Well with my new qualifying time I started 3rd and got punted off the track at the first hairpin all the way to last... sigh.

Next race starting 4th, at least I'm on the inside going into the puntfest!

Nice to see penalties return again, although the system itself is still a bit flawed, but I'll take that over no penalty system at all.

Having done a few race B's last night, the only penalties I received were for exceeding track limits and being hit by someone re-entering the track at the exit of turn 10. And when I say hit, I mean is front end into the side of my car, as he came onto the track perpendicularly giving me a 2 second penalty before he quit the race.

In another situation, I believe I should have received a penalty and didn't. One of those circumstances where the car in front brakes harder than you expected and you rear end them, but due to lag and other factors the slight nudge that you give them sends them to the shadow realm, except this time the shadow realm was the car in front, and the car I hit received the force of two impacts and spun out. Somehow, despite being the sole cause of this accident, I received no penalty.

So yeah, having the penalty system back is great, but it is still by no means close to a perfect system.

I actually have received a few penalties tonight. One for making contact on someone diving to my inside. Twice for punting - once accidental, the other "in the name of research." (And I'm sticking to that story.)

I made it all the way to the chicane without getting a penalty or getting punted in the first lap, and then I managed to get punted and take 8 seconds of penalties between the chicane and the start/finish line. I finished 13th and I’m the dickbag who is in SR A now, haha.

Edit: 23 SR down. I’m actually impressed. It wasn’t aggressive driving...mostly just messy driving in traffic after trying to get back in the track after the chicane.

Tried another Race A. Started Pole. Finished 1st.

My 1st time winning from pole on Tsukuba. I usually get creamed staying outside.

Also got to 9 consecutive Clean Races for the 1st time. Although I did quit once. Whatever. it counts.

This was my second race B tonight. The first one was a bit rough and I did get one of the newly re-instated penalties (1s) that took my SR from 99 to 94.
So this race I wanted to be very careful with the objective of a clean race and to stay away from any stupidity on the track. It was an enjoyable race that was pretty clean. I think people are understanding that the penalties are back.
Enjoy:

I ran 3 great races after. I did another C, and made it through the first corner unscathed and went back and forth with P2/P3 the entire race. I ended up in P3 after getting a little squirrelly on the run up to the corkscrew on the last lap.

I ran 2 As after. Both rough on the first lap and both smoothed out. I didn’t get a lot of opportunities to pass. I finished P4 and P3 as a C in a split B/C room. I’m a race or 2 from going back to B I hope.

I finally raced in a very clean Race C this week. At first, I was pretty intimidated as I was one of only two DR.C drivers in a mostly B lobby (with a few A drivers). The first few laps were a little bumpy but much better than previous races I've had on Laguna this week. I settled into the middle of the pack, hoping just to hold my own with this crowd. Eventually P6 makes a mistake ahead of me, I catch him and we start battling. Then P5 makes a mistake ahead of us and the next thing I know I'm in the midst of a three way fight for the remainder of the race. I honestly don't know if three people have ever fought so hard for P5 while remaining aware, respectful and clean. We jostled and jockeyed for 4-5 laps. This is probably the most proud I've been of a P6 since I started playing this game. It's not going to get better than this for me tonight, see you all tomorrow.

Epic battle. Started P2,Check finished P2. FR stability versus MR cornering speed. No touching or bumping or blocking. Check the fastest laps.

Check the fastest laps.
I guess that in the event of a tie, the title goes to the driver / car that achieved the time first. Or possibly the game "measures" the lap time to higher accuracy than is displayed and the title is awarded based on the higher precision that is not displayed.

My first all B race... Ouch, that was hard. I moved up two spots, lost 600dr

Edit: followed by a mixed B/C race that was the roughest I have been in since return of the penalties..

Usually in racing the one who has the time first gets the reward (fastest lap, pole position etc.)
F1 in Jerez 1997 is the best example for that

Only really been doing Race C's from the back on my second account this week, but having a lot of fun with it.

In the below clip I wasn't surprised that the penalty system didn't know wtf to do but was still disgruntled it decided it was all my fault. Quite a dirty lobby, which meant despite all that on lap 1 and serving the 7 second penalty I still finished 9th!

Excellent. You went to the effort, so I will use this. Shame there are no races which allow the safety cars.

Any chance of some "No win, no fee", "Where there's a blame, there's a claim", "ambulance chaser" type stuff to complete the set? I've not had time to search yet but I'm hoping to find some medical insurance and the like, too.

Thankfully, that decal was super easy, so it didn't take long. Anything else will take a little time.

We need something for @O604 .. he's TPC's auto insurance claim assessor after all .

Yes, he does deserve something else to easily identify him as our claims adjuster.

now this is some "rage insta delete the game" material , you managed to avoid all these cars going sideways beautifully , correct me if i'm wrong but you didnt seem to touch anybody either , YET penalty is yours

its like the game thinks you couldnt gain that many positions cleanly

Next week's races
A: N200 - Autopolis - 3 laps - Sports Hard
B: Gr.4 - Sardegna Road B - 4 laps - Racing Hard
C: Gr.3 - Mount Panorama - 9 laps - Racing Hard - x3 fuel, x7 tyres

Well, it had been a week or two since we had autopolis, right? Can't let that happen. (Do people actually enjoy racing there? Bah.).

I like Sardegna and Gr4 is my binky, so that'll probably be my track next week. I've never raced the mountain on Gr 3, but maybe I'll give it a few practice laps when I'm frustrated by the dailies this week.

I'll try and do something this weekend.

I went on to finish 9th, so if anything it's a lesson in why you should never give up ;)

I've watched it a few times and I THINK it's the red car that I make contact with at the exit of the right hander. Even though I'm already so wide I have two wheels in the dirt, they kinda hit me, and if you watch the radar they swerve all the way over to the right and go off track.

The green car driven by trojan was dirty AF, shoving everyone out of their way. I was very happy to finish ahead of them :)

It's all good though and what second accounts are for

I'm not sure if it happens at higher DR levels, but my experience in the Low B/High C rooms is that the people who set the highest QT often seem to get taken out in the first couple corners, and then it's not so hard to catch up. In one of my races on Monday or Tuesday, I started 2nd, was booted to last, and then within a couple of laps had caught up to the end of the main pack in P7ish only 5 seconds behind the leader. The person who wins has only taken the FL lap once I think in the races I've participated in (it was the race I finished 3rd in last night -- he beat me and the guy in 2nd by like 10 seconds or something). It's more about having some luck and getting through the scrum, and then running consistent laps even if they are not particularly fast.

Looks like race C next week might be my saviour :odd:.

On to race B in the here and now. I went in with the 'vette and was consistently lapping faster than with the R.S.01 in qualy. Unfortunately I couldn't string together a proper lap, loosing time sideways, so my starting position was P10/16... a bit up on yesterday.

I was having to hold back a lot on the first lap because I couldn't hit the throttle when I was ready to. cars started to squabble and come off and I was a bit free-er, but after tapping a guy in front (my fault) and gaining a 1s penalty and an orange SR, the handling also seemed to be affected , I had to take corners a lot slower than I was able to before . Anyhoo, I just got on with it, the gap behind me kept growing, I managed to close the gap in front, but more from them making a mistake... I just couldn't get the power down when I wanted and turn in was sluggish. In the end I finished P7.

SR down 3 (it seems a single contact is worth 3 SR.. that's what I lost last night too). DR went up 170. The DR/C journey continues... just.

My second account is mid DR:A, and starting at the back seems like the safest option to be honest. Every race I've been on for a top 10 finish, and when I've failed in that it's usually because of a self inflicted error. As you say, survive the first few corners, which tends to be easier right at the back, and then consistent laps gets a decent result nearly every time.

I do like the grid starts for that. With the spaced out rolling starts if you're not starting in the top 7 or 8 then forget a high finish.

I'm not brave enough to take my A+ account into the carnage

Interested for Race C next week although that sounds like another no stopper. Whatever happened to strategy in race C :(
