No reason to get the 08 cars until the BoP changes, they're complete dogs. Maybe the Epson NSX if you like the sound it makes.

I suppose my recommendation should have made it clear that the '16 Lexus was a better use of credits than the '08. But, I remember one of the last couple of Gr. 2 events it seemed that people were using the '08 GT-R than were using the '16.

I got the '08 Lexus on the prize wheel on one of my alts. Tried it the last time Gr. 2 was in the dailies. Stable, but to me, felt slow.

You've just described the entire game for the last year....or more. :p

I don't think anyone will argue this point, occasionally PD pulls some magic from their hat. Can't get enough of Maggiore. Used to hate it, but that was before I started winning there. ;) One of my other favorites was Red Rock Valley from GT2.

I think Gr. 4 is used so often because it's more accessible to the average person. Racing isn't cheap, but it costs much less to race in real GT4 competition than a factory backed effort that would classify as Gr. 3 in the game.

I like them in the racing classes. I personally don't feel like those tracks feel like classic tracks. They have a feel all to their own. To me, they feel thoroughly modern.

Yeah St Croix and Sardegna have too many jarringly square corners to be a classic.
Not a classic track, but like classic scenery. They feel similar to a Mille Miglia. Passing through small towns, road signs, etc.

Sending in my mandatory video for the week:

Race A and B are slowly becoming my go-to(s) for fun races, assuming they're not GT cars.

Race C has been a nightmare since the update, but I have no clue if that's because I'm in a higher split, the mid-pack being the mid-pack, or some other variable I'm not paying attention to.

Almost every time I get back into 99SR something goes wrong, but everywhere else there seems to be no issue. Does anyone else have this problem?

Race A this week is hysterical. The key is nailing the double turn-in on T1 to manage the understeer and then letting it ride. Apart from the single braking zone it's flat out the whole way on the right line. That one braking zone is also nowhere near enough to recharge the Fit, so it runs out of zip around lap 5.

Really really dislike the penalty system. Not the penalty complaint thread. More so what happens to players as they tumble.

I think Players should get some type of penalty ballast, rather than bumped down ranking. I can understand that could mean how we have a free for all with everyone being S/S(a couple years ago?). I'm talking about holding station if you are already S/S, A+/S, A/A.

As per my posts above, I was bumped down to A/A. I did a Race B, figuring I'd cruise around. However, sometimes it ain't that simple. Had an RC Z blocking, even when I'm backing off. I let a C7 go by and have a try and still, the RC Z is blocking and holding us up. I got an orange arrow because the player rode the brakes all the way across the top to Forest's Elbow. I'm in the Atenza.
I passed the C7 into T1 and got too close to the RCZ at Sulman, but we're racing. That's the point. I have a car behind me. They can't really see what's happening. ANyway, I get by that player with an experienced move. The cut back. By the race results screen, I'm A/B.

SO, I decide to do Race C. A longer race and me staying out of harms way, I should have a clean race.

Using the RX-V, I'm on pole. another A/B player in the Vantage, is P2. On the second lap, the Vantage got close and lightly taps my rear bumper and the Vantage wigglesa bit. I get an orange arrow! A C7 catches up to the Vantage and runs the Vantage off the track. It slides and tumbles down the order. Race carries on for the next 11 laps and I win by nearly 4 seconds, ahead of a Beetle. Move up to A/A. No CRB.

What I'm getting at, it is a bit unfair to have faster players grouped with slower players. Many times, not the faster player's fault for receiving the lower rank. There's no perfect resolution, but it kind of takes the wind out of someone's sails, that could have a potential win, but someone faster is racing with them, due to being bumped down.

Yeah was just going to say the same thing. I absolutely cleaned up with 4 wins at Bathurst last night but tat is because I could not lift my SR to SAVE MY LIFE. It is totally unbalanced, there were races I led from start to finish so no contact, i lightly rub the wall at the cutting and finish the race in the SR red, like what? I had contact twice all night, super light touches, not even a penalty, and SR red. It's SO HARD to gain SR because you lose it so fat, it seems a perfectly clean race can be wiped out by clipping the dipper too fine just once. It is nuts. I was actively avoiding racing, letting guys past and still my SR barely improved.

It's a bit silly because I am simply too fast for guys with a SR of 50 for the most part, so I canter to these wins (won one race by 17 seconds) and my DR jumps but I am not racing.

On another note, had two races with a guy DESPERATELY trying to be clean but if he got ahead of me would change lines 3 times heading into the corner. How I did not ram him off i'll never know.

I think that's just par for the course due to the playerbase of GT Sport having seen a steep decline. Months ago when I played (I can't even remember the exact month it was, but it was definitely a while ago!) I used to be matched up with nobody but the same rank in Daily Race lobbies, that means the whole grid was B/S rated players. Nowadays? It's pretty common to see the lobby with a wide spectrum from A+/S all the way down to D/A and sometimes some C/B players being thrown into the mix, simply because there's not enough same-rated players to fill the grid, so the game fills in the missing spots with lower rated players who are also being processed for matchmaking. This is never a problem for the top-rated players of course, since they're in their own castle at the top, but not everyone can put in the hours that they do to excel above everyone else.

Depending on the type of race, you will either run away with the position you qualified for (or if you get ahead, the win) or have your race ruined by the lower-rated players attempting bad moves, driving dangerously or just having poor racecraft overall, resulting in a poor experience. I remember when I started playing Sport Mode, at first I only cared about getting wins, and when I got my first win, I was excited to try and reel in more. Nowadays, having good, clean and close racing is what matters more, and as of late, the game has not been delivering that due to the decline in players. Because the lobbies are filled with a wide spectrum of players (by their rating), the races end up going the same way, either on the high end or the low end of the spectrum: You either run away with the win, or you lose it all due to someone else who you probably shouldn't have been matched with in the first place.

A 12 hour time difference with combo A only changes the national flag on the driver doing the dumb driving it would appear. It's disappointing because I like the Miyabi track and N100 cars.

I'd say Tokyo is a horrible place to start with Group 3, you will find out soon enough exactly why. The GT handles well but does slide a lot under brakes and corner entry. Depends what you want, fast or stable or something in between?

I believe I did only one Gr 3 is my life. I have been playing for a few months. I still can't avoid spinning when pushing the gas pedal, in Tokyo is almost imposible to spin out

A good balanced car I believe would be good for me, not sure.

Back up to A/S with this one. Started P5. Beetle behind, divebombs at the start. I passed it into T2. Lap 6, I get loosecer and Beetle passes me again. PAtience for a couple laps and I pounce on it. Pass it and pull away. Caught an NSX up ahead as it got loose. Dispatched that. Caught an AMG GT3. Passed that. Ran in 3rd for the remainder of laps until P2 in an Evo causes a yellow flag before the Corkscrew. It lets me pass. Run on my own til the checker, 13 seconds behind the leader. Blue S and the Beetle is C/redB.

Got a win at LS. had a B/S and 90% D/S on the grid(I'm still at A/S, about half way to the next rating).

Anyway, started 5th. NSX behind and an RSR behind that. CAn't go a lap without a divebomb from someone. NSX does it at T3. RSR is so far back and trying to set up an inside pass at the next left before heading up to the Corkscrew. Like, DUDE, only one car can go through and you're going to ruin it for us to stay with the leaders.
Still sends it up the inside. I go a bit wide. RSR goes past and now I have to push to catch those up front.

Instant Karma video coming up in appropriate thread. Race goes on by attrition. Cars ahead are pitting, running wide or getting a penalty. I get the win, comfortably.

Turn your TC on, I use 2, some here use 3, Proper GT3 cars use TC so no harm in it. It's the best group by miles, you're missing out.

Try the Lexus, does a little of everything right.

Have not been able to race all week. Was looking forward to these combos, but next weeks races look like fun too. Heres hoping I can join you all on track this go around.

Next week Race B looks like a good way for me to start with Gr 3 cars. Any suggestions about a car to give a try? I tried supra and was a really fun drive.

Thanks

I'm not sure this would be my recommendation now, but your question reminds me of the first time I did an FIA race at Tokyo back in March or April of this year. The race was in the rain and I used the Z4. The reason I used it was because it was the car in the circuit experience for that track and I kept at it until I learned the track. At that point I figured, "Well, may as well use this car in the race!". The Z4 is slow, but super easy to control and keep off of the walls to avoid penalties. I was DR D at the time and just staying on track without hitting the walls (in the rain!) was the #1 priority for that race and I ended up with a strong finish :).

I have barely used that car since then, but that car and that particular race still stick in my memory as one of the early bright spots that started to get me hooked on GT Sport earlier this year 👍.

Thanks for that. I tried with TCS but I noticed how slow I'm with it.
I struggle with Gr 3 so I am not an expert but let's talk TCS anyway.

I got better when I set TCS=0 as it forced me to gingerly and consistently apply the gas but I became hesitant and that is not good either. Corner exits suffered. I was also bad with TCS=3 as I simply mashed the pedal and that is not right either. For Gr 3 I am going to experiment by using TCS but *ALSO* pay attention to the red throttle indicators. Too much red means too much stress. The point is - if you turn on TCS and simply mash the accelerator... that is not going to help you. So... a lot to learn.

Use TCS as a means to get better and move to TCS=0 *OR* get better using the aid that the game legitimately offers. Both are valid choices.

Personally, I like the Genesis in this category as it highly stable though it will get "wheel spinny" in second gear.

I have been at it for 200 days... Gr 3 is the greatest challenge for me.

RX-V is getting the job done at LS. -2 BB(as standard) and wait for the cars ahead to start coming back to me. A Lancer pulled away from me with a 1:22 FL and 4 second gap. By Lap 6-7, gap stabilised and the struggle was on. Consistent 1:24s, with my slowest laps on the last two laps of 1:25.0s. Tyre wear is even across all four tyres. It's similar to how the Atenza remains consistent and settles in. No surprises toward the end of the race. I know exactly what the RX-V will do.... regarding THIS combo. Five wins between my main and alt(3 wins for the alt).

Amazing to see the different cars(Beetle, Evo, RSR, Genesis, AMG GT) trying to remain composed on those last five laps.

As a controller user I feel I have to use TC, don't care that some controller users will manage without it, simply not possible for me to always control the input. Yes I can do laps faster without TC and often try quali laps that way, but I virtually never totally balls up using it so overall I might be losing a sec or so a lap, but I don't lose 5+ because I spin off nearly get back on track for the game to decide to reset me. Now I'm pretty bad so I'm not suggesting my way is the best for anyone else, but maybe worth thinking about if you struggle.
