Just to #7 I think.
Once we hit the Big 12 stretch though (Baylor, @Texas, @Texas Tech, TCU, @OK St., OK, @Iowa St., Kansas), and get lucky, we may reach the coveted Top 2 spots. That is, only if:

- USC beats Oregon
- LSU beats Alabama
- LSU/Bama beats Georgia
- We beat Oklahoma
 
Looks like you'll need some help along the way up that ladder.

I think an undefeated WVU is a sure shot to get in the big game. They'll definitely have leverage over a one-loss SEC team (here, I'm assuming we have an undefeated SEC champion), and I would pick them over an undefeated Florida State, but that's very close. An undefeated Oregon doesn't hold as much weight anymore after USC went down. WVU beats FSU on style points, I suppose. So you guys are on track.
 
I think it would be pretty sweet to see W. VA. in a title game.

Just imagine :

W. VA. -vs- 'Bama

or

W. VA. -vs- LSU

I'd pull for W. VA.
 
I'd honestly like to see a WVU-FSU game. I want a high-flying, 48-45 game instead of the SEC defense dominated 9-6 contests.
 
Oh yeah. Offense would be a plenty in that one.
 
It won't happen though. A one-loss SEC champion will be No. 2 over either of those undefeated teams. I actually hope that happens, because the undefeated BCS conference champion that gets left out will make sure the BCS never ever returns in any form ever.
 
Maybe the biggest surprise for me was how Fresno State hung five touchdowns on Colorado and motored away to a 69-14 victory. Colorado- once a pretty good middle-of-the-road Big XII team... has become a pathetic Pac-12 team. I mean... Fresno State beating Colorado at home felt like LSU beating Southeastern Louisana or Southern. I don't know what turned the Buffaloes into an absolutely sorry football team after that depressing effort. I just wasn't expecting the Buffaloes to just absolutely not show up.

My Houston Cougars, meanwhile, lost 34-6 last night. So far, I'm looking like a total dope. There was a time in the 2000s when Houston finished winless. Unless the Cougars can improve, they'll look like they are trying to do their best winless impression. It's truly unacceptable for Cougars' football the kind of season they're having so far. Is THIS how you want to leave Conference USA for the Big East? So far, they're doing as great of a job as my MLB's Astros going from the NL Central to the AL West. And at least the Astros have won compared to the Cougars' football team.


#2 USCal went down, #10 Michigan State went down, and #17(?) Virginia Tech went down. College football getting crazy. I just hope we don't see something like that one season when it seemed like every #2 team got upset almost every weekend.

That season was absolutely ridiculous. App St. beats Michigan, (BAD) Stanford beats USC, South Florida reaches to #2, Arkansas beats LSU in Triple OT, and Pitt beats WVU.

Jeezus.

Yeah, Georgetown has football. It's just little-known. They have a proper football team. Note we're talking about the Georgetown Hoyas, not the NAIA Georgetown College in Kentucky. Only Big East basketball schools without proper football teams include Marquette (they have a club team), DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall, and St. Johns (used to have football, but ended in 2002 or so).

You know, I actually wondered what it would be like if Florida State hosted Wake Forest instead of Savannah State back in Week 2. That would have been a hell of a game. Florida State is still pretty solid for what they are. I've always believed in West Virginia.

I guess the match I'm looking forward to is this weekend is Clemson at Florida State. I would figure that both teams would combine for 50 to 60 points unless the game comes down to some defensive battle. I am not expecting this game to be basketball on grass (though both have good basketball teams, especially Florida State's men's team from this past season), but there will be no shortage of offense in that one.


Other notes:

* If Louisiana-Monroe ends up beating Baylor, I do figure they have to get SOME national attention despite being a one-loss team. I saw ESPN College Gameday this past Saturday, and I saw how Arkansas fans were absolutely upset about how Arkansas could lose to ULM. Lousiana-Monroe plays in the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt Conference is a pretty good basketball conference, but the weakest FBS-level conference. So I don't know if even with one loss, how far they'd go even if they ran the table the rest of the season. They'd probably play in a major late December or early January Bowl. Louisiana-Monroe is probably the best non-BCS conference school right now besides Boise State.

* If this were basketball, UNC would likely smash East Carolina like they were some other small North Carolina school (like Elon, High Point, UNC-Charlotte, or the other non-football UNC system schools). ECU can be pretty dangerous in football. I do think East Carolina will win this game. But... they'll have to do it AT North Carolina.

* Kansas State at Oklahoma should be a good one. This was the Big XII Championship Game once (that I think K-State won). Really- I think K-State beating Oklahoma would be my UPSET OF THE WEEK if it really did happen.

Well, we do suck the fat one at basketball. We average 50,000+ per game on football Saturdays, I'd be surprised if we averaged 2,000 (8,000 seats in the gym) for basketball games. I only went to one last year. However, we are building a fancy new multimillion dollar practice gym, which will hopefully boost recruiting.
 
Kansas State beating Oklahoma in Norman would be a big upset. Since Bob Stoops has been the head coach at OU, OU has a home record of 77-3. I was present at two of the three losses. It is a very good thing that this game is in Norman. Had the game been in Manhattan, then I would have given OU a 50-50 chance at best of winning.
 
Yes, at home, in Norman, OU's record during the time Bob Stoops has been head coach is 77-3. I attended at least 40 of the 77 wins. The road and neutral site record is not quite as sterling.
 
The game this week that I will have my eye on will be Michigan going into South Bend to face off against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame is coming off of a big win against Mich. State. Michigan is coming off of the giving end of a good old fashioned ass whooping. I have turn Irish for the 2nd week in a row, pulling for the Irish to win at home in a close one.

W. VA. - Geno mauls the Terrapins and pads his ever impressing stats. Turtle soup anybody ?

Ohio State - the offense led by Braxton Miller runs wild over UAB. The "D "will give up some points as they work on sharpening up for next weeks Big 10 showdown against Michigan State.

Battle of the Carolina's - the Eastern branch wins comfortably. CAM will be a happy camper after this one !

FSU / Clemson - ooooh boy, dare I call a possible upset here ? Clemson is looking good, FSU is playing some bad ass ball as well. Look for a goodie here. Tough call with this one. I don't really see a blowout, but I do see the scoreboard getting lit up.

USC / Cal - USC is p'd off, big time. Look for a blowout,USC wins big.

Just a few from me this week. The season is starting to get interesting for sure.

I thank you guys for the optimism, but our defense needs some sharpening before a "comfortable" win happens :lol:. I believe we're on ESPNU (first game on the family of networks since Tulsa in '10, first Saturday game since '08 probably), so give us a look.
 
You are on ESPNU, just looked it up. Your on @3:30 ... cool. I'll have to check you out. It's not often that we get to see the EC Pirates on TV.
 
One of the most memorable times I recall seeing ECU football on TV, it was in about 2008. Hurricane Ike did its damage here in the Houston/Galveston area, and I went to my grandmother's house to watch some satellite TV. I remembered seeing ECU upset (at that time) #8 West Virginia that weekend back in 2008. Not sure if I saw the entire game, but I do remember WVU accepting a tough loss to ECU that day.

Now for those unaccustomed to college sports, East Carolina University is in the state of North Carolina. So the ECU at UNC battle is a battle of two North Carolina schools. I sometimes get confused when people say "Carolina" and not specify either North Carolina or South Carolina. It's like saying you're from Dakota- North Dakota or South Dakota, you know? It may even be a bit weird to say you're from Virginia- but Virginia or West Virginia?


But if I had to choose (babbling aside), I'm not counting out East Carolina in the ECU at UNC game.

:lol: If you're from around here, Carolina is North Carolina. South Carolina stays South Carolina for the most part. And I'd love to see us hang tight, I don't wanna drive an hour over there and have another episode like we did at South Carolina.

And that WVU game was just an all-around good day. Skip Holtz (before the hate days) drew it up, the defense gave up three points, and we ran it up the middle every down. That was the last time the field was stormed in Greenville (other than last year's streaker), probably because of the ensuing police brutality.

That game was a blowout (24-3), the exciting game was against #17 Virginia Tech to open the season. It looked like all was lost, down 22-20 with VT punting to give us terrible field position late. But, young TJ Lee busts through the line, knocks the punt down, and sprints into the sunset to Paint it Purple for the 70,000+ fans packing Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Fun fact: Kirk Herbstreit picked ECU for both of those games on College Gameday. That was the last time we were featured on Saturday Selections. We moved up to #14 in the rankings, almost lost to Tulane in the Superdome, dropped to #15, went to NC State and lost because Skip Holtz forgot how to playcall (dropped to #23), then got blown out by Houston at home to finish out our last run in the top 25.
 
Ugh...the ECU game...

A prime example of what happens when a coach betrays you and kills recruiting...kinda like Skip Holtz, but for us, was Rich Rodrieguez...

After the horrible Pitt loss at the end of 2007, he left us for Michigan, which went 3-8 that year. =D Sweet Revenge.
 
Yeah, but we've had McNeill for 3 years. And pretty much the only thing he does well is recruit. He sure as anything can't playcall :lol:.
 
Rutgers is only a 5 point dog to Arkansas and was I believe an 8 point dog to USF. There is a CHANCE (ridiculously minute but a chance) that Rutgers can go 10-2. Their remaining schedule is not THAT difficult. I would be beyond floored if they went 11-1.
