THEY'RE NOT ALL BAD!
After enjoying the second Supra race last night, I felt like getting in a couple of Daily Races. Not smart- Sunday evenings have been absolute shark pools of nonsensical poor sportsmanship, and DR/SR killers for me in the past.
But against better judgement, jumped in to the Daily Race B at DTG... because I know and like the track well, and could take the wheel of my comfortable 911 RSR, in case I needed to defend myself, would be most adept with that, even if not as fast as I wished it was there.
My fears were increased when the reality of being matched with door #4 and gridded 15th, the last of anyone with a legitimate qualifying time. Oh no, this surely was a mistake. But to my surprise, it was one of the best and most fun Dailies I've ever been in. Very fast, very clean, very close racing with four or five others, and was able to fight up to 4th place, before losing two spots at the finish line for going over the first chicane's right side curb (knew it immediately... was just trying like hell not to over cook it on the first left hander, and undershot the whole thing, more so than trying to cut the curb.) Ended up with positive DR to get me to a new all-time high, even with that high door number and having started in the back.
It was some of the best close-quarters racing I've been part of... hats off to the other drivers for showing respect too and making it fun. From the middled of the 3rd lap to the end of the 4th lap was especially epic, and all at 1:33/lap pace, which is pretty quick for a race in a A/B lobby, I think.
On-board view (better conveys the frantic nature of this race!) (I drive in 'bumper cam' mode... I wish the replay onboard was not 'driver's eye' but instead simulated an onboard GoPro mounted in the car...)
One guy, who was behind me thru most of this in a green Lancer, called me 'trash' in the lobby chat after... no idea why, except that he must have gotten me confused with someone else- either someone that hit him in the first chicane, which allowed me to pass by (I was three behind him when that happened) or the car that hit him in the final section (I was ahead of him, so not sure why he'd confuse me there). I defended myself otherwise, especially when I left the door open only because I was making sure I didn't take out the squirrely Subaru in front of me, but was never even close to dirty driving... that's why I have tried to stop calling out people in the lobby, it's easy to be wrong.
But: AWESOME race, and a great way to end the weekend. I was smart enough to not try to beat that, and called it a night after this one and done.
