think this would geatly encourage clean driving.
I agree with your statement, but having a boring career mode like GT5 have just left us with tons of money to spare. And some of us like the idea to have EXACTLY the same experience as real life on the game, some costs included.
That's the difference from real life: In GT5 you can win 500.000 in 5 minutes. Try that in real life.
GT5 doesn't offer us much of a challenge. It's a bit slow at the beginning but as soon as you earn 300.000 credits, the real challenge is almost gone.
Why have cars that are more fuel-efficient and use less rubber? Even in endurance races... having to pay for the running costs would make things a lot different. You wouldn't choose a super-fast-gas-guzzler-tire-eater if you don't have enough budget for it. The car choices for good races would demand a lot more attention and strategy.
I would LOVE that. And btw, GT4 had a little thing that I liked, the fact that you paid to enter any track to drive, even small as 4-5 credits, but you had to pay. That is authentic, you simply don't go to your local racetrack and say: hey dude, open the doors for me.
What about B-Spec? Imagine yourself having to negotiate contracts with better Bob's, and their salaries and sponsorship? That would be epic, and give B-Spec one more reason to exist. Soccer (Football for me) games like Fifa and PES have those features and that doesn't make them worse games, make them better. I think it would suit GT5 pretty well.
Before they find new ways for us to spend money, they first have to make making money fun. We need a completely overhauled A-spec asap.
