I'm not sure if it happens at higher DR levels, but my experience in the Low B/High C rooms is that the people who set the highest QT often seem to get taken out in the first couple corners, and then it's not so hard to catch up. In one of my races on Monday or Tuesday, I started 2nd, was booted to last, and then within a couple of laps had caught up to the end of the main pack in P7ish only 5 seconds behind the leader. The person who wins has only taken the FL lap once I think in the races I've participated in (it was the race I finished 3rd in last night -- he beat me and the guy in 2nd by like 10 seconds or something). It's more about having some luck and getting through the scrum, and then running consistent laps even if they are not particularly fast.
That's exactly what I am seeing. I just rose to B and are falling back to C I think. In almost every race I am starting around 9-13, with a Qt of 2:00, but in race I tend to go 2:00-2:01 while the people qualifying ahead seems to go slower or at least be wildly inconsistent. I moved up between 5 and 9 spots in the upper C lobbies, but in the pure B lobby I moved up one.

Edit: I usually get the countdown so I go live right before the last turn. That means that when I get to t1 I am about 1 to 1:5 seconds ahead of the guy behind me and right behind the one ahead. Mustang Sally still serves me well.

The person out front doesn't get any benefit from the draft.

What can I say, I'm a slave to my driver rating :dopey:

Seize the day! With great risk comes great reward! No pain no gain! No guts, no glory! Why not go out on a limb... isn't that where the fruit is? If you don't play you can't win! A ship in a harbour is safe, but that's not what ships were build for! To win without risk is to triumph without glory! Security is mostly a superstition, life is either a daring adventure or nothing! ........

Only really been doing Race C's from the back on my second account this week, but having a lot of fun with it.

In the below clip I wasn't surprised that the penalty system didn't know wtf to do but was still disgruntled it decided it was all my fault. Quite a dirty lobby, which meant despite all that on lap 1 and serving the 7 second penalty I still finished 9th!

That’s a fun clip to watch. You get slight side contact with driver on your inside at T3 and then he drives off the track on the right hand side to avoid cars in the middle which triggers your penalty.

Then, to top it off he comes back on the track and hits someone else into you sending you off at T4!

If minimal side contact is enough to trigger that level of penalty for off track and barrier collision, Panorama is going to be fun next week.

I finally raced in a very clean Race C this week. At first, I was pretty intimidated as I was one of only two DR.C drivers in a mostly B lobby (with a few A drivers). The first few laps were a little bumpy but much better than previous races I've had on Laguna this week. I settled into the middle of the pack, hoping just to hold my own with this crowd. Eventually P6 makes a mistake ahead of me, I catch him and we start battling. Then P5 makes a mistake ahead of us and the next thing I know I'm in the midst of a three way fight for the remainder of the race. I honestly don't know if three people have ever fought so hard for P5 while remaining aware, respectful and clean. We jostled and jockeyed for 4-5 laps. This is probably the most proud I've been of a P6 since I started playing this game. It's not going to get better than this for me tonight, see you all tomorrow.

I know that feeling. Win doesn't matter when you have this kind of races. Had a similar race this morning. I was 8/9 and figthing with 7 and 6 for half the race. Starting last without a QT, I knew I would pull a gap if I got passed but they were fast enough. I never had a big enough momentum swing to try to outbrake them for a move without risking bumping.

When it goes for so long you don't want to risk it and ruin an awesome race!

Tried a Race B this morning. QT 1:58.723. Started 4th. Finished 2nd. Also extended Clean Races to 10.

I did tap the car in front once and was tapped from behind once and it felt like the game adjusted both times so the cars did not lose position.

Good, clean racing for me yesterday and today. 👍

I tried race B. It was a mistake. The penalties are far from being fixed.

I started 4th and everything went fine until the field reached the Haug-Hook at the end of start finish. An AMG slammed into my side and I got 2 seconds. Then he again slammed into my side in the Mercedes Arena and spun me off to the runoff but he also went off the track. He again smashed me exiting the Mercedes Arena this time in a perfect angle: I went off, got another 3 seconds while he went his merry way with nothing. When I came over the crest approaching Müllenbach-Hairpin I saw about 6 cars serving their penalty. I went to 15th and finished 11th.

I watched the replay: the system seems to hand out penalties without rhyme or reason. I don‘t get wtf PD is doing.

I lost 12 SR but only 600 DR.

Edit: 2nd attempt. Another 1s (though this time I had my fair share on it). Lost 2SR for 1s, gained one Position due to the driver befor me spun out (4th->3rd for me) and gained 500 DR.

I feel like Poly got annoyed with everyone asking the penalty system to be improved so they took away virtually all penalties for what, 2-3 weeks? Now penalties are back and still not fixed. It's like their saying, 'you can have no penalties or this system. There is no alternative.'

Jumped back in the fray last night... We have some sort of penalty system again so I tried my luck. Turned out pretty well.

Qualified with a 1:59.016 in my trusty Corvette for the B race at Nurburgring GP. Started 6th on the first race I ran. Had a little incident at the chicane where I was the "meat in the sandwich"... Going through that chicane 3 wide doesn't work and I wish the guy who tried to navigate that on my left understood that but whatever. He hit me, that made me hit the guy on my right and that "forced" him off track... 2 second penalty for me and I was just a passenger on that ride of bumper cars through the chicane. Oh well. Finished that race in 7th. Surprisingly, DR went up a little bit.

Second race of the night, I started 8th. Got spun by someone in a 4C at turn one on lap one. No big deal. After that, had a great race with 2 Porsches for most of the race. Pulled off a great pass on lap 3 going into the chicane. Finished the race 6th. DR up. Everyone seemed well behaved enough in the 2 races I ran. I didn't see any real stupidity in front of me or in my rear view. Much better experience that when the penalties were turned off. I'll be racing more now that there's some "law" in the races.

I really hope these penalty fests are just because there are still many drivers with a lower natural SR than S in S (interesting sentence) bringing disturbance into the field. Seriously, it‘s like the guys we have on german market places here selling their stuff by promoting their goods with screams. They are called „Marktschreier“ (‚Market crier‘). But instead of „And for you sir I got a geniune salami and a black forest ham!!!“ it‘s like „Hey! I got 2 seconds for you and for you and for the guy with the ugly nose I have only 1s because I feel compassion for him“

Oh, finally gr 3 on the mountain!!

(And Sardegna is a great track too! I forsee a GT86 in Race A, though)
My Supra might have something to say about that. Has a shorter wheelbase than the 86, for tighter cornering. ;)

Did full in back to back racing blitz in Race B. Used real world(close to) GT3 cars that are racing at this weekend's Bathurst 12H(ironic, that's next week's daily race C):

M6
NSX
AMG GT3
R8
GT-R
458
Vantage
650S
Lamborghini

Had my best races( 4th/th were my average starting positions) using the M6, GT-R, Vantage, R8.
I don't use the MR cars much, but in that short time, I see why many use them. The NSX felt to have the best cornering in that MR group. Once up to speed, I kept pulling away from the more popular R8. The 650s felt good too.

Anyway, my worst races were when I used the MR cars. Not due to my inexperience, but having to slow up for cars that were too slow in corners. This allowed the cars behind to catch up and pick better lines to attack for passing.
Straight ruined lots of my races. However, worst I finished was 10th.

The RSRs were really holding me up.
One of the cool races was me following and trying to pass an RC F '17, using the NSX. That Big Lex has the grunt. Plus, that player was doing the out in out driving line. Making full use of the track for better performance. Good to see a how my favortite GT3 performs in the right hands. Guess that's how it looks when people are behind me.:sly: Saved all the replays. Good stuff.

Harsh! You clearly slowed at turn 2 and you’re the one pushed left after turn 4.

Working days is really messing with my game/track time lol had only an hour or so the last two days to try and do qualifying laps. Then wife gets home and there is to much distraction to put in good times and especially to race. Tonight she works late though, so i plan on racing for a few hours when i get home...... after my free after work beverage of course.

This is a fun one but who is at fault?

a) Me, for :censored:Posting before the race
b) The black Mercedes (or the car behind which had pushed him)
c) The grey/red Audi for [insert your own description]
d) The penalty system for unjust penalties causing revenge
e) All of the above

B

This new penalty system is weird, and overly-sensitive.
Here's me getting two penalties, with no reason given.

-The first one, I guess I bumped the blue car before he went off (I didn't take his position, though). That's fine. I'll take the heat for that one.
-The only thing I can come up with for the second one is that I touched the gray car a few seconds before he touched the blue car, who went off the track again.

I ended up being the only person with a red S, and these were the only incidents I had (other than one track limit violation for 0.5).
SR went from 99 to 94. I don't really care that much, but it seems like SR downs take away more points than they used to.
Under previous penalty systems, if these were your only incidents in an 11 lap race, you would definitely still be blue at the end.

You're right -- your QTs are just terrible

I think my wife is going to ask me to watch something on Netflix with her tonight, so I might not get any laps in. I haven't spent any time qualifying since Monday and I think I could improve my times, although they'll still be well short of yours.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't know if i can do much better than my current times. Tsukuba is hard for me to get a top 100 time on always, and i feel like i am way off on a few turns at laguna. Keep at it and keep pushing, and you'll probably be putting in faster times than me sooner or later.

Looks like penalties are being applied just for being near an accident - happened to me at the corkscrew when a car, 10 metres in front of me, went off track with nobody else near him, and I got a 2 second penalty

Like you, I was the only one at the end of the race with a red SR.....

Got down to a 1:55.069 for daily race B, its 4th EMEA at the minute but plenty of week left to come. I think there is a 54.9 in there but i would have to have not far off my PB in every sector, so may try some different cars instead rather than slowly lose my mind thanks to the last chicane
