I'm kind of watching Penn State at Virginia right now, but I tuned over to another network that is showing the ECU at South Carolina game. Man- it's LOUD in Columbia, SC! Fans all jacked up as Darude's "Sandstorm" (one of few "jock jams" I care listening to) was playing. ECU/South Carolina is underway!
 
Yeah were doing great so far other than the fact that I couldn't tell our defense was on the field. We make backups look like standouts.

It is going to be a long, long day.

Even more embarrassing when the marching band plays "Call Me Maybe." Looking like a pee wee team ftw.

A Tulsa player has been treated at a local hospital after he stopped breathing in the middle of a game..he was given CPR and was breathing again in the ambulance.

Prayers go out to him. Scary scene.
 
Random notes...


* East Carolina, uh... didn't do too well at South Carolina. It was 48-10 as the Gamecocks was just raining offense all over the Pirates.

* Is it safe to say that the Miami Hurricanes got blown away by Kansas State? It was 52-13 in favor of the Wildcats of K-State.

* Penn State suffered heartbreak, falling 17-16 at Virginia. Virginia's eventual game-winning score was just enough for the Cavaliers to take down the Nittany Lions.

* Maine played at Boston College. This would be a great hockey game, but this is football; and the B.C. Eagles won 34-3 over the Maine Black Bears.

* Sorry-ass FBS schools lose badly to FCS schools. Just ask the Eastern Michigan Eagles losing 31-14 hosting the Redbirds of Illinois State.

* 31-16 was the score as THE Ohio State University put THE beatdown on UCF. Golden Knights looked more like fool's gold knights playing at the Horseshoe against the Buckeyes.

* Texas A&M played pretty damn good against Florida, especially in the first half. Florida, however, was just too much- winning 20-17 in College Station, TX.

* The Hornets of Sacramento State made the Colorado Buffaloes look VERY stupid as they failed 30-28. Folsom Field is a beautiful place... as long as the Buffaloes are winning.

* It was #19 Michigan who won 31-25 in a pretty good match against Air Force.

* BIG win for Houston's Rice University as they went into Kansas University and won 25-24.

* Notre Dame remains unbeaten as they took down Purdue in a 20-17 victory.

* In what seems like a high-scoring baseball game, the Cy-Hawk trophy goes to Iowa State 9-6. The Iowa Hawkeyes couldn't defend home turf against the ISU Cyclones.

* Wisconsin has a 33-season straight non-conference win streak. That streak was snapped in their trip to Oregon State. 10-7, Oregon State was the final score.


And yes- my thoughts and prayers go to the injured Green Wave (Tulane) player. Gridiron football is a wonderful sport, but it is also a quite dangerous one. Best wishes to the young man.

Rutgers won 26-0. Should have been more vs. Howard. Now we have tough tests against USF and Arkansas in two weeks. If we end up 3-1 after that we will be okay. A 4-0 would be a ridiculous shock.

UCLA (2 - 0)... looking good. Can they give USC a run for their money out there in the PAC 12 ?

Wisconsin ... WTF gives here ? They eeked one out last weekend, then just fell on their face this weekend. Last years Big 10 Champs are struggling like a fish out of water. Oregon holds Monte Ball to just 60 yards rushing ! This is not looking like the Big 10 Champs of last year. Starting to wonder what may be going on up there in Madison. I know it's early in the season, but this is not what the defending champs wanted to see.

OSU is looking good with another big win. This team also has it's fair share of flaws that need some addressing before hitting the meat of the schedule. The defense is a little rough around the edges and is very suspect. 3rd down efficiency needs to get better. The Bucks need to rely a little more on their ground game as well. It can't always be Miller carrying the ball. Braxton Miller looked good as he was 18 of 24 for 155 yards , 27 carries for 141 yards , 3 rushing TD's and 1 passing TD. Tighten up Bucks, your schedule is not going to get any easier. Next weekend the Buckeyes will host the Golden Bears of Cal.

Thoughts and prayers do go out to Devon Walker.
 
Well, we held Lattimore to 40 yards and that didn't exactly help :lol:.

Oregon State has the magic, as well. Stuff just happens up there.
 
Holding Lattimore to just 40 yards is an accomplishment in itself CAM. Sorry to see the end result of your game. :(.
 
It's cool, I didn't even watch the 2nd half. I started to, but when our backup QB threw a pick on his first pass I just said "Screw it" and went to shoot a round of golf. Bad weekend in sports for me actually, we got stomped, Duke is getting stomped, and Team USA blew their game.
 
Some words from Urban Meyer on his '12 Buckeyes. (I agree with him) The imperfect team, with a perfect record ... so far, subject to change for sure. Things are going to get interesting soon here in Buckeyeland.

Despite a 2-0 mark, Meyer, in his first year at Ohio State, is far from pleased.

Pity his players this week in practice.

"We're not where I thought we'd be," he said of the Buckeyes' progress through two lopsided wins in which they've manhandled teams by a combined score of 87-26.

In rapid succession, Meyer also said enough to depress any scarlet-and-gray clad fan.

"In pass defense we have a long way to go and in getting pressure on the quarterback," he said.

He added, "Offensively we're down to our third tailback and it looks like it. We have to get better. The guys carrying the ball are talented - just terrible mistakes."
 
Well, barring an upset we will face Arkansas reeling from two straight losses. I just hope we are 3-0 going into that because our offense is ugly.

I fully expect Duke to make it to 2-1 playing against NCCU, ranked 3rd to last out of 200+ teams.

I'm very interested to see how my Pirates do in a hostile environment down in Hattiesburg, especially with hurt feelings after the South Carolina loss. USM has a new QB though, and our run defense has been solid.

I also think Wake Forest-FSU has the possibility to be tight, I want to see how Louisiana-Monroe does against Auburn, and maybe Carolina can lose two straight against Louisville.

I'm guessing USC-Stanford will be the Gameday game, so I'll watch that as well.
 
Week #3 should be good to watch. I'm interested in the Notre Dame -vs- Michigan State game. I'm turning Irish this week btw. But only for a week. :lol:

There are some others I'll be keeping an eye on:

USC / Stanford - I think SC will win, but Stanford will hang in there in what I think could be USC's first challenge of the year.

West Virginia / James Madison - Geno Smith pads his Heisman hopeful stats in this one and stays nipping at the heels of Barkley. W.Va. wins big in this one.

UCLA / Houston - I was thoroughly impressed with the play of UCLA last week. UCLA is now ranked and I feel they are out for business. UCLA wins big and keeps in touch with USC. (SORRY JOHN) :indiff:

Ohio State / Cal - Bucks are impressive but need to tighten up things a bit (offensively and defensively). OSU wins by a comfortable margin. The suspect defense will give up some points to Cal. thus irking Coach Meyer even more.
(coach Meyer says : I want more damn it :nervous:)

As mentioned in a earlier post ... WTF is going on in Wisconsin ? Obviously something. The Badgers have fired their offensive coordinator Mike Markuson. This in hopes of turning around a struggling Wisconsin team. He will be replaced by Bart Miller, a graduate assistant in his second season with the Badgers. UCLA is ballin' right now. We (U. of Houston) just isn't as good as what we used to be. I'm not confident about this year's Cougar squad. So I wouldn't be surprised if UH loses at UCLA. It may be as close as today's UH Cougars may ever get to playing in the Rose Bowl. So unless UCLA just doesn't show up, I'm expecting my kitties to get pounced on.

I just caught this. What do you guys think ?

Trae Elston of Ole Miss. delivers a shoulder shot to UTEP receiver Jordan Leslie. Elston was not flagged for this brutal hit, but he did get suspended by the SEC for this weekends upcoming game against #14 Texas.

What do you think, was there enough time for Elston to pull up ? Did Elston need to hit him like he did (shoulder shot ?). Tough call, had it not been for the shoulder shot, I think Elston lives to play another game. I think he deserves the suspension. The timing part of the hit ... close - borderline.

Notre Dame is moving to the ACC in all sports... excluding football. Notre Dame will play against five ACC teams supposedly next year or the year after.

What do you make about Notre Dame and this move?

ND is no longer that special anymore. There shouldn't be independent teams like this and they don't deserve that tv contract.
 
+1. They aren't even that good, they'll most likely get FSU/VT every year, and they'll never win that. So no national championship for Kelly, so sad.. NOT.

Well, at least they won't be taking a spot from the Big East. The bad thing is that I don't think that a potential 6-6 team with a cupcake schedule should EVER make a bowl game, yet ND will be just that.
 
ND's administrators wouldn't go near the Big East with a ten-foot pole. The conference is in the tank, and when the big conference reformation comes, it'll be the first big one to go. The ACC is either 2nd or 3rd from the top, so this is a very good move logistically for them, I just don't like. Judging by geography, fan base, ACTIVITY OF FAN BASE (most important aspect of sports, least important one to people who run them), and athletic performance, ECU honestly deserves that spot more. Sad thing is, Carolina's ambassadors hate us so much we can hardly get them to play us in football, let alone give Swofford their blessing to admit us.

No, they wouldn't, and I'll probably lose the same amount of respect for them as I did for WVU (read: ALL RESPECT) if they sue to leave ASAP as opposed to waiting for the guidelines.

Its not a big game (USF is not ranked) and its in September, Rutgers may lose this one :(. (If it were in any other month USF would probably lose it.)
