At the moment Red Bull Ring - for the Daily B race  :) .

Ah I was hoping you were going to say Daily Race C, which is where I've been spending most of my time!

For RBR the main overtaking opportunities are turns 2, 3, and whatever the penultimate corner is (T7?).

Turn 2 can be an opportunity to 'let' someone have the inside line, you go deep on the brakes and cut back for a late apex, giving you a run on them down to turn 3. If you get past them there you 'should' be good for the rest of the lap, but watch out for anyone getting a run on you up to turn 7.

Usual advice is during the race if someone behind is obviously faster, don't slow yourself down with defensive lines as you'll just invite more pressure from others behind.

On the last lap defend turns 3 and 7 like your life depends on it. YOU SHALL NOT PASS

Lemme know if it works because I could be all kinds of wrong :)

EDIT: SCRAP EVERYTHING I SAID AND WATCH THIS!

Well this game has rigged the penalty system against me.
Another Race B, another disaster. Lost 1000 DR and 10 SR (now back to B/B which I HATE) because a French 911 would not stop tapping me from behind on every corner, giving me an SR down each time, before eventually pushing me off into the sand before putting himself on the grass. Made me finish 15th, the guy made the race impossible. He had chosen me to constantly attack and my AMG didn't have the pace to escape it. I don't understand what I did to deserve his rage.
So GT Sport got what it's desperately wanted for weeks and has finally sent me back to B/B, because I have the audacity to get hit by others.

Edit* second race in the AMG but with a B/B crowd. Was clean until an Italian Mustang unghosting from the first penalty zone was alongside and decided to push me to the left into the grass while I was trying to maintain a straight line into the braking zone. I got SR downs for him trying to remove me and also a 0.5s penalty for not respecting track limits (?!). My SR didn't fall or rise. What do I have to do to gain anything?!

Edit* third race, mix of A/B, B/B, and D/A. The D/A were confined to the far distance behind. A Croatina Mustang in front had 1 red bar and was teleproting everywhere taking people out. On the final corner it parked on the apex with a group of 3 of us behind it, then I got pummelled into the outside wall. I got a 3s penalty for colliding with another car and lost 14 SR. Sport Mode is a f'in joke.

I may just purposely reset myself tonight and see how many Tokyo races it takes to get back to SR 100.

I'm tempted as well, SR.S is already getting very aggressive with the resulting BS penalties. Might as well quit worrying about SR and have fun instead. The last couple races I did I put myself in the wall, afraid to actually brake on time, get rear ended and end up with a penalty. The 5 sec wall penalty doesn't cost SR, but if the game starts to make me doubt braking on time there's something very wrong with the game....

As for how many will it take, I have a feeling the SR haul for race C is pretty low this week.

I gained 7 SR for a race with one SR Down and the wall 3 times (no penalty), missing 3 sectors.
A race with 3 SR Downs from getting bumped by other cars resulted in a white S.

So maybe 12 SR for a totally clean race. Which is going to be hard in SR.B...

As for how to defend on Tokyo, apparently the most used tactic is to weave through corners and cut off on the straights. Corner entry and exit are on the inside, while the apex is on the outside and on straights the tactic is to use as many lanes as possible.

For example this screenshot of Big Willow:

Look it's @Pigems and @sturk0167 in the green and purple vans :)
The purple convertible is busy defending the corner while blue follows the usual streets of willow racing line.

Watching faster guys can help so much.

I tried about seven qualy laps at Tokyo this morning, consistent and clean, best of 2:08.6 optimum of 2:08.5. Then watched a top 10 video before going to bed and saw how the driver really attacked the two chicanes. Jump back on after waking up this afternoon, five laps, best of 2:07.9 (did have a lap 0.4s up after the first chicane but clipped the barrier on the right hander just after it) and an optimum of 2:07.4, just through attacking the chicanes more. Far more consistent through the second one than the first but consistently half a second quicker than this morning. Unfortunately no time to race until at least Thursday! Hopefully the qualy time will get me up the sharp end of the grid when I do get the chance and I can suffer the pain of getting rear-ended into T1!

Ha ha. That's a good pic.

I also will have zero concern about my SR/DR this week. I'm gonna stick with Tokyo, and not qualify. Doesn't matter. A lot of people who qualify well are lousy in the race. Hopefully I see you, @Pigems and the rest of the crew out there. It fun to race from the back with a wingman.

I had a Race A this morning. It was pretty good. I like driving while drinking coffee in Italy.

I may try another Tokyo (spits on ground) Expressway later on this afternoon. Already have a QT so I may just slide to the back at the start and try to improve on yesterday and make it more than 1/2 way around the 1st lap. :scared:

Daily B, Jaguar F-Type GR.3, BB +0
Number plate "7", Started 11th, Finished 6th
DR:+ (:dopey:) SR: 99
Lots of errors in front of me, gained 6 positions, second to last corner lost 1 position when a 911 braked better and after a slight contact I ran wide. It was my fault, but no problem, 6th is awesome :) . First race with this car.

Favourite part of the race: random(?) 0.5 second penalties all over the place for ignoring random track limits
Least favourite part: I can't drive like Mr. Perel :D

I had the same experience when I started out, but changing my style made me much faster, and saved the tires at the same time.
That being said you are close to my speed as is, so you can be really fast!

When it comes to MR cars, you have to commit to what you want to do in a turn. Some cars, like the R8 LMS and Huracan GT3, are notorious for this, as trying to change mid-way will lead you to having a bad time. So have a gameplan of what you want to do when you approach these turns.

For T2, brake right after you hear the sound that indicates that you're in a new sector. This turn is tricky, as you need to go full throttle ASAP, and may need to do some countersteering. Try to straighten the car first before you fully accelerate.

T3, brake in between 150m and 100m boards. This turn places some priority on trail braking, so smoothly engage on that as you enter the turn. The apex is before the yellow line that goes across the track, and smoothly accelerate out.

When guys set your fastest times do you start your quickest laps off the AI corner / straight run or do it off your own second lap?

It all depends on the track, if you can cross the line on lap 1 with the same speed or more than lap 2 you’re all good. But some tracks don’t let you get up to full speed because of how/where they start you off so it needs to be Lap 2 or more. And sometimes it’s the opposite and you have to restart every few laps like race A this week, by lap 4/5 the front right tire goes cold and you have to ruin a lap to warm it up, so it’s easier to just restart every few laps.

Having created a profile, I stuck a YouTube profile up, too. I've put a vid of each race up. The first three are from replays. The fourth is from bumper cam of the race live. Which do people generally prefer? I think I need to do highlight videos rather than the whole thing as it can be a bit of a yawnfest after the first couple of laps.

Over 800 miles of bottling an 07 at Tokyo with at least a dozen 07.7 laps thrown away on the last corner. So frustrating going into that corner 3/10's up then watching it all bleed back off on the straight but looking at @Pigems and @sdi_03 replays, I've been squaring the corner too much and messing the exit up all along.:banghead:

Thanks for posting those videos. I'll try for the 07 again tomorrow.👍

TYVM Sir, I’ve definitely put a LOT of hours into improving my game/swing, I actually shot my first ever sub 70 round last summer (69/-1). I’ve never had a formal lesson but I have gotten lots of help from GolfWRX.com(the GTP of Golf). :)
Hey I'm on there too..same screen name.

How about a blend of the variable tv cam where it switches to bumper cam to show each successful overtake.

Or because sometimes your car is obscured from view during the entry and exit of the tv cam and doesn’t come into view until it’s zoomed in on, have the entry and exit of every camera switch as the bumper.

Servers are acting up here, 3 disconnects and one where autodrive had us all spinning for at least 30 seconds before I quit

Same here lol, haven’t been on in a bit though now. :)

I missed it by 1 minute, but I'm still at 96 SR anyway. What's a warm up, is that where you run to pick up the controller just before the auto drive countdown reaches zero :)

It wouldn’t have helped anyways, dives, blocks, pinched off into the wall, that race had it all. Even saw @Rexracer702 , but I don’t think he recognized my alt account. I had 5th but I had to deal with a guy in the last corner and got a penalty, he didn’t get around me though, dirty bugger.

Edit: Man, this is brutal. Down to SR 38 now, the next one will probably be the one if I can’t magically pull a CRB out my arse.

These are the first two races, I skipped through the boring bits. Lots of ugliness, after rewatching them, I was definitely a little more aggressive than it felt like at the time. I’ll need to tone that down if I’m ever gonna get back to SR 99. :)

Race 1

Race 2

Gonna do a couple more, going Live. The Quest for the Holy CRB is on! :D

Props to you all in the 7s at Tokyo. I'll probably be left for dead come Saturday, but I'm fine with that. Content with my results from my 9.2 qualy time. ;)

SR.S is not much better. The 7pm race was pretty much like that. The penalties only enrage people with revenge hits all around when someone got a penalty. I got one as well when a laggy ghost decided to unghost when I was already past him but lagged back in front (apparently I hit him on his screen) and then rammed the car next to me in the wall. Both me and the car hitting the wall got 2 sec so the car the 'unghost' hit immediately brake checked me in the next corner causing 2 more cars to crash and then called me a dirty pos after the race. So that's the 90+ SR room at prime time

I got a neutral S so still with the dirty top split at SR 96. Can't gain SR here either lol.

Well here is an anomaly, clean group finish despite the game throwing two more cars in the mix at the penalty zone. 6 way finish, less than .8 sec between the 6 of us.

Still no CRB though, picked up an SR Down early in the race. Back to 99 SR, going the wrong way :dopey:

It's more about lapping clean and consistent in the race. I've done a few races off 18th on the grid and finished 4th by being quick-ish (2:09s), keeping out of the wall and avoiding penalties, even if it means braking to avoid nudges etc. Learn your braking point for the first corner and the last corner (where you'll do a good deal of overtaking - learn the inside and outside lines).

I watched that replay due to you getting called out at the end, and was almost certain the other driver was incorrect; yup, 100% wrong and a douche for the daft brake check. But that ghosting in front of the 2 of you just after the bridge chicane; mental! I wonder if the player ghosted themselves? It was all a bit weird!

I’d imagine SR A races are better quality than S because most drivers are trying to work their way back to S. Whereas some the drivers in the top bracket have the “What the hell, I’m already here and I’ve got a buffer” mentality and put out the elbows (or knives).

But I also complain about the SR system all the time.

I just had a guy try to take me out, then I get the penalty for it, then he called me a homophobic slur after the race lol. Wow, tonight is so bad for racing. I reported him twice, one for interference and once for illicit comments.
