Great news from Crytek today! Crytek Community Manager Alexander Marschal sent a word that the Crysis single player demo is only a month away! What an awesome way to start a Monday!.

The Countdown to Crysis Continues:

Single Player Demo - 9.25.07

PC gamers now have a reason to mark a big circle around September 25th on their calendars as the single player demo for Crysis will be lighting up rigs worldwide in just 30 days.

Consisting of the entire first level in Crysis’ epic single player campaign, “Contact,” gamers will get to finally experience first-hand the stunning visuals, revolutionary Nanosuit gameplay and open-ended level design that make Crysis one of the most anticipated shooters and PC games of all time. The demo is also poised to include a huge surprise from Crytek.

Can't wait to see how it runs on my PC. :D

Yeah it will be interresting to see how well it runs on my gaming PC. Unfortunately last April 2006 when I had it built it was probably fast enough. Now a year and a half later its definetly outdated. Oh well as long as I can play with most of the settings on I will be happy. I guess we will find out next month. The only bad thing is they are releasing the demo on the day Halo 3 is coming out so I probably wont even check it out anyway for a few days.

I was thinking the same. I've got a 4800X2, 2G RAM and 7800 GTX which i bought in Dec 05. I'm pretty certain that the GPU isn't powerful enough now, so will be getting an 8800 GTX to sort that out, but also have no idea how well the CPU will perform or if my old RAM is fast enough.. Fingers crossed they're going to be good enough to last another 6 months or so, guess the demo will tell all.

Either way, can't wait to get my hands on Crysis :)

nVidia's coming out with the new 9800 GTX cards, and they're apparently twice as fast as the 8800 GTX! It'll be interesting to see how well my 8800GTS(320mb) does; since I can run BioShock on full settings, and if I can do the same with Crysis I won't have to spend even more money on a 9800.

Bump.

There's a MP beta, subscriber's only though... :( But it's worth keeping an eye on it.

Some guy on nVnews:
All I have to say is, WOW. Really, game runs flawlessly at 1440x900 with settings on high (very high is disabled). By flawlessly I mean the FPS never dips under 60; graphics are beautiful, maybe a little less spectacular than in some high-def videos, but revolutionary all the same.

If I can run it at 30-50fps @ 1680x1050 then I'll be very happy.

lol crysis looks horrible on my pc. I really need to upgrade... :p i dont think anyone's allowed to talk about he open beta outside of the betaforums....

I can't wait for it. It seems like the hype is a bit extreme, though. I've been disappointed before, as graphics and physics aren't everything.

Been playing it since 3pm. The predator-esque bit at the start is very good. Also, the level editor is the best I've seen, and launching mini-nukes makes everything fly. You can even spawn hurricanes.

My game runs a 20-30 fps with everything on high, and it's actually quite smooth!.
I can't believe how good the cutscenes look, they look alomst as good as Final Fantasy FMV's: http://mdecescape.com/images/Crysis_Demo_Hanging_Soldier_1.png

I played the demo, but it did not play that well on my PC. However, I am looking to get a new PC sometime this month or next month, mainly because of Crysis.

Pre-ordered a couple days ago. I'll take the pre-release download. :)

I've been waiting a long time for this game.......

Just played the demo tonight, 1600x1200. Besides the occasional sound pop/crack/sizzle that is so inherent with vista and my audio card, it runs great. Hopefully I can get the audio issue resolved by the time I can download the game on the 14th of this month. I'll be waiting for this one. 👍

Upon further evaluation of the game, DX10 looks amazing. To bad my 8800 GTX 768mb video card and DC 4800+ AMD processor isn't enough hardware to give me better than 20 fps.... To be honest, it looks too damn good to not run it at full quality in DX10. The way I look at it, I have about 11 days to build a 8800 GTX SLI, quad core, 4gb ram gaming rig for this game...

The game is no way perfect with a lot of details being left out, but I found the pros to far out weigh the cons in this situation. I'm hopeful that the final release will have some of these other issues resolved that will take this game to into the stratosphere.

Some of the cons I noticed were:
  • Lack of gore, no blood or limbs blowing off. It would be a nice option. :)
  • Seems that only palm trees and saplings are destructible, while other vegetation is not.
  • Kind of goes with the gore, but I had a dead AI soldier in a SUV a took. After I blew it up to ashes, the dead AI gunner was still un-burnt by the flames and explosion. Again, a gore option could fix this.
  • The AI can be stupid at times.
  • Seems like the braking of boxes, etc... are the same physics as the original Far Cry. I was hoping for a little more realistic splintering of the box.
  • No foot prints.

The Pros...

Other than some of things I noticed above, it looks amazing! DX10 has really allowed some high end textures and shadowing which just helps immerse the player into the game. The depth is amazing. The rocks, leaves, lighting, shadows, textures....incredible.

What kind of components are you looking at?

These will be the specs of my next PC:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66GHZ)
Motherboard: Asus P5K Deluxe Motherboard LGA775
Ram: 4GB DDR 2 800MHZ
Graphics Card: 768MB GF8800 GTX
Hard Drive: 2x250GB 32MB SATA
Optical Drives: 20X Dual Layer DVD-RW
PSU: 650watts
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate Edition 64bit

Very Nice! I should probably put my specs in a different thread but since I'm upgrading for THIS game, I'll list it here... (just got done ordering so here we go):

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (3.0GHZ) 1333 FSB
Mother Board: EVGA SLi 680i 1333 FSB
Ram: OCZ Reaper 2gb Kit SLi Certified. 1150mhz DDR2
Graphics Card(s): 2x768mb BFG 8800 GTX (I already have one, so I am adding the second one for SLi).
Hard Drive: 2x150gb WD Raptor in SATA Raid.
PSU: OCZ 1010w SLi Certified with 4x12v 20amp Rails.
OS: Vista Ultimate 32-Bit

I have plans on making my current system a dedicated Home Theatre PC and this one a strict gaming system.

I will wait to get the full version of this game, once I have my new PC, which should be 3-4 weeks away if all goes to plan. Anyway, I hope everyone who already has a great system will enjoy this game from the first day of Crysis.

More memory and an Q6600 would have been a wise choice as Crysis supports quads and the Q6600 is only around $270. In addition, I've seen Crysis take up more than 2GB of RAM on my system.. The hard drive setup and graphics setup should run Crysis nicely. I personally have the following and would like to upgrade a bit:
  • Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2GHz
  • 4GB DDR2
  • 2x74GB Raptor running RAID0
  • EVGA 680i Mobo
  • AMD 2900XT (512mb)
  • Vista Ultimate 64 bit
I'd like to change the motherboard with a new Intel-chipset based motherboard that supports crossfire. Then I'd like to grab another 2900XT and put it in. Problem with that is my powersupply would have to be upgraded, and my current case (all acrylic two-level cube thing) would need to be changed as it doesn't even fit my current 2900XT well. The project would then reach a bit more financially than I have to put in right now, but we'll see. (:

Here's a fun offtopic fact: Far Cry 2 is a different game than Crysis. While I don't know why I didn't notice this earlier, EA Games is developing Crysis with Crytek. Ubisoft, who actually owns the Far Cry franchise, are developing Far Cry 2 somewhere else. That too should be an amazing game.

I really struggled with choosing what processor to go with. With the quad's being slower, only apps that could utilize the quad cores would actually be beneficial. As far as the ram, I just wasn't ready to struggle with Vista 64-bit so I'm sticking with the 32-bit and it seems to treat 4gb's of ram with mixed results. Thought I'd try 2gb's first then maybe try 4gb's later.

Your system looks killer and I'm sure a crossfire system with two of those cards would be sick!

 I thought that Crysis was AKA Far Cry 2. Very cool...glad to hear that.

A little off subject here, but it might help me to run the demo a little better, I notice Pako you have disabled Vista's Aero (no transparent Windows). Is it like that so the game will run better or is that how you prefer it? I've always wondered whether disabling all that stuff will make a game run better or not.

Every little bit helps. Anything you can disable that you don't need should help performance to some degree, noticeable or otherwise.
