codemasters f1 vs gt5

I don't think it's accurate to say Grid 'strikes a good balance between all things we like in a racing game', given how it's completely unrealistic and undriveable for someone with a wheel, so that rules out anyone who's into sims. Whilst I agree that F1 CE is slightly 'dry', it does have pretty extensive set up options, so I'm not sure where you're basing your opinion on it from.

As for those expecting F1 2010 to be arcade rubbish, I feared this for a long time but recently i've come to believe that it won't be for a few reasons:

A - They've openly come out and said that the handling of this game is tailored to a very different audience to that of Dirt and Grid. Whereas in previous interviews about Dirt 2 they've tip-toed around the sim vs arcade question and given the typical PR answer of 'both', now they insist they're aiming for realism, but that they want to present it in a fun way that makes it accessible. That is fair enough.

B - With the sheer amount of detail they've gone into in creating the track surface - rubbering in the racing line, marbles off the racing line, the track being green at the start of the weekend and getting faster as it progresses, drying lines, cooling your tyres off the drying line, tyre wear, tyre blisters, tyre graining, flatspots (these have all been confirmed in the game), taking data from race engineers and using Anthony Davidson as their consultant - it'd be pretty pointless doing all of that if they were to turn around and make it handle like Grid again.

C - Several members of the Codemasters forum were at the press event unveiling the game and play tested it, all with wheels and the feedback has been very positive. What is clear from everyone who played it is that the handling is completely different to that of Dirt/Grid etc.

I agree, but im still careful, Codemasters made too much wrong this gen.

Agreed there recent offerings have been very disappointing but I have to admit, what I have seen so far has left me with the hope they can provide an F1 game that is long overdue.

That's what the Forza series is - an insolent pretender to GT's throne. It may be doing well now, but it will get it's arse kicked when GT5 is released. Heh heh.

It better kick Forza's ass, considering it has been in development for twice the time, with $60 million spent on it.

I'll be a little bit annoyed if F1 gets out before GT5; especially so if it turns out to actually be a decent sim. On the other hand, at least we'll HAVE a decent sim. I just hope that if Codemasters included G25 support, that means FULL support, as well. GRID's handling was unplayable for me, and DIRT 2 had the same problem, but added to that was the presentation; it just lost me... I couldn't believe that these were the same people who made Race Driver 3!

No matter how simulation (and I'm hoping for one) F1 2010, it still is just that: an F1 game. Even when both GT5 and F1 2010 are out in the market, you'll be able to go to both when you feel like playing whichever suits your fancy. I'm not expecting GT5 to have many F1 cars, so this will be a great substitution if the physics live up to it.

Don't get me started on Forza 3! Hate that game, HATE IT! U know wht it reminds me of? In the Pixar movie 'Incredibles', at the beginning there was a kid who dressed up and wanted to team up with Mr. Incredible, and the main man told him to sod off. Turns out the kid grew up and became the films baddie. That's what the Forza series is - an insolent pretender to GT's throne. Sounds like you hate it because it rivals GT, not because it isn't any good. Also, I didn't realise a computer game could behave insolently.

It lets you put the V8 out of a Z06 into an Aveo, which you can also convert to rear wheel drive. Name something you can do in GT that is better than that.
Feel the cars properly as you race. :sly:

I still like Forza, though all because of the amazing customization and liveries you can create. If not for that, I'd have sold my 360 rig long ago. I still want to fire it up sometime, though just to make some race cars. AFTER I get my capture card. Turn 10 screwed the photo mode system horribly. It's so completely like Microsoft to make something which should be simple a test of sanity.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned earlier in this thread, if not then another, that Slightly Mad Studios - thank you Golfman - should run screaming from EA before they ruin their reputation completely, and make a real racing game. Now that would be something to lust after. Especially if it offers a variety of classes of racing.

I'll have to go with the naysayers on Grid and Dirt. Codies seems to always frook up wheel drivers for some reason, which is why I dropped TRD3 halfway through the career. You get faster and more powerful cars, and eventually it's just too messed up with a wheel controller, at least on Playstation. And Grid was just arcade through and through. Amazing damage implementation though.

I won't say I'll ignore F1, but I'm going to wait for a number of impressions to trickle in, because Codemasters is just not all that and a bag of chips anymore. Especially on a wheel.

As an online discussion about Gran Turismo 5 grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Gran Turismo 5 or Forza 3 approaches 1.

No mainly because GT5 is delivering to pretty much all audiences, While this is just strictly for F1.

codemasters f1 vs gt5 ?????? WTF is that?
One game consists of a specific sport. Period.
The other game consists of a whole world of motorsport.

I dont understand how this lasted 7 pages. To me these are 2 entirely different kind of games. Might as well be Mario Kart vs Ridge Racer

The only driving games I have played with a steering wheel are the GT games. With everything else, i find that the precision is completely lost and i just crash all the time. As such, i only play the likes of Grid and McRae with the joypad. If the new F1 game can give us proper steering wheel feedback, i may get a new wheel.

Fifa 2010 vs NHL 2010 - both sport games... its basic the same here, both are racing games, but with very different gameplay.

I for one look forward to F1, as ive been missing a really good F1 game since i bought the PS3 and F1 ce. I will buy both F1, GT5, and all accessories i would need to give me the optimal experience anyways ;)

Well GT is not just a racing game, it's a driving game with the main focus on racing although just driving some cars is sometimes enough for me at certain times.
Gameplay may differ but the main difference is the content; F1 2010 is purely focussing on one season in one racing series ( and i hope it will be great ) and will probably be replaced the next year like FIFA.
GT has tons of content and variety which will see me occupied for a couple of years at least, just wish they had released F1 2010 a bit sooner to fill the timegap ( although i also wish GT5 was released sooner ;)) as i would normally probably give it a go but as they seem to be released somewhat simultaneously i know which one gets my money....

Since I preordered Gran Turismo 5 at Gamestop already, I'll probably get F1 2010 if it's 30 dollars or less.

You guy's seen this before?

GT has featured F1 cars before, why would it be any different now? He can get last years cars, that'll be fine with me.

IMO im struggling to decide what I am more excited for gt5 or tdu2.

Ha same.

I am definetly more excited for GT5 now that TDU2 was pushed back as late as march next year. It was the other way around for a bit there even if TDU2 was only going to hold me till GT5.

Now I might enjoy GT5 so much I don't even buy TDU2. That open road mucking about sure is fun though.

TDU2? Man TDU was boring after a few hours. After the beta period was over, I didn't feel any inclination to get it.

The driving experience lets it down. Maybe if it was more alive along the lines of GTA3/4's road network/pedestrains/cops, but with GT5 physics

I agree that TDU was pretty boring after a while as it didn't feel right but TDU2 is suppose to be much better like with police and stuff. I really hated that cars of simmilar performance shared the same gearing. That was my biggest piss off.

Well see.

Other that sharing the driving genere both games are totally different and while I appreciated TDU for what it was and hope TDU2 will be that much better I plain love the GT series.

If you want an open world driving game TDU2 is still your best bet though.

I hope TDU2 does wheel interface correctly and completley.
