Okay, had my first serious run in with the new penalty system at LS. Got punted lap 1 turn 1. No penalty. Lap 2 someone gets spun out several spots in front of me, saves it through the corkscrew then loses it on exit. Spins all over, finally I get there and hit him. 7 seconds.
Lap 4 the punter from lap 1 loses it. I laugh until after spinning all over I think I have him cleared and he clips my rear end on the way by. Another 7 seconds.:banghead::banghead:

I like Laguna Seca, but matchmaking is giving me some awful luck. My own driving isn't helping, but at least that is improving.

Felt I'd set a decent race C QT by my standards, and decided to brave the penalty system by having a go with my non-FIA account. Lobby came up, 3rd on grid, great.

Waiting for players to finish getting ready...

Screw this, I've got better things to do with my time than wait half an hour just to get disconnected when there's absolutely nothing wrong with my internet connection (usually shows as 5 bars, 4 at worst, during a race).

What the heck, man? The Slopra wasn't doing anything in this last race. It was hardly outdragging the Slophy behind me.

Car wouldn't turn at the start. Was sliding out at Hell Corner and I haven't even started the lap. Sloppy braking into T1. Slophy pulled alongside and I had no acceleration.

From the Cutting to the Dipper, horrible. I was slamming walls the whole length of that part of the track. Totally different to the car I was driving yesterday. I even paused to see if my controller settings were different. Car was way off in performance. Video shortly.

This is a little off topic, but WTF were Toyota thinking with the Supra?

I remember when the Supra was a pumped up version of the Celica. If they were going to revive the name, why didn't they deliver a pumped up version of the 86GT?

As for this week, I'm super hesitant. This updated penalty system has not been kind to me. Last week, I repeatedly got penalties for things that were both outside my control and things that I was in no way, shape, or form to blame for. This week's combinations sure seem like they are ripe to dole out more BS penalties, which is just frustrating.

The worst part is that, as I said, it's outside my control. It's not like I can drive safer!

i am enjoying the lower lobbies after having my 99 SR slayed in a similar fashion to what you describe

When was the Supra ever a pumped up Celica??
From the first version it was a bigger car with a six cylinder engine. Celica started out as a miniature muscle car with a inline four then became a rally car. Supra was always a GT car and a sports car.

Behold, the Celica Supra, which IMHO was the best of them. i ALMOST bought one....ALMOST, but I ended up buying and 86 Mustang GT instead.

I'd still buy one of these. It's like the girl that got away.

In the early 80s I believe the car was named Celica Supra. Like a Celica, but with a six cylinder...

Edit just saw @Voodoovaj post. A friend has one of those squirreled away, pretty cool. His is silver, all stock, He’s gotta work out a few electrical probs tho.
I wouldn’t mind a clean version Celica GT from that era, if I was a car collector, those were fun cars.
Kinda cool the 4 banger block was 22r like the truck haha.

I agree, with one caviat. They ruined the Celica in, I believe, 1983, when they went to front wheel drive. I had a '74 Celica, and it was like driving a slot car. Had a friend, that was good with alignments, set it up so that I wouldn't keep burning the outside edges of my front tires off. Lost some on-center feel, but it worked. I saw smoke billowing out of my front wheel wells more than once with that car(brakes!). She lived a hard life for 155k miles before the rear trailing arms ripped out of the frame due to rust and full throttle 1st-2nd power shifts.

Had some 8000-9000 DR races at Nurb GP in the Golf yesterday. In Super GT's most recent video about defending for an entire race he said something about the big difference between high and low rated lobbies was how lower-rated players will do things that you don't expect, that end up slowing you both down. You're five tenths ahead someone in a Mk I Golf going into a corner, you don't think to go defensive because you can't make a pass from there. Yet people do, and the car's too unresponsive to properly recover, and you end up at a disadvantage for the next corner and by then there's another car about to pass you.

It's grim stuff down here, lads.

No races yet this week, as I haven’t set respectable QT yet in any of the races.

I’m getting closer at Bathhurst. After starting the week running laps in the 2:20s, I’m running consistent 2:16s with a 2:15.7 as my fast lap.

I’m in the mid 24s at Laguna. I haven’t found a car I’m completely comfortable with yet, and the margin between fast and sausage curb is still kicking my butt.

I just noticed when creating a livery that all my decals under the “Collection” tab are gone but the ones I put under favorites are all still there.

Has this happened to anyone else? What a pain in the dick.

I've done 2 C races this week and I gotta say that the 911 RSR at Laguna Seca is just... SLOW! I don't understand why the races are full of them. Maybe it's a holdover from Interlagos 2 weeks ago but, (drove past a ton of them last week at Autopolis)I finally tried to race with the 911 after, literally, Never using it in dailies and I was disappointed.

BOP needs tweeking by PD... Needs more power or less weight. I'd like to race with the car... I'm a HUGE Porsche fan but the 911 and the Cayman GT4 are just not fun to drive in dailies.

Laguna Seca is fun. Feels a bit more.... real? in this version of GT. Maybe it's the tire model that makes it feel like I'm more challenged to place the car in the right groove and hit apexes correctly on this version of the track. In past GT games, it felt very easy to push a car hard and have no problems hitting apexes correctly and fast at Laguna Seca. There's some challenging turns on the track... Corkscrew is not one of them in my opinion. Turn 6 onto the Rahal Straight that leads up to Corkscrew... That's a challenging corner! Tough to get it right on worn tires and maintain speed. Same with Turn 9 right after Corkscrew, Rainey Curve... Speed, angle, apex, exit, control of the entire car and staying on the clean line. Challenging! I like it!

Didn't have any real issues with bad driving by others in a strong DR-B/SR-S race last night. Some really respectful and smart racers in that race. This morning's 5:30am race... enh... One idiot spoiled my race and another guys race and we let him know in the chat afterward. Of course he felt he did nothing wrong. Weaving all over the track to block the way faster car behind him and punting guys at multiple corners... But he did nothing wrong... Whatever.

This week will be fun with the C race. Might try a few rounds of the B race too. I feel like that might get a little crazy going up and down the mountain but we'll see. I've heard the A race is fun but slow. That might drive me nuts in an N100 car. Don't see myself doing that race but who knows? I might get bored.

Happy racing and Merry Christmas everyone!

I can relate as race A was carnage for me last week, my rankings went down to 🤬 and I got a ridiculous amount of penalties I wasn't at fault for. So, I genuinely thought no way I was going to fix my rankings with Laguna Seca.

Well, I'm surprised, I did two races so far and at some point I honestly questioned whether PD forgot to add penalties here because haven't seen many despite having seen many similar episodes to race A last week. Plus, I don't know if people are genuinely better with faster cars which have better grip or what it is, but it seems race C this week has much better drivers compared to same rankings on race A last week.

I don't think it was mentioned but SR down seems to have either switched off completely or is far less frequent since the update.

I've yet to be flagged for someone bump drafting me (which is great having been an issue since the Corvette at Blue Moon) nor have I got one for bumping a driver ahead. I haven't tested whether you still get one for invalid pit entry.

I assume (if disabled) it's a "dirty" fix for bump drafters although whether it still penalises clear brake checking, I'm not sure.

OK, that is a North America name. In Europe it was called the MkI Supra with the 2.8 liter six.
I had the Celica from 1976 and it was an amazing little scoot, it ran hard and fast as ****. Especially after mounting the Garrett Turbo from a Ford Escort Turbo and a close ratio gear box with a long first gear.
Soto me there has never been anything linking those together apart from the brand Toyota.
