While in the process of working on a new livery for the Gr.3 GT-R, I decided to do a Daily B quali run to see how well it would look in racing environments.

Ended up entering the 17:30 race by mistake. Got reminded about how tricky the GT-R is to handle on Hard compounds, which makes it especially important to shift early and set brake bias towards the front so that torque is manageable through corners. Fastest time was a 1:32.399, which was only good enough for 14th in a mostly A-ranked lobby.

Yes, A-ranked. Half of them turned up in Audis which didn't help matters (though there was at least one other GT-R starting in 8th).

Race itself wasn't too special. Got a 0.5 second penalty on the first lap for going over the green zone at Descida de Lago, and had to contend with taming the GT-R while coming under pressure from a pair of Audis right behind. The straight-line speed advantage helped massively in giving me some breathing space, and I was able to get a couple of spots when a Mercedes in front went off at Junção and another Audi served a penalty on Lap 3. Had to defend extra hard as I struggled to hit the apexes, but drifted wide at Descida de Lago again and got a 1-second penalty. Having already lost one place, I find myself going wide again at Turn 7, just as the other Audi who has been following me heads for the inside. At that point, the GT-R is squirming all over the kerbs, and while trying to correct the oversteer I end up clouting the side of said Audi as we enter the braking zone for Turn 8. This gives the Audi a 1-second penalty (which honestly I don't think he deserved as I should've paid closer attention to him on my radar), and a big enough portion of beef to brake-check me the next time we pass the start/finish line. Eventually finished 13th when yet another Audi spun out at Descida de Lago, not long after serving a penalty of his own.

The other GT-R did well, but got a 4-second penalty on the last lap for phasing through said Audi, going onto the green zone and getting tapped just before he spun. Very unlucky.

As far as my overall thoughts on this race are concerned, I think I'll stick to the qualifying runs for now...
 
Started the morning loverly.

Still no qualy for race B. Wound up in a ABCD room, last place 13/13.
Just hung back to see how players are racing. First two last were fine as I watched a GT-R and a couple Beetles having a clean scrap.

Lap 3 got ugly. An F1 was just sloppy after recovering from going off. Just messed up our Grove at the back. It was smashing into the other three players and I got off the gas. Waited patiently, as the F1 went from about 2-4 seconds worth of penalties.

Dispatched that and made a dash to catch up to 9th place GT-R. Side by side on the front straight, it finished a Billy goat's hair width ahead at the line.

Race C was no pressure on myself. Surprised to start P3(me and the two leaders are the only A/S and times in 1:31 range). RM tyres and I'll pit end of Lap 6. Pole RC F was on RH. Got overtaken by 2nd place GT-R into T1. I just cruised behind in 3rd until 2nd lap and passed the RC F before the 130R.

P1 pitted early for another set of RMs. I stayed cruising.

Did my pit stop and came out 4th. Pole RC F just ahead still on RH. Running long.

The early pit GT-R is coming back to me. It pits lap 9. I manage the lead by 4-5 seconds for the rest of the race , finishing with a CRB. Good stuff..

Drunk moments in racing:

I started race B in 2nd. P1 took off and I was battling with P3 for the first 2 laps. Finally I got the best of him and he fell back, then I went by some clown who was ghosted who apparently couldn't keep his car on the track. After a bit, I looked up to see how many seconds I was behind P1. It wasn't showing. What the hell?
Oh, damn. That ghosted idiot I passed was P1. Easy win. :lol:

Should you be allowed to race if you manage to get 15s of penalties in the first lap? Woof.

Even with getting punted to the great white north, I didn’t finish last this time. Maybe the first time this week, haha.

I think I still have >5k to lose to get to DR C.

Pole Position win on New Year's Day 2020

New year, new win! Got Pole Position, Fastest Lap and managed to keep 1st place by the end of the race. Even though the combination has been overdone, I still really enjoy Gr.3 cars at Interlagos. Also have grown really comfortable with the F-Type Gr.3; it took me a long time to find a Gr.3 car that I can handle well and this wild cat is rather tamable. It's fun if 2nd and 3rd are engaged in a battle; by the 4th lap, they had became so engaged battling for positions that I was pulling ahead quite a bit.

Not digging Gr.2 at Fuji, though. Either I don't know the course too well or the car's very uncomfortable for me to handle; I think it's moreso the latter. I'd rather be driving Gr.1 cars
 
Well I only put in one race tonight, race B. Started P1 and rode it out for a CRB with the AMG, but a pesky 911 kept Hawking me down in the first sector. I've switched up cars to try and brake into 1:31's but no luck. Still on this 32.1. I'm going to buy the Astin Martin and try it next.

MR cars are a different breed... You need to have a small amount of gas on at all times. I usually use brakes and gas at the same time with those, but I am a far way from competitive in any MR. Slightly better in the Mclaren 650 but not even in that.

They are horrible for the most part. Especially the Group 3 MR cars. The Group 4 ones are fine and handle really well, but for some reason the Group 3 ones feel worse. The Ferrari 458 GT3, Lamborghini Huracan GT3, Audi R8 GT3 and the GT by Citroen Group 3 are not very stable. Then you have the Ford GT, McLaren F1 and Porsche 911 RSR which are much more manageable... I've won quite a few races in the Porsche. I get the feeling that some of the default setups are really bad, which limits the amount of usable cars. The Ferrari is terrible, and it always feels on edge. The car doesn't seem to have enough rear grip and the power seemingly cuts out too fast. It's as if the engine braking is too harsh, and not enough fuel is being pumped into the engine when you lift off. In the case of the differential, the coast ramp is probably responding too fast, and the power ramp is too violent coming out of the corner. Then again it could be a simple matter of a sloppy rear spring setting, or a shallow camber angle.

(I've learnt all of this through Project Cars; I'm sorry if the terminology is confusing but it's the best way for me explain what's happening. I know that engine braking, coast ramp and power ramp cannot be adjusted, however PD could've used the wrong values in the code which make the aforementioned cars fundamentally flawed)
 
Engine braking issues is a possibility but you would notice some serious decel in straight line speeds. There would have to be enough resistance it mimics a pair of dragging calipers on the rear. Also I would suspect this problem wouldn't be limited to the MR cars. Even with light throttle around a corner the rear end is loose. An odd suspension setup and/or combo of bad weight distribution/center of mass is my bet. Also I'm just speculating incomplete understanding of game mechanics based on limited information about said mechanics.

They could just change the rear suspension settings to improve it. It literally would be the easiest thing to do. Or let us adjust weight ballast, I want more tuning options like we had before. Maybe the next GT will have it.
 
I've found engine braking to be a big help in MR cars for slowing. The keys seem to be using it in a straight line, and not downshifting too soon. If I downshift too soon it must be locking the rears because braking distances increase, and if you do it while turning in with any revs, away you go to loopy land!:scared:

On another note, since B and C seem to be a DR and SR killer for me lately, I decided to do some hot laps in the 86. Did about 20 laps total. Did 5 or 6 and reset after a big off, then got my time down to a 23.1 on L5 of my second stint. Did another 8 or 10 laps after that, and was up .3 and even .4 at multiple spots on the track on various laps, then lost it all back somewhere else. Reset again, switched to my lucky blue car, and finaly got my 22. (2.22.748) on the first lap out. I switched accounts and raced 2 races from the back. Both had polesitters with 23.1 times, both races I finished second. The last race got me FL of 23.0, mostly because of a huge draft between the docks and the pit hairpin. Finished .3 back.
I seem to be having better luck running from the back in race A. When in front, the people around me try to barge past at the docks, and usually either take me out or give me a big penalty. When starting from the back, I end up driving through all the ghosts at the docks, and usually catch up to the 2 to 5 cars of the lead group by the pit hairpin. By then things are usually settled a bit, and those guys want to play nice and stay ahead of the carnage. They may try to block when they see you coming, but they won't swerve all over for fear that they'll get loose and bin it. So far all my races from the back have been pretty good!
 
Races like this are why I play the game. Had so much fun fighting my way up from P20. Great battles and chases almost the entire time. One of the best things about Fuji is that it’s so wide and offers a variety of lines when navigating traffic. Enjoy!

 
Fuji and Gr.2 Race was a lot of fun. My first race, I decided to qualify at the back of the pack. Started on the Medium tires, since I didn't figure out how to change it. Kept trying to do the rears, instead of the fronts. Was in a group of C and B drivers, but with all S ranking. Managed to finish 4th, from 10th or so. I had one big screw up, on the last turn, ran wide, and spun it around. If I didn't do that, I probably could have gotten 3rd. Noticed 3rd place, must not have pit, because they had a 20 second penalty, at the end of the race. Which bumped the guy in front of me to 3rd, and me to 4th.

Once I got done with that race, and collected my daily car(R8 Gr.3). Did another race, but this time I was able to switch to hards first. This time I was mixed with B, A, and A+. Started 13/16, had some good battles, and mostly didn't force my way into things, like some others have. On the last lap, I went three wide into the first turn, I was on the inside, but backed out a little early, but still manged to get beside the second guy by corner exit, but of course, the next turn, was not in my favor. Tried getting close in the middle sector, and setup for one last drag race, at the end, but to no avail. Ended up 9th at that race.

I haven't played GT Sport in that capacity in a long time, so when I was done, I could feel that I was sweating a little!
 
Oh well. I had my one good race. Ended up in a dog fight with some pushy drivers and a BS penalty system. It sucks when I drive like hell to make a few DR points and clean up ST and then I get tanked because others aren't controlling their cars. I know I am not the smoothest driver and make mistakes, but it is still a pain when I lose 3 or 4 times that due to a BS penalty system. On the whole it was good. 2 races where it was mostly clean but a few minor niggles. 1 race that sucked. Counts as a solid night in my books.

Only two races in so far, but I can see I'm going to be very tense when I get close to 15!!!
 
Bizarre week. Race C. New Years day, and my first race for a while. I get the full house - Pole, Fastest lap, Clean Race, lights to flag win. I just simply drove away from the field.

Now I'm feeling pretty good. Next race is a fun scrap and I bring it home mid-pack.

Then last night, Start something like 14th, and finish last by a mile. Got tangled up with a few others in the opening laps, but basically I was deservedly last, my pace relative to the others was nowhere.

The highs and the lows...

As I've barely raced all of December, and I've got a couple of days now where I should be able to get quite a few races in, I'm having a go at the 15 clean races trophy, far too scared to try it while actually racing, so sitting at the back and avoiding other cars like the plague!! Only two races in so far, but I can see I'm going to be very tense when I get close to 15!!!

When he's not throwing terrorists off Nakatomi Plaza it's good to know that John McClane plays GTSport. He also knows the right thing to do when you miss your braking point!

Any newbies please note, his swerve to avoid an accident meant he only lost a single position, and they had a penalty to serve anyway. Always avoid the accident if you can 👍

Cheers, I've now made it to 8, and my DR is down to 65, was driving around between a couple of races and forgot to go through the pits, so accidentally set a qualifying time, it's not great, but it's pouring me midfield instead of the back, so I'm pulling over before the start to let them all past!!! Had a couple of scares, but got away with them, don't think Sven has to worry about his record, I'll be back to normal racing after 15 if I get that far!!!
 
2 goes at race C first on my main account was just a sea of dodgy and slightly dirty moves while the second race on my second account was insane. Firstly I get a 7 second penalty for getting crashed into on lap 1 which droped me from 11th to last and dead last after the penalty. Managed to recover to P10 after a race which felt like a demo Derby
 
Any tips on the final corner for Interlagos in the 911 RSR? Whats the best gear to use? Brakingpoint? Stuck on 32.4 and know I can get to .31.

I can't manage to get 911 RSR under 32.8, so you are flying man! :D:D My excuse is that I've only started playing the game 3 weeks ago, so well, in racing the good excuse is important same as the pole position. :lol: But in races I've seen that I gain time on opponents most of the time through final corner, I approach the braking point (few meters before the 50 mark) just shifting up to 4th, then hard braking and two quick downshifts into 3rd and 2nd before turning, not taking too much curb, and then early on the throttle immediately after the apex. Brake balance -1 or -2.

PS: new user here, been reading these threads for a while now (even before I got GT Sport :lol:), finally decided to register, community here seems great, cheers to all! :cheers:

I can't say I know what the aliens are doing, but for me, in the 911, first gear is a must. Even my best corner speed through there leaves plenty of revs in first gear, and anything but my best line/speed through the corner, and i REALLY need the accel of first to get a good drive.

Edit: I think almost every other GR3 car I've tried I use 2nd. There are a couple where 3rd is even possible. One thing I do when checking these types of things out is, make sure your ghost is on, put down a clean, fast lap and try to remember how you felt at that corner ( good entry and speed, good drive?), then try it in another gear and watch the gap. If you used 2nd and the gap seemed steady up to and thru the corner, and now you're trying 1st, and you make up time coming out, it's probably a better choice. If you try it a couple of times and are always making up time, it's a win. If you set a new fast lap (new ghost) try going the other way. If you always loose time in 2nd and the ghost lap is 1st, you have an answer.
