Not 100% sure darth_tails, but I usual put CSA on strong, traction on 1. The main thing for the races is being consistent though, probably worth putting traction on 2 to start if you find your self on the banking, I did a few races this morning and noticed several cars spin as soon as the green flag dropped. Just 1 tap of the walls a 5 second penalty so definitely worth running a few laps quali until you are running almost identical laps. I managed a 2nd place in the 911 before just by keeping it clean, several cars where lapped. [This was in C/S fields]

Thanks, will give that a try later, was more meaning for setting a good qualifying lap time as want to try and get as high up the grid for this
race as I can since everyone is on similar qualifying times.

With the 911 I found that hards were good for 6 laps and mediums for 4. I started on hards because I knew I'd get 6 laps before I needed to fuel, then changed to mediums for the final 4. I was digging the way the car handled on lap 4 with the mediums, but then again I tend to use the throttle to steer on tighter corners.

That was the plan, yet the game started me with mediums as I ended with mediums the previous race. So I did 4 + 6. I actually had it the wrong way around in my post, the 9th finish was first for 120 DR less gain than the 10th finish in the race after. Tough competition, At least I got to finish those races, I timed out with the Corvette.

I found the car always handles worse in a race than it does during qualifying, even when there is no tyre wear. Racing conditions are different too, you have other cars on the track you sometimes have to deal with. :sly:

When I still qualified I was usually faster in the race. Drafting a faster player (of which I get paired enough with) obviously improves my lap times, yet also by myself I was usually faster as I never did more than 3 qualy laps anyway.

Going back to quali in between races did feel like the car handled more easily, yet not 3 seconds worth! I'm used to the pole sitter being slower than their qualy time in race, just found the 3 sec difference rather odd. 1:53 qualy, 1:56 best lap. I only managed 2:00 laps in race, 1:59 while drafting. No chance even if I did qualify.

Thunder! Na na nana na Thunder! Na na nana na Thuuunder dome! Yeh yeh yeh Thunder dome! Yes race fans, it's yet another day on the Isle of despair. Round and around and around we goes..... When I think oval, I think American iron. First race i decided to wrap my arse in fibreglass and drive a 'vette. Qualified P13/15 on a grid of DR/C and D. Good mix of cars too.

I was hoping for a clean race bonus. I thought I'd sussed out how to keep my paint job undamaged, but during the race I just couldn't seem to pull the heavy Chevy up in time, had to work off about 12s of penalties, probably more all up :dunce:. Finished P12.

DR down 560, SR up to 93.

Not happy with what should have been a wall free race, I decided to go again. This time with the Viper. Not saying the Corvette handles badly or is slow, but the Viper just seems to work better for me. Shame, I support Corvette Racing in the IMSA series. Qualified P10/15. The grid was mostly DR/D with a number of Bs and an A which was suspiciously down in P7. Top 5 cars, all AMGs, plus another couple further down.

I'm beginning to dislike starting the race in the middle of a corner :odd:. I managed to keep control when auto drive abandoned me. From there I just ran my race trying to keep it off the walls, which I found easier with the Viper. when I saw the numbers of some of the cars in front of me I thought I'd dropped positions. Took me a while to realise I had lapped them. and the finish:

DR up 360, SR back to 99 .

Love your little write ups Sven.

Looking at your numbers, your fundamental pace is not there to be paired with a bunch of B drivers. I qualified with a 1.57.3 and it was tough to podium. I finished 3rd and second in my two races but my pace was a bit slower than that, i made podiums through strategy and allowing guys in front to knock each other out.

I agree regarding strategy last night, I went 6 laps hard then 4 laps medium and i am surprised more folks did not do this. In the top 10 in my races, maybe 2 guys started on mediums and were very fast for two laps but predictably faded after pitting for mediums again. The guys that went hard/hard (majority) lost a good few seconds of pace by not running mediums IMHO.

Am i the only one absolutely USELESS at Suzuka? I ran 1.58/59's at the 'ring with Grp 3 last night so I am not a "slow" driver but DAMN, i get eaten alive at Suzuka. The corner leading onto the long back straight, i swear i lose SECONDS through there.

@ThePhantomAli Did you have to post that, it's embarrassing losing to all those cars as the only A+ driver in the room.

I was actually doing ok though until I ran into the back of someone, I think it may have been the guy you hit when he left the pits actually, it got me a 10 second penalty even though it was minor and in one of the slow corners and didn't affect him at all. That's why I pitted so early and tried to scrub all the time, then I lost it like a dummy with all cars creating a block in front of me before I was then a little too careful racing you as I didn't want another accident (and more penalties) at that point or to ruin someone else's race.

As it happens I wouldn't have won though, even without getting a penalty, as the guy who did win had perfected the zero stopper, which is where the Trophy is really OP and it should have been my strategy really.:dunce:

On the said Trophy it would be useless with a nerf (although it needs one), as it's slow in a straight line, so it probably should just be moved into GR.X and then one make races can be held with it sometimes and it can have it's full power.

I tried that 6 laps hard and 4 laps medium strategy a couple of times yesterday. It didn't work out for me. The mediums degraded way too fast. On the last lap I was sliding everywhere so I did hard/hard. In hindsight, by doing that I probably should have gone 5/5 but I kept it 6/4 because the RCZ was so good on fuel.

Agreed here, the mediums were awful for me. The fronts were worn halfway by lap 4, whereas the hards seemed to have around half the wear rate or even less.

I actually found lap 6 on the hards as bad or worse than lap 4 on the mediums.

I definitely found the M/M guys struggled, the H/H vs H/M is a tough choice, but in the end i feel the three hot laps on M more than made up for the two slow laps on the final lap on H and M.

WHat car? he was using the RCZ which is FWD no? I wonder if that is worse for M because you are asking a lot of the front tyre.

I hadn't played sport mode for a week and a half because I was on holiday. I've been back for three days and gotten wrecked each day with the driver that caused the crash always getting very small penalties (if they get a penalty at all)

I. Am. Screaming.

Just started 8th at Suzuka. On the final lap, I moved up to a respectable 5th after a few cars went off or slowed for penalties... until someone decided to punt me and someone else off right before the backstretch.

They already had a penalty, raced back to the line and only slowed for a second or two. They got 5th while I got 7th.

They ran TWO cars off track, where is the 10 second penalty?! Their Sr went up after this race...

It was a very weird race. I was able to clip through a user for some reason, but they were not ghosted. Note into the hairpin, a user brakes far earlier than normal for some reason and I am able to drive through their solid car. When we get rammed off, they clipped through me...

Video:

The kid that finished 5th was very dirty with numerous people calling them out. One player even called him a homophobic slur.

It's long past time PD makes penalties equal regardless of DR

I really shouldn't get behind the wheel of a Gr2 while sleepy :dunce:. I decided to do race C and not qualify to avoid the T1 shenanigans, since I always seem to be more cautious and end up getting either dive bombed or rammed and loose SR in the process. Fell asleep waiting for the qualifying period to end and woke up just as they were about to go to grid :scared:.

Still groggy I was driving Gr2 at Gr4 pace, and yet I was still making up places. Oh yeh, started P17. I made it through to my pit at lap 5 with no offs and no penalties, despite being rear ended 3 times on the corner before the chicane. Each time I was rammed I was struggling to pull up in time before the chicane because of the extra velocity being slammed into imparts:nervous:.

On my outlap, I was struggling with cold tyres through the esses, and the guy behind didn't have the patience to wait a bit for us to get through the esses and rammed me off the track. I saw a penalty flash up for a split second before vanishing as I hit the wall. Down to last place. I kept going, just focused on keeping it on the black stuff, and found I was catching up to people as the self destructed. In the section leading up to the chicane on the final lap I ran out of fuel in P15. I was startled and didn't brake in time for the chicane, which is sad because someone else had grindded to a halt and I would have passed them and possibly finished P14 at 80kph. Instead I finished P17 :(. Wish they had the crying smiley.

DR took a 1k hit but SR maintained. Another day above DR 1... barely. :yuck:

Not a lot of guys use the RCZ, were we racing last night (my username is the same as this board). There was a guy using the RCZ went H/H, passed me early then I put on the mediums and passed him back within a lap or so (I was 3 seconds lap faster on Ms).

No, Suzuka isn't my best track either. More practice is needed. Post a video of your lap as a loss of seconds should be easy to spot.

I'm not sure...I was running a RedBull livery, if so then it might have been me :p. In all honesty, it's all a blur for me at this point. I was racing from 8:30AM till 11PM and clocked over 850 miles...all of them with the RCZ on the Nurb GP. Also I think the RCZ is MR RWD. With the Mediums, the rear left was always the ones to go out first.

I actually found lap 6 on the hards as bad or worse than lap 4 on the mediums.

That's why I said in hindsight because in one of the race I did, on lap 4 I was leading by 3 secs, P2 and P3 pitted at the end of that lap but I kept going and pitted at the end of lap 6. By the time I excited the pits, P2 caught up passed me at the end of the pit lane exit so yeah I did lose a lot of time on lap 6 with the hard.

That 'Enhanced audio' feature totally messed on of my races today, it sounded like the engine shutdown mid race...what a mess this caused:

It's funny how sun glare massacres the view on every crucial part of Suzuka lol
It covers the esses, bridge, U- turn after, then next 3 turns.
Feels like it defies laws of physics in order to blind the drivers:D

I don't think I spun out so many times in total since day 1 on that track like I did today:lol:

Edit:
Did another one, did some blind turning, worked out fine in the end.
Also noticed as soon as cars start splitting, people start running off track, if one misses turn, they follow. Blind leading the blind:D

This “new” system is just terrible. You have no idea what cars you can pass and what cars you cannot go through. Regardless of that, in any way its just awful to pass a car ghosted or clipped in a game that is trying to be realistic. Terrible. Have no other words for PD’s new creative idea. Hate it.

Wait? What new system?

He is talking about people with penalties being able to ghost through each other and how it is inconsistent

Aaaaaaaah, yesterday was the first time in months that I spent time racing in the dailies and I wasn't aware that was actually a thing. That certainly explains some of the oddities I've witnessed during a few of my races

And its not only with penalties I think. You can even go through cars if you are DR A against DR B.

I dont even want to know actually ..... awfull fake idea .....

I started 8th on the grid, by the first corner I was 3rd!! Didn't have a clue what happened until I watched the replay at race end. Turns out 5 cars in front all did a ballet move and in unison all slid and hit the inside wall.
Even though I had about 15sec. worth of penalties at the end (all due to hitting the wall a bit too hard) I ended up 9th from starting 12th I think... only did 1 race as I was scared my DR would really plummet... spend a few laps behind @darth_tails, it was pretty much the first time I recognized a GTP member  I don’t usually pay much attention to that kind of thing :p

I hate today's daily race schedule in its entirety. I found all of them uninspiring and thus refuse to race in any of them. This includes race B which took place at Northern Isle Speedway. My qualifying for that daily race was horrible, and I quit it before the race can begin. From then on I'm through with Northern Isle Speedway in Sport Mode forever. Any daily race schedule is better than today's one, especially tomorrow's schedule.
