No idea what I am doing wrong in qualifying in race c, I ran a 48.8 with an optimal of 48.6 so not like I am messing up my sectors. I just don't have the pace of my fellow low A and high B drivers.

Come the race names starting 12th to 16th but finishing top 7, some of that inside to incidents nut my pace is fine, I can run with these guys in race trim.

Weird.

There's a big difference between setting a unicorn qualifying and racing against other people. Apart from not being able to take their ideal lines due to traffic, their mental toughness and ability to strategize come into play. Every brain CPU cycle spent worrying about other drivers and making mistakes is a cycle not spent thinking about optimizing their entry/exit and how to control the lines of other drivers to their advantage.

Also with Race C you can add in tire wear, fuel weight, and pit stops to the CPU equation. Much different driving experience. Move up to FIA and you have actual qualifying to weed out those drivers.

Are you using Mediums to Qualy?

It took 5 laps in the Vantage to beat my Viper lap from last night! This car is a brilliant drive and hopefully I can push it into the 1'44's next session with a bit of luck... Super smooth drive here at the seaside and it glides through the CoD like a hot knife through butter ;)👍

I highly recommend this car

Yikes. Taking the Vette out for a few rounds of wreckfest in race B. Definitely a few people who dont know brakes or leaving room. Been punted a few times in random spots. Died at the chicane once each race.

But man, I have some real hatred for FF drivers at the moment. They are trying to blast up the inside, but have no brakes or exit speed to do it so they just dive in, ram you when you think you are clear.

RCZ are absolute roadblocks in any section of track involving a turn. But had some good racing mixed in there. Now to drive like a grandparent to get my SR back up. Nestled in the low 80s at the moment.

Edit: 2 clean races. 1 CRB, accidentally tapped the wall at the chicane in the other race. Got a p3 where we both slid the final turn all wrong and ended up in a drag race to the line, I lost by 0.03. Next race just gapped the field with leader pulling away. I am holding close while easing through the chicane each lap to get CRB. It pays off. Last lap they bin it there and I cruise to the win.:D

I will take luck if I can get it.

I was in the 8:10 waiting for matching, with 1:35 to go. Cancelled and now playing GTA V. Thought, "What else do I have to prove this week?". Ain't worth the headache in my downtime before nite nite.

Wait what? It defaults to hard, I cant choose medium. Friends times are too close to be set on mediums.
You definitely can choose medium, because I just did.

Make sure you select the front tyres first. If you select the rears first, all options are greyed out because they must match the fronts.

How in the world do people actually expect to get away with stuff like this???
I truly believe that the people who don't retaliate are to blame. Quit acting like pussies! You're putting the rest of us in danger.
When you let this sort of thing slide, they keep doing it to other people.
The best racing we had was when the penalties were turned off for a month or so, and people freely dished out their own vigilante justice.

Honest question here, do you really think any type of lesson was learned using revenge tactics? For me personally i would remember the name of the person and make sure i see them the next race. I cant imagine revenge punting taught anyone anything. Whats the old saying, 2 wrongs dont make a right?!!?

Hazarded a couple of runs in the Race C at Monza last night, against better judgement (raced with @NevilleNobody for the first time, I think). While it wasn't super clean in Lap 1 especially, it wasn't awful, running from the back without a QT, in the McLaren F1 and Corvette. Was able to fight up to mid-field pretty easily, if careful to avoid the inevitable first and second chicane problems on lap 1. The thing is: Monza is a heckuva fun track to race on, when raced clean. The cars are on the edge through Ascari, and the prospects of setting up a draft-assisted pass into either chicane is a great challenge, and rewarding when done well (and respectfully).

That said, I'm definitely glad to have an Alt account to race it on, as there is certainly a risk to your SR and DR. But along with some fun races at DTS in the Gr4 cars (shared a grid with @x5abotagex86 last night as well... maybe the race he posted about), it hasn't actually been bad in the Dailies this week, so far for me, in high-B/S lobbies. Still going to try the Race A if I get a chance, as it seems like a fun change of pace.

It may not teach them a lesson but it feels damn good. Lol.

I remember names as well to put them on the list.

Hey guys, when I start on pole (on races with a flying start) the guy behind me always gets a much better start than me and nearly catches me when we arrive at the first corner, am I doing something wrong or is it always like that? My traction control is on 0 when I start a race and I use automatic gear shifting btw.

Put your TCS on 1 to start race then knock it down when you change up 1

Draft. Unless your car has a significant accleration advantage, the car(s) behind have draft to help.

Glad to share the grid! Don’t remember though :(, Next time!

Weird.

It's a matter of where you can get away with cutting the corners. Monza is quite strict but you can still cut inside quite a bit at Roggia and Ascari. Going smoothly over the sausage at Roggia saves a lot of time. Maybe track limits are also more forgiving in qualifying? Do they negate the lap time anyway since a cut at Roggia and Ascari doesn't have to be served until the next lap...

I haven't really seen it mentioned, but the astroturf physics in this game are really weird:

What's weird is that Lesmo is now very forgiving. Going wide onto the (light) green used to be a death sentence, now you can keep on going and merge back onto the road no problem. You spin out when it changes to the dark green at the kerb, that's still an avoid at all cost.

Yes, it works. They won't do it again when they find out they poked the wrong bear. It doesn't work for your own race though nor your SR. Getting away with it leads to positive reinforcement and they'll do it again.

Nah I was just running hards not mediums!

In saying that, yeah I pick my battles int he races, knowing when to stay out of a fight and pick off the carcass that inevitably follows. I have also gained spots with guys running out of fuel.

The fuel multiplier is killing me though, i want to do 6 then 4 but cannot get 6 laps out of her and I use a LOT of gas so lose time in the pits.

Kosmo what's your gts username? I have a replay from last night I'll check to see if you were there.
I'll give you a hint: my alt account and your username have something in common! Homenum Revelio might help you identify me.

As mentioned by someone else, as the leader you are unfortunately a sitting duck if a strong draft allows the cars behind to gain momentum behind then slingshot a pass at the first turn. Not always the case, but at a track like Monza, a factor. Especially if the car behind has any advantage in the acceleration at all, compared to you.

But I'd also offer that if you are using AT that the shift points may be compromised compared to MT, or at least some other disadvantage between AT and MT is working against you.

I do not agree that you should run TCS at 1, on a flying start, the potential for wheel spin is minimal and you will be giving up some power during the shifts, as TCS errs on the side of caution with some cutoff during the shifts. You are correct to leave it at 0 if you are comfortable with that. (For a grid start... sure: rely on TCS:1 until you've got at least 2nd gear, sometimes 3rd, if you get through the first corner or so.)

Rockin the Ferarri. This is what several of my races looked like...There’s more TT behind them, they are all tryin to catch the rabbit er prancing horse and trying to kill it and me...They have not succeeded.

Yeah, for some people. Others might just enjoy the fighting.
Look at it like criminal justice. Some people come out of prison and change their ways, because they definitely want to avoid going back. Some are beyond reform, and will go right back to re offending.
Society would certainly be worse off if we decided not to punish anybody, just because some of them don't learn their lesson.

I guess we are all wired differently. When I'm cleanly passing another car, and they try to ram me off the track just because their ego can't handle being passed, my reaction is often instantaneous and violent, without any thought process occurring. :guilty:

*Possible contributing factor: The more fellow racers I meet and talk to, the fewer sober drivers I think are actually in these races.

I think for myself, I’ve put soooo soooo sooo much time and effort studying books, practicing laps, etc.
I post all the time about revenge true, however if no one breaches etiquette no one gets touched.
I come from a culture that maintains itself the same way. We all in this community have a resource we share (fun races)
When a person chooses to act in a fashion that is A. In breach of proper racing which B. is really an offense against the entire community of Gran Turismo, which C. pisses me off I’m gonna introduce them to Dr. Brakencheckin, or Mr Hasselhoff, or professor Wall who is a fellow at the crash institute.
It’s the right thing to do.
Now I wanna qualify this by saying if a person does not know racing etiquette they should stay passive because most likely they have something to do with the cause of the incident.
Remaining passive gives cheaters positive reinforcement, causes mental anguish to the victim.
IRL drivers who breach racing etiquette get stuffed I see no reason it should be different in game.
Imo it’s not taking the moral high ground (just bending over)
That’s the moral low ground imo.

All that being said the more I race this pen system the more I think it’s the best it’s been in a long long time.
