Right now:
8:25 in North America is place 505;
8:30 is #805.

So for America your suggestion would not work, there would be too few players. Same for Asia.

For Europe, maybe ... 8:25 is #2,340 there; But the way, Asia is about the same cut off for 8:25 as America.

I thought Kudos used to list the number of competitors, but I cannot find the numbers at the moment.

I wrote:
"I'd go so far as to say that if your qualifying time is more than 8:25, consider trying again. Consider a little practice so that you know where the corners might be."

I'd say that's an easy suggestion to follow.

I saw some dude with a a time that was almost 10 minutes. It's enough to get him ahead of those with no time, but that's not a time that indicates any effort.

Sounds good, @Sven Jurgens. I also did some math with KudosPrime's stats. It's not the best math, and makes quite a few assumptions, but I'd like your feedback - especially if it's a valid conclusion.

1. We assume that every account is a different player, and that duplicate accounts on the same system are nonexistent.

2. According to the Daily Active Players in Sport Mode, and going from September 2018 to the present, the metric seems to have a very rough guesstimated average of 30k players, maybe a bit less. I believe this stat is for any & all players worldwide. Let's make a generous assumption and use the value of 40k players, as this is the rounded-up value from the recorded player-count from February 2nd, 2019, which had 39.6k players. Here, we will also assume that this value is evenly-spread across all nations and regions.

3. My region is North/South America, with only the US (my nation) and Canada being in FIA races. Let's take a look at the Players by Country page. For the percentage of players, the US has 14.0%, Brazil has 2.6%, Canada has 2.0%, Argentina has 1.3%, and any nation with under 0.5% is not listed. I am also seeing a 0.9% for "mx" - could this be Mexico? At any rate, let's have a "best-case scenario" and pretend that all those other Central/South American nations add up to exactly 0.5%, such as Chile, Paraguay, Colombia, and so on. Under the assumptions made thus far, this means my entire region is 21.3% of the player population, and up to 16.0% is observed in championship races.

4. So if we do some shoddy math...
0.213*40000 = 8520
0.160*40000 = 6400
...this means that in a given daily race, I am one within a population of 8520 players within my region, and one of 6400 for championship races.

Wow. That is small. And that's after all the assumptions and rounding-up, too, so the actual number in practice is likely even smaller.

For daily sport races only regions count
https://www.jasonguernsey.net/gts/drivers-by/region
Americas is at 20.9%

Of that only 7.86% is SR.S
https://www.jasonguernsey.net/gts/drivers-by/driver-rating

However I assume Jason tabulates all players, not just the ones that have participated in sport races, so perhaps KP is a bit more accurate with this plus it shows the percentile for the 90-99 range
https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=sr_distribution_sliced
11.9% are eligible for the 90-99 room.

https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=daily_sport_activity
It's dropped to avg 25K daily active players

11.9% of 20.9% of 25k = 621 players available per day for the 90-99 SR rooms, with 192 races to fill. (8 per hour)

10% of the player base is DR.B
https://www.kudosprime.com/gts/stats.php?stat_preset=dr_breakdown
So you only have 522 players a day in your DR range, even less than in your SR range.

DR.A+ has only 16 players a day, DR.A 63 players a day.

The Mini race is working out quite nicely for me as a SR recovery aid - everything is quite calm and mostly under control, so i can expect a smallish increase with every race. DR has been steadily increasing also, due to lots of top 3 finishes (something that never happened when I was B/S).

I made it back to SR-S after an hour of racing yesterday. First race in that group and it's chaos again, people barging each other aside and forcing gaps left right and centre. I got nerfed back to the same SR points that's I started the day with.

Why is SR-S dirtier than any other rank?! People get too comfortable?

IMO it takes effort to get to 8:25. Maybe a lot. We have different equipment, and desire, let alone time. And the game is not just for A and above rated DR players. The thing about the Nord is that a driver can be on a good time, and then leave the track. So getting 8:25 is not so easy. If 8,000 Americans are playing on the Nord (not sure how that correlates with what Sven's data he just published) then since only 500 qualified to your 8:25 level, that leaves out 7,500. So you are saying for America, the track cannot support 94% of the players.

Clearly, the protection against crash drivers threatens the whole game. Slower drivers deserve to compete. But fast drivers need to be protected from crashers. The game is not doing that anymore ... I do not know if it ever did?

I raced at the Nord two weeks ago in N300, with the fixed car Mitsu Evo. I was being bashed up by drivers a lot faster than me. A pair of Japanese ones, a B and a C driver. My qualifying in the Evo was 08:06.267. Your time was 08:15.241. If you applied your rule to that race, you may not have qualified either!

And the fact was for me at the Nord race, I had my SR lowered from 99 to mid A level by just two guys who were B & C, in one race, and they were faster than me. So being fast at the Nord is no protection from the way the game awards bashing drivers IMO. They enjoyed smashing me - it was all a big laugh to them. And why not since the game awards such driving?

The problem is not speed, its the drivers and essentially - the game itself - because it actively encourages bad behaviour, like crashing at the first corner.

How about this ...

1 - Make a first corner crasher have to qualify again, and beat a certain time? Not sure what time you'd be able to give cheating bashers though ...

Or

2 - Make a first corner crasher have to finish a "game" race (not a race with real people) in the top three at the same venue. And - make the crasher's "qualifying game" designed so that if the player [crashed into] - touched any car during the game, the player scored such a penalty which would make it impossible to finish in the required top three?

Or (my favourite)

3 - Have a "Crasher's Repechage". All the first corner crashers end in a repechage race, and only by finishing the race, and by not touching another car during the entire race, can a crasher return to the game? That might teach 'em something. The first few corners of the race could be signed as "Repechage Zone".

I guess they think they are the 'elite' and drive past their abilities. N24 is super aggressive again in SR.S, very unnecessary. It takes longer every evening before it calms down. It doesn't help that most SR.S players have a good understanding of the penalty system and know how to get away with a lot of things.

If you value you your SR, don't race between 7pm EST and midnight EST (4PM PST to 9PM PST) Most kids are on during those times.

I dunno, on Nurb 24 I just spent some time for qual hotlap fun...
I think I was 8:28? I wouldn’t race on it. I don’t feel comfortable enough, don’t know the line etc.
I don’t buy that well this tracks been on the series of games since gt5 at all.
What about me? This is my first ever driving game beyond ridge racer on PlayStation.
8:28 was a clean time around the track. I mean it’s daunting to learn, plus not the best for online imo.
I’d be racing more but tbh these last two weeks the combos make it impossible.
For some reason I can’t stomach turning on the line and cones etc. For me it’s no fun that way, and by far on tracks I know when I turn them on I am slower.
Is it so wrong for a person to play an online game ONLINE?
So what if you don’t even know the track! It’s fun to race people. The more serious folks are way out front anyways so you’re not hurting anyone.
My choice not to race much is not really for any reason except that I know with the peo0le I will be facing, I am a hazard. At A S You have to know the track.
I have put in over twenty two days total time, I am still far from knowing all the tracks. I kinda feel it’s a bit harsh, @Voodoovaj, to say some of what you have said. You have reached a plus s before. Most folks haven’t.
I should think you never see most people who post here.
I am not disagreeing with you in terms of IF YOU HAVE A HIGH RATING. I am top 1-2 percent of region, and I won’t race Nurb 24 because I will get destroyed by people who have played this game since gt5.
Reality is I doubt most folks have put in as much time to this title as myself, beyond an outlier like @Sven Jurgens.
You cannot expect everyone to be the 1 percent, is all I’m sayin.
I stand by my claim that Seaside 2 is tough. @Pigems hit a heck of a lap on that. I also put in some time trying to improve and my best is like 48.3.
I’d venture most people who enjoy the game would struggle to break 48.
I am leery of gr4 because the car I enjoy driving the most (86) is basically uncompetitive under bop.
Gr4 is just very tough for me.
The bottom line is this is an outstanding game, for casual folks and those who are more serious.
There’s no reason to comment that anyone shouldn’t race. That’s their choice.
It’s RACING.
ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. I SY SUCK IT UP AT THE FRONT. IN ALL FORMS OF RACING T1 IS RISKY, THATS PART OF WHAT MAKES IT GREAT!
Further, re braking early. Someone said often there’s a line of cars and one person brakes early and makes a mistake. I agree, in most races at the top say five you get this snake thing going on. It’s true what was said about one guy making a mistake. That can happen.
It doesn’t change the fact that if you rear end a person in an obvious braking area that YOU are at fault.
What I see often is a lead group trying desperately to stay with the leader because they are made faster by his good lines nd also the draft.
Getting crashed is part of racing. It happens to every racer. Learn from it and move on.
It is for this reason, I design my liveries to make my brake lights highlighted and very obvious.
I often brake early feathering from pole on t1 to try to mitigate the hazard. Especially at Lagos or Nurb gp.
There’s things one can do to mitigate the hazard.
That said, bad luck at t1 can happen to ANY racer. I don’t think the answer is telling people not to race.

Stay thirsty my friends

That is a really good question, I don't like it either...

Another problem of racing in SR.S is that you keep ending up with the same people, pulling the same crap. I'm starting to get enough of this evening SR.S group again. Half are good drivers, half are way too aggressive. Yet the player count is so low, SR.A is already added to the room, so you don't get rid of them either after they rack up a few penalties. Reporting is no use and the penalty system gets it wrong as much as right. I just dropped 11 SR points for getting rammed into the grass on the final section losing 3 positions from someone who can't hold a line and has already hit me in previous races.

I'm going to try one more. Racing in the evening is not really relaxing anymore. It takes way too long for people to calm down and race with some sense. Is it really necessary to fight to the death for 7th with a penalty above your head.

Perhaps they did me a favor, SR 88, seems I dropped down one tier. New group finally. It's mixed SR.A so could also be worse :)

For Australians, that means on our East time zone which is the majority of our population, to avoid the Japanese kids, we can't race between 9 pm and 2 am, due to the Japanese being two hours behind us.

Funny thing was I raced one Saturday night, and there were some tough drivers from Japan there ... so I quit b4 midnight and got up for a 6 am race ... those same tough Japanese dudes were still there ... they must have left school or Uni, and just played ... continuously from before sunset, to past sunrise.

The glories of youth I guess.

The worst of them though in my experience, are those who are like a couple, racing each other. They don't care about anyone else IMO.

That is why i avoid a lot of tracks that deal with the problem

Dropping to 88 SR was worth it
yYnd.jpg

Not that it was in any way a clean room. 70% red ratings. I managed to get through without penalties or SR loss, +6 SR, some deductions from the usual bumping is racing crowd. First place was not happy I was faster. First he blocked / pushed me in the corner to the middle straight. Then he last second blocked me on the straight when I was going for a pass. That cost him 3 sec penalty since he bumped me onto the grass. Not happy with that he nearly crashed me later when trying to serve his penalty a bit, in the middle of the road, and unghosting as soon as I got near. I narrowly avoided him yet had to brake so much I had to let him pass again. He did the same thing again on the final straight, in the middle then swerving into my path. He caught me on his bumper this time stealing my momentum. In the end he failed to serve the last of his penalty in time, slowed too much. He left the room straight away with a red B.

Anyway the only thing any fast aggressive driver without a good qualifying time has to fear is, getting pole position after incurring a few penalties...

Yesterday was a terrible day. Did Nations race, started sixth, got pushed into oblivion.
Did Manufacturers, started 12th or so and somehow finished sixth, so that's not too bad.
No gains overall. B / B

Today went a lot better, Did race B, won like 5 times. and got my SR back to A. Even won a race with a couple of DR A drivers.
I still can't beat my .47.2 I did on monday while freaking drunk. But on SR B/A everyone seems to be struggling and can't get anywhere near their quali time. That means that if I start on pole and don't screw up the first turn and the bus stop I'll have a pretty good chance at winning.

I still don't understand how I managed to get 47.2. Got a friend who's S/S and he put 46.8
I just don't get it. It's like I'm re learning the track every day. One day I'm doing the bus stop basically flat out and the other I can't stop crashing.
I just can't understand how being drunk on the first day on a track I've never raced before gets me the fastest lap I'll get in the week probably.
I'd be a terrible race driver, my head is not strong enough. No other way to explain such inconsistency.
Gonna keep trying with TCS disabled on time trials and enabled on the race just so I don't crash on bus stop :D (It's more like, dynamic TCS, I'll keep changing the setting depending on which corner I'm at)

Since my race week is as good as over and since yesterday was the first time I would get a clean race bonus and gained positions over the race on the Nordschleife I want to share a tribute to all those racers who didn‘t manage to finish at least one race without a pit stop.

I believe my quali time for Nurb is 8:28 but I know I have more pace than that. I am trying to win it in the NSX, because I love that car that nobody seems to love. I have came close to winning it once, but spun out at the first carusel on lap 2 while trailing the leader by 2 secs. I had it as his tires were going off and I was on hards. But for the first time this week I blew the carusel. I'm such a choke artist!

I tried the 4C at Nurb using Ms (with thanks to @Voodoovaj. I never would had considered it.) It's a great little runner and I still had over a lap of fuel by the end of L1 with short shifting so I could go flat out at the straights. Handles really well down the hills and twisty areas.

I still managed to meet the gravel several times :O (didn't practice much in her) but I so far like it and will probably be my "main" for the rest of the week.

The 4c is a great handling car, but you get murdered on the straights without drafting people.

I'm going with the Atenza all week, it has good pace, problem is that its difficult to make a good use of the 6th gear, it do'nt speeds up -
If I get some slipstream to get the 6th gear up to spin then it really flyes :)

I think I saw you in one of my races this week. You were flying in that Mazda.
I might try it myself today.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I met @Voodoovaj yesterday and had a good race with him and the_dark_antares.
I started P1 but dropped back to 3rd and sat there saving fuel in the draft.
They were battling hard and probably burning a lot of fuel so I figured I'd sit back and launch a surprise attack later on.
I got my chance and with plenty of fuel I went maximum attack and managed to pull away for the win. Voodoovaj got P2.

I also had a great race with @GOTMAXPOWER the other night.
He started P1 in his AMG GT3 and I was P2 in the Supra. He quickly opened up a comfortable gap and it looked like I would have to settle for P2 so I started fuel saving. The gap had grown to 5.5 seconds by the time we were coming onto the Nordschleife on lap two. Suddenly I gained 1.5 seconds.
I figured he'd had an off and that he'd start pulling away again but I gradually crept up on him and at this stage I could smell the blood in the water. After he served a penalty before the right hairpin preceding the Karusell the gap was under two seconds. But then I blew it coming into Brunnchen. I put my left rear on the grass and had to reduce my speed to keep it on track. I lost 1 second there.
On the last straight I got to within 1.2 seconds but I had to back off or I would have run out of fuel.

It was a fun race and I hope to see you on track again @GOTMAXPOWER

Edit: here's how it looked from my perspective:

I thought the same, but I really only drive the GR4 version. I tried the GR3 version and it's as fast on the main straight as anything I've tried except the Mclaren. I saw 167-168 on the main straight, top of the hill before the bridge. I didn't race it, only because I'm more consistent in the Vette. When I finally qualify, that could be my fastest lapper if I can put down a clean lap.

Stop Qualifying and get out there and start racing!! ;)

And how many races have *you* done this week? :p

I started with DRSII. Qualified with the Viper, which didn't do me any favours, I still started P11/15. It was mayhem. I finished P10 and dropped back to DR/D...my visit was pretty short lived. Not sure about SR.

In order to try gain some SR. My 5s faster qualy for N24 saw me start P11/19 and one of 5 DR/Ds. I got creamed early on and that left my tyres dirty. It was all downhill from there and I went from dancing around the track to wondering if I was playing a WRC game :scared:. I've done about 30 hours of laps on the Nord, so I have a vauge idea where the corners are.. just wasn't my day :banghead:. Think there was more SR and DR down. Finished P15 .

Tried to get some SR back with the mini, starting from the back. Finished last.

The accumulated damage: SR dropped from 82 to 78. DR dropped from 4009 to 1199... some of that was due to class drop from C to D. Mummy.... I don't wonna play no more :nervous:.

How about this ...

Too complicated. Restrict entry to only those who golded the Track Experience for the two tracks .

There are easier ways to fix the T1 dive behavior. Reset to before the corner. Nothing is more annoying and defeating than getting reset to the back of the field.

The game can detect when you brake too late, ghost and reset back to the start. Try again. Or rather do it on speed in case the trouble maker starts braking on time then lifts off the brake to bump pass anyway. If the approach speed is too high, ghost and reset.

If you started braking on time, are withing the speed range, yet did not anticipate for traffic it gets tricky. Instantly reset both cars at the first (significant) contact. It might not be fair to the one who got hit (although could be if he didn't pay attention to the radar) however it will not create a problem for the rest of the field and will encourage both drivers to be more careful.

Yep, that still makes it possible to target one other driver by deliberately driving into them at T1. It will prevent fall out for other players and the instigator at least won't gain anything from it.

There might still be edge cases where you can gently nudge people into walls / off track, yet starting with discouraging T1 dive bombs should help a lot. Double penalties as well in T1.

Penalty Line System comes to Daily Races on Apr. 1.

I'm very pleased about this. No it won't solve all the problems with the penalty system but this is a step in the right direction. From the FIA races I believe it makes people less likely to try and play the system as the risk of getting a penalty that you can't just scrub before the finish line has gone. Having to serve a penalty within a lap, often in a really inconvenient place (like the start of a long straight) makes wanting to avoid penalties more desirable.

Looking froward to it. 👍

I've been fortunate (or bad?) enough to always be behind someone just within drafting range. I noticed other drivers dropped a little in speed along the last straight which I'd assume is because they're increasing their FM. The loss in speed hasn't been detrimental or noticeable, at least.

I forgot to add the tyre conservation is exceptional like its GR4 sister even with my terrible driving. I didn't check tyres (Ms) after the race but I recall half way through L2, the fronts were 35 - 40% red with the backs at around 25 - 30%.

Great news! Very happy with that 👍

Where can I find the rules/procedures for the new penalty rule? I've never raced FIA races.
https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gtsport/news/00_3494949.html

In the new automated system, players will no longer clear their Time Penalties on their own initiative. Instead, there will be a section on the track in each race where the cars will automatically slow down to clear the penalty.

This change will be first implemented in the 'FIA Gran Turismo Championships' within the Sport mode, and will also be introduced in the Daily Races in the future.

New Time Penalty System Details
Under the new system, Time Penalties will now be cleared at Penalty Lines indicated by a yellow arrow on the track.

When a car has been issued a Time Penalty and reaches a Penalty Line, it will decelerate automatically and will not be able to accelerate again until the Time Penalty has been cleared.

The locations of the Penalty Lines will differ from track to track, with up to 4 set per track. While the Time Penalty is being applied, the car will be ghosted in addition to slowing down, so that it will not be subject to collisions with other cars.

However, while you are ghosted and clearing a Time Penalty issued to your car, make sure to drive off of the standard racing line to get out of the way of other cars approaching from behind. Not doing so can result in your car losing the 'ghost' status and reappearing in front of a car approaching rapidly from behind, causing further collisions and incidents on the track, which will be your fault.

So went racing again at the Ring this morning. The fields aren't full, but I will say most of the drivers were very respectful. Fun racing. I got a few clean races, some fast laps, and a couple of wins. Overall, I'd give today a thumbs up.

There were a couple of 8:10ish qualifiers, those guys were hauling. I have a total time in the low 50s, to the high 40s. Not sure how to get good enough to break into the 30s total time...
