Surely it couldn't be difficult to save each cars lap time and only display your best time on the leader boards but use individual car times for grid placement.

It shouldn't be. The game already saves your lap time for each car. I'd like to see this implemented at some point especially with Race B this week since I'm around 2 seconds faster in the 4c compared to other cars I've tried. So I'm somewhat screwed if I want to race with something else.

Finaly managed a race again. I'm still not very comfortable with Autopolis.. need to have done another 100 laps before I'm comfortably familiar with it. Anyways, I went in with the rexy, and after a *lot* of trying beat my Viper time by fractions :scared:. I always drive a different car each day if the race allows, and the aim is to try beating the qualifying time of the car used the day before. I don't feel comfortable using the qualifying time of another car unless I manage to get close to the same time :p. I started P8/16 on a grid with a couple of DR/As and a B in the first 3 spots and @Sven Jurgens twin brother, a DR/A starting P14.

Race gets going, and T1 was a bit of a nightmare. The guy behind me went up the inside as I started to turn and the only way I could have given him room would be to let off... and knock the guy behind me on the out side off . I tried to hold steady, but he dropped back after the contact. Orange SR to me. Fair enough, but the system doesn't really account for the other vehicles around ... you brake so as not to hit the car in front then get penalised because the car behind you didn't do the same :odd:.

Next was a shaky C4 erm 4C driver who was struggling. He was a road block for 4 corners, 3 of which I tapped him from behind. Each time I backed off rather than passing to give him time to settle. That meant i had cars behind me closing in. When he got to the tight ess he caught his rear wheel on the curb and spun out all on his own. Then I was able to try putting some distance. Lap 2 saw me do a little lawn mowing as I went a bit wide. I had Sven's twin breathing down my neck and he passed as I came back on track sideways, but managed to catch it just in time to avoid t-boning him :O. I bet he finished with brown stains in his undies .

He maintained a 3-4s gap in front of me, and I had about the same to the guy behind me. Ironically, I beat my qualifying time by 1s on lap 3, and no.. I wasn't close enough to draft :p.

Note the optimistic door number .

SR blue, DR up 400ish. Another day above DR 1 .

As a counter to that, I think in real world F1, it's legal to qualify with a different setup to what you use in the race? So you could optimise downforce for overall lap time for qualifying but then race with less downforce, for example, to make it easier to pass, and less easy to be passed, on the straights. So picking the best qualifying car and the best race car as separate decisions could be seen as realistic.
Actually, in F1, after qualification, the cars are in 'parc ferme'. You can not really change things unless you want to start from the pits.

Sorry. Looks like this has already been covered. Carry on.

Am I the only one that can't run their Q time in race C? I'm starting 10th or worse usually but seems like people that qualify 3 5 7 seconds slower are way faster than me in the race. They had Q times, fastest race laps 2 or more seconds better. Unless the 2nd tier SR S really is full of sandbaggers, which I don't doubt. If anything this game has taught me ego outweighs any kind of morals. Me first society. Unless they really change stuff overnight, 2 days ago I was at least competitive, now I park in the pits because I'm getting lapped.

You shouldn't be able to match your Q time in a race with fuel load and tyre wear, so I guess they have no set a "true" best time. I'm at least a second off my Q time on my best laps, maybe a touch more now because I've done a Q lap faster than I can consistently run. Of course I have not actually raced on that account, I'm too busy trying (and not succeeding or even close most times) to get a win from the back on my other account (I have not set a time and never do on this account). ;)

The only time I'll match my Q time in race is if I start my second lap leading the race, with a half decent lead. Other than that, there are far too many variables to take into account during the race.
Just about everyones FL was better than their QT, or very close. I'll put it down to me having a superb driving day 2 days ago. I've since lost it, quite badly.

Gasly had two penalties at Baku .... One for not stopping for weighing when required and one for exceeding fuel mass flow in quali.
That's exactly what happened and Gasly ran a fast lap due to the higher fuel flow rate. Last year Toro Rosso took grid penalties for swapping power units in Japan but it was a calculated move as they were still sorting out the new Honda power plant. Riccardio will be handed a grid penalty for backing into Toro Rosso also.

Gotta love the mid-field battles this year!

Enjoying Race C this week, I just really enjoy Fuji and tire wear. Getting close to the 1:29's just struggling with grip on the NSX, fun car though. I really like when they opt for odd numbered laps, this gives the option for strategy vs say 12 laps where the optimal is almost always to pit on lap 6. With 13 laps I can choose which stint I want to run long based on different factors.

Last night I qualified 1st, but made a little mistake in turn 1 and dropped to 3rd. I was faster than the other 2 but passing was tricky so I opted to run 7 laps on my first stint knowing I had preserved my tires following them, and could do a lap faster than their out lap. Worked like a charm, gained 2 seconds on them and pulled away after the pit stop.

Noticed a few guys try to run the race without stopping, but they became moving chicanes with 2 laps to go, sitting ducks. Passed one with 2 laps left, and put 20sec on him in 2 laps.

Two seemingly very unpopular opinions in one sentence :p Glad to see some positivity regardless. :)

haha yeah I'm one of the few who enjoy both. I love tire wear as it plays into my driving style which is similar to my real world style in preserving tires and being smooth. It's not the best for a quick Q time or even the opening laps, but in long races it pays dividends on the later laps. I always notice guys trying to drive the same line as their aggressive Q time on the later laps and they just slide around losing time. For me it's all about consistent race pace.

...Damn, i just can't get a Gr. 4 car under a .54 @ Autopolis. It just feels like every car is understeering like hell there. Almost trye'd all cars there, and the best i can archieve is a . 54.4 with the GTR.

I was watching one of my old replays from back when daily races were actually changed daily. This was 2/21/18. It was a Supra race at Tokyo East Inner Loop. Anyways, this on on the final straightaway, on the final lap. I was gonna slipstream past this guy, to take his position.

For those who don't remember, or weren't around before the SR penalty for getting hit from behind, here's why they created that penalty (this happened all the time):

I need to try a different car. I was using the Renault and I'm 4 seconds off your pace (you're probably a better driver) but I think that the GT-R is a better machine. I'll try it tonight.

@Pigems

It's probably been close to a year since I've been in the kart, but they seem like more fun to drive than I remember. The handling is awesome. I wouldn't mind racing them at Miyabi or Streets of Willow Springs. 👍

Nice Air man!! I wonder what happens when he lands upside down in a kart? Does he fall out?

Great lap man ! :)👍
I'm kinda stuck at 1:31:686 and it took all I have to get under 32. Keep messing up sector 3 .... :banghead:

Thanks man, I found a little bit of mojo there this afternoon but quickly lost it after a few laps lol. The last sector is very tricky in this car. Keep working at it and you'll get it. :)

Two random thoughts:
1. Is it just me or is the grip level in Race C actually better in the race than in qualifying???
2. Every time I drive over the "pick up" rubber parts lying around in Race C, I fear for my grip, but it has absolutely no effect, right!?
They seem to be (mis)placed there just for enjoyment of graphics. But my actual line often crosses them.

So that must have been you in this video I saw few years ago.

That's awesome! I want one of those.

@Dairyworker Are you still working on your Q time? I keep trying for the 57, over and over and over. :banghead: I just switched to the manual transmission, and it hasn't really seemed to help. I've tried every possible BB setting, and it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. In time trials, I did some laps with SM tires and set the world record. I need the cheat code to use them for qualifying. Do you have it?

I just got victimized twice, in one race, by pd not ghosting people who have lost it. Lots of fast guys on now, i am starting as low as 5th and 6th, makes it really tough to stay clean and race hard, in the middle of the pack from the start

Edit from the future... i dont see you. Must be to many fast guys now, i think the room split i am starting second and see no one i know
