My workmate sent my this video of a GT race at Oulton Park in the heavy rain... luckily no-one is badly hurt, although it's an expensive pile of cars!

It looked like it had been raining for a while. Why were they still on slicks? It doesn't look like a sudden downpour.

Well you'd think that with wet tyres they'd be able to slow down. Also the tyres pretty much look like slicks.

They were on slicks, apart from the Lister Storm that managed to get through.

Woah, that's a couple of million quid at least in wrecked racing cars right there.

And that marshall that got clipped by the Viper? He's lucky if he got away fairly unscathed..

WOW

The owner of those 2 Saleens must have cried himself to sleep the day he got the bill for that wreck. :scared:

Both marshalls were completely okay. No-one was even injured in any of that. The Saleens were team-mates but, worse, the white car was a borrowed tub - the owner (who happened to also be driving it) had to buy it in full after wrecking it...

There's actually no excuse that race was still being run. The stewards should have red flagged it with that much water on the track.

And yeah, the marshall that got clipped by the Viper was one lucky d00d.

30s before the video started, the track was bone dry. It literally monsooned it.

Both those marshals were incredibly lucky. So much twisted machinery, too.

It looked like one of our Floridian summer storms there for a moment, just buckets of rain.

I would hate to be in the first Saleen and seeing the other one coming and not being able to do any thing. At least the marshal was able to run.
A question: Was the Viper driver in the car when the TVR came crashing through? I thought it was rather funny that the Viper's door closed when the TVR was about to hit it.

Have you ever seen plastic bodied (which I believe all of those cars are fiberglass) in an impact? Carbon fiber is even better: if the stresst levels go pass the tolerance, it explodes and shrapnel rains down like it came from a grenade.

I finally watched it last night, awesome video. The marshall was very lucky, the back of the car almost got his head.

try carbonfibre, glassfibre, plastic composites etc.. aerospace grade stuff mostly. after all, those cars are built with speed and lightness in mind. and because they don't have the regular sturdy chassis around them to protect the driver, they have strong rollcages, six-point belts, bucket seats, plexiglass windows.. you name it, they have it.
