Speaking of legit teams ... Notre Dame anybody ?
I think the real deal is playing out of South Bend. After watching them beat Michigan, or do I have that mixed up ... after Michigan beat themselves yesterday (10 - 6), Notre Dame is looking pretty damn good. In consecutive weeks, they have beaten both of the Big 10 Michigan teams, Notre Dame is owning the state of Michigan this year.

UCLA (19), last week they climb into the top 25, now this week they will more than likely fall back out of it after losing to Oregon State 27 - 20. What gives here ? College Football, you never know from one Saturday to another.

* Nebraska finally unleashes : 73 - 7 over Idaho State.
* Penn State gets win #2 this year (good for them). They were able to beat Temple 24 - 13.
* #15 KSU - (Kansas State) beats #6 Oklahoma 24 - 19. KSU is looking good.
* #4 Florida State holds off #10 Clemson in a thriller. 49 - 37. FSU racks up 35 points in the 2nd half to get the win.
* #13 USC beats Cal. 27 - 9. Barkley not overly impressive, gives up more ground to Geno Smith. Speaking of Geno .....
* #8 West Virginia 31 - 21 over the Terps of Maryland. W. VA. still climbing the ladder to the front of the pack, looking good as well.
* The battle of Carolina, EC -vs- NC. I watched this one, NC's defense had it working for them. EC really has nothing to be ashamed of, they held in there for the 1st half. Unfortunately for EC, the offense got shut down the 2nd half. NC over EC 27 - 6.
* OSU Buckeyes, well they won and move on to 4 - 0 , but still not the Bucks that they should be. UAB gave them a run, OSU holds on to win 29 - 15. Next week, OSU goes North up into East Lansing Michigan to take on the Spartans of Michigan State. This could very well be the 1st loss of the season for OSU. I'm a little :nervous: about this one.
 
Don't worry Nick, if MSU was losing in the second half to Eastern Michigan, you should be fine. =D
 
The game would have been there for the taking if we didn't spot them 14 points in 3 minutes. Take out the first 5 minutes of the third quarter, and the score is 13-6.

The Irish are the real deal. If they get their quarterback situation worked out (Tommy Rees please!!!) then look out. Extremely difficult schedule as usual though. Can they make it to the last game of the season at USC and still be in the hunt?

OUCH! Wtf!!!! Denard Robinson just hit me in the head with a pass as I typed that. Good Lord! Indianapolis is a few hours away from South Bend yet he still managed it. Yes, he was THAT BAD. And it was glorious to watch!

Ball State has the ugliest looking Cardinal logo I've ever seen since first following college sports in 2002. Only thing I really know about Ball State is that it's the alma mater of David Letterman. They did have that one season where they were unbeaten... until Buffalo hammered them in the MAC Championship game- much like how my beloved Houston Cougars were unbeaten last season... until being smashed by Southern Mississippi in the C-USA title game.


Anyhow, I imagine the people in Fayetteville, AR aren't too happy right now (mildly speaking) with their 2012 Razorbacks football team. The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University knocked off Arkansas on the road. Any chance Arkansas bounces back, or are they purely done?

Did you know that Colorado won a game finally? They won at Washington State... 35-34, I believe. It was Colorado getting thumped at Fresno State earlier this season, and I think Washington State lost to Sacramento State earlier this season. Put them in PAC-12 play, and it was the black and gold Buffaloes of Colorado who got it done in that match.


I may key in on this weekend's games in a future post. Still, I am immensely shocked over Kansas State's victory at Oklahoma.
 
Well, the Hawkeyes (Iowa) lost by one, Northern Iowa-Youngstown State went to the wire (42-35 for the Pengus) and, this weeks highlight (in my opinion, other than Kansas State) (Shout out to my schoolmate who is now a freshman there!) was Cornell's thrashing of Yale 45-6, nice homecoming game win, I do say!

They have had a few NCAA Basketball Sweet 16 appearances as well. On year, when UNLV was the title game by 40 or something and beat all but one team by 15+, the one team they didnt blow out, was Ball State. Won by 2 or something.
 
A friend brought an NCAA Football video game over to my place the other day, and the first thing we did was play the minigame with the mascots. Me and my friend chose Stanford, and playing with a team full of trees was hilarious. They had to run bent over and everytime they moved it looked like a big headbanger, the four of us laughed so hard.
 
I do that all the time with my buddies. They want the Stanford tree, so I pick the Notre Dame Leprechaun. When I get a big run going, I usually say, "Their after me Lucky Charms!"

Realistically looking at this, I see no reason why they could not have a legitimate shot at running the table. There are a few hurdles in this schedule, but after looking at what they have accomplished the past two weeks .... I'd said they could be a viable contender.
 
The first full week of Fall/Autumn is this week. Matches slated for this week encompass Thursday through Saturday. A lot more conference games are coming up. You want to prove to be the best? Believe it or not, that is (from what I've heard) the ONLY match of unbeaten teams this weekend. I learned that when I was watching ESPN College Gameday this past Saturday. So either the Red Raiders of TTU or the Cyclones of ISU will be unbeaten heading into next weekend.

Seattle has already seen some insanity this week in football. Later tonight, Seattle will see more football; this time, of the college variety. The University of Washington Huskies will host the Stanford Cardinal.


Elsewhere, Morgan State at North Carolina A&T going on right now. 10:02 left in the first quarter with no score.
 
Last night, Washington stunned #8 Stanford 17-13. Tonight, though... it's Hawaii at BYU. Enjoy this final weekend of September 2012!
 
West Virginia plays in it's first ever Big 12 Conference game today against #25 Baylor. Woot!
 
Let me tell you something. Geno Smith? He is one hell of a quarterback. I'm sold on him now. So many sweet passes he's thrown, even under durress. So many times I've said, "you got to be kidding me!" whenever he sends one deep. WVU's colors are blue and gold (and I love their blue and gold combo), and Geno Smith is certainly golden.

It's 49-35, West Virginia with 7:55 left in the 3rd Quarter as of this post.

ECU should have their hands full with UTEP and then UCF Thursday. Off to cheer myself hoarse.

* Basketball on grass, anyone? It was 70-63 as West Virginia won their first Big XII game in taking on a very game Baylor squad. Man- that was a great game (unless you love defense)! Geno Smith is the truth! He's beast. I'm sold on this bloke now.

* Stony Brook must be a very powerful team. How so? Army lost 23-3 hosting Stony Brook. Then again... it's Army- and FBS school. Sorry ass football team to lose not only this bad, but to not even get a touchdown against the Seawolves.

* The Spartans of San Jose State went into the United States Naval Academy today. Navy lost in what seems like a high-scoring baseball game: 12-0.

* The only FBS Service Academy to win today was Air Force, and they did so with a 42-21 victory hosting Colorado State.

* Northwestern is unbeaten as they won 44-29 hosting Indiana.

* Congrats, Texas A&M! You (and the 12th Man) torched Arkansas 58-10 for your first SEC win.

* It was 21-16 as Missouri went to Orlando and beat the UCF Golden Knights.

* Our man CAM said it- Duke won, and they did it 34-27 at Wake Forest.

* 35-7 was the score as Penn State whacked Illinois in Champaign.

* Depressing effort in Atlanta as Georgia Tech's Yellow Jackets lost 49-28 to the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State University.

* North Carolina (Duke's best friends) turned the Idaho Vandals into potato chips with a 66-0 beat down.

* The Wolfpack of North Carolina State could do nothing to shield themselves from the Miami Hurricanes. The University of Miami won 44-37.

* The Buckeyes of #14 Ohio State survived #20 Michigan State by a score of 17-16.


As of now... my beloved Houston Cougars are leading 35-14 over Rice at Reliant Stadium with 6:50 left in the game. Getting your first win of the season against a rival is ALWAYS gratifying. That's unless Rice has an epic comeback.

Stumbled upon this video looking at college football videos...a photo/video montage of the best moments from the 2000s. A little old, I know, but many of these moments gave me goosebumps, especially when that Boise State RB proposed to that cheerleader at the end of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Really shows all of the emotions that glorify this game: sadness, triumph, glory, and suffering.

Real fans stand in pouring rain for four and a half hours.

To be honest, at this point I really expected to be 1-4 and not win the UTEP and Southern Miss games. This means that we will lose some easy ones though.

Here is my review of our team so far:

OFFENSE
We, IMO, have the best offense in the nation (sorry Ohio State, Oregon, and USC). We, IMO, have the best QB, if not player, in the nation, two NFL-caliber wideouts, one of the fastest men in college football (Tavon Austin), added with a top notch O-line. We can ride our offense to a national title, that is, only if our...

DEFENSE
...improves. Our defense has only one objective: Keep Geno out of a shootout, or games like yesterday will happen and Geno will eventually lose one. Our run defense isn't bad, but our secondary is horrifying. Why we don't play like we did against Clemson in the Orange Bowl every game defensive wise is beyond me: Our offense has figured it out, why don't you?
 
Our defense is getting better, we're staying in shape and the only hole is pass defense. We gave up 2 or 3 forty yard passes. Were really good in redzone defense.

We had a 90 minute weather delay with 6 minutes left in the second quarter. After the delay, we score 21 straight (28-10) and only give up a kickoff return touchdown. Our quarterback threw three picks, but we got three takeaways as well. Best of all, we finally have a running back again! First good runner we've had since Chris Johnson. 25 carries for 150 and a TD, name is Vintavious Cooper. UTEP is also really good, so I'm actually very impressed with our play.

Now, that I've said that, we will probably lose to Memphis in two Saturdays :lol:.
