I had an awesome B race the other evening mostly against a bunch of Japanese and Aussies at Dragon Trail. The racing was clean, fair and extremely competitive. Had an absolute blast. Been a mixed bag of results however with the majority of the incidents being self inflicted. A tiny lack of focus and I make a stupid error which costs me big time. There have been a few very late nights in the past week, my wife asks me in the morning "what time did you get to bed?" I just lie and say 11pm (really 2am).....

I’m calling it right now. This GT will be looked at as a classic in years to come. So much they can do off this platform.

Braking zones are what comes to mind first. When you're going 150 mph, within 1 or 2 car lengths of another car and they brake even 100 meters before the normal braking point, as the trailing car there's not enough time to react when those brake lights come on unexpectedly. It happens all the time without malice. It can also happen on corner exit when you're right behind someone who gets loose. Sometimes it's unavoidable.

Oh wow, you went that direction. As for the braking zone, if you are trailing behind a car YOU need to move your braking marker back. You are in a slip stream going faster than usual and if you are trying to hit the same braking point as the lead car, you are trying to exist in the same spot at the same time, and you will likely make contact.

Really, it's just a slight lift off before braking slightly earlier than normal and you'll be a foot within their bumper at the apex because you're already entering faster than they are. There's no need to insist on the same braking zone regardless of who's in front of you. That's just asking for a collision.

That makes sense. I guess I just wouldn’t consider that being “punted off” rather than it being a racing incident since it’s due to racing hard most of the time. When I think of being punted off, I think of it involving pure carelessness and disregard for other people’s race.

That’s still the fault of the car behind though, it’s their responsibility to not hit the car in front. Yes, there are unavoidable situations, but hitting a car from behind isn’t one of them and shouldn’t happen if you’re prepared for any possibility.

Don't swerve in the braking zone, stick to your line. I can't react that fast to a sudden line change like that while braking. 2 sec penalty, oh well.
I was in the middle as the car ahead was on the left at first. I didn't want to brake in his slipstream yet he moved over to block as he had been doing for the past 2 laps. I decided to just stay there not to be unpredictable, yet the car behind insisted on out braking on the right. Pick a line, stop moving around while braking.

Yeh I'm not used to being close enough to anyone to slip stream, so when it has happened, I've usually screwed up the turn because I'm not used to going that fast and my normal braking point is too late . When I've been behind someone and it's obvious I'm not going to pass then before the corner and I'm being sucked in by their slip stream, I ease off the throttle because I'm not good enough to follow them in at that speed. The down side is slowing down means you get mugged by the guys behind you :scared:.

Yeah, someone does that and I'm feeding their soul to the wall without any guilt.

I hate that cross over when braking. We all know we can/could/should/would shave off speed or brake earlier, but momentum is key in these races. Stay where you are and I won't tap you.

That move is like Suzuka 101 in this game..
Out of all turns and straights, they always think the last turn is the best place for overtakes.

Looks to me that said player might've out braked themselves and was trying to avoid #9 which meant they swerved in front of you. The ping pong makes it hard to tell.

Why are the Gardens so full of dirty drivers ??????????

No way that’s awesome
I got my 100th with on my 400th race got pole position, fastest lap and clean race too!
122 fastest laps at the time and only 44 poles
Your much better at qualifying than I am though as you can tell by my stats
This was a while back up to 727 races now 218 wins

No racing for me.. waiting for the update to download. I'm looking forward to the new circuit experience. That track has me so lost!

Nothing worse then those ' cheeky ' dirty drivers who put you off in a way it looks like a race incident. You make a pass or they make one, and then the cheeky tab to put you in the gravel! It happens to often! Certainly @suzuka where it's so tight and always bending.

You make a very good point. Without a doubt, it's been my biggest problem in the game. I guess I never really thought about the slipstream effect when approaching a corner behind somebody. With nobody behind me, it's usually not a problem. When someone is close behind, I try not to brake too early, to avoid getting hit, myself. I'm still working on it.

Killed it in the Beat off last night. Picked up some 10 race wins, 3 or 4 pole positions, a bunch of fastest laps, got my SR from 66 to 91, and DR from 26736 to 29976 (so close to A). The car and track combo is pretty nice, I like it a lot more than the S660 at Tsukuba - not sure if it’s the car or the track, but this combo is much faster and the car feels more on edge. Quali time is a 2:14.488, but I’ve cracked the 2:13s in the race....people doing 2:10s is nuts.

There must have not been very many people doing that race last night, as I was seeing a complete range of both SR and DR in the same lobby...one race had everything from SR E to S. The fields got pretty strung out, but I had some really good battles with 2, 3, even 4 of us fighting for the lead for the full race.”

My goal is to crack DR A tonight, just to say I did it, then I’ll have a go at race B, which will probably cause my DR to drop right back down since I don’t know the circuit at all.

I really hope next week’s lineup of races has Gr4 at RBR in race C, that would awesome!!

All in the braking, dont be rough the weight transfer upsets the rear, finish breaking before Apex’s.

The combo at turn 6 has a load of time just gotta get confident on the kerbs.

Just had a quick session finished with a qually lap of 11.8, but that fastest lap contained zero purple sectors so the potential was 10.6.

My biggest issue with the car has been controlling the rear under braking, especially in the two big left-hand sweepers, it always wants to step out on me. I’ve progressively moved the brake bias forward, am now at -4 and it feels pretty good. I think I just need to work on my technique in those two corners though, really focus on getting off the brakes as smoothly as possible. I have a bad habit of slowly releasing L2 most of the way, but then release the last 10-20% of brake pressure too fast, which upsets the balance at the apex. Just gotta focus :P

Out of curiosity, in the uphill esses after T1, are you holding 4th gear or shifting up to 5th? I’ve been holding 4th until cresting the hill.

I agree and i have a theory.

a) Those stupid megane's, this track is conducive to them being a pest because they are SO FAST through places you cannot pass cleanly (or it's near impossible anyway) but they struggle down the two long straights.

b) the track is by far and away the most "slow in fast out" track in the game, the absolute fastest way around the place is slow into the awkward chicane and fire out for the uphill section and straight, the same applies to the awkward left through the esses with sand on the right, brake early and fire it hard left. And AGAIn the entry to the 4 fast right handers is better slow rather than fast.

This generates collisions as people howl in the slow way or have a Megane which is on rails through those sections.

Well that was weird. I took a stroll round the gardens a couple of times. Decided to give the GTR a go. Last night I beat my Trophy time with the Atenza, and tonight I beat my Atenza time with the GTR. First race I qualified P7 in a full grid, mixed DR/B, C and D. That changed at race time to P5/10 :odd:.

Racing was tight and a fair bit of toing and froing. The race was fairly clean. No Hong Kong flags with anyone that had the words king or boss ;). Towards the end of the race I got rear ended and got an orange SR. Still not sure why. Finished P6. Lost 20 odd DR and still SR 99 despite the orange SR.

Next race again P7, and again promoted to P5 come race time. Mixed grid again.

It was kinda mayhem. I was doing pretty well and gaining on the cars ahead when I had to go wide due to another car coming up the inside. Messed up my line and lost a lot of time, and was mugged by the group behind. I was rear ended twice and got an orange SR twice. I was pretty sure there was no overlap, so maybe the game decided I was braking inappropriately. I was braking so I didn't hit the cars in front! Finished P6 on a fuller grid.

DR up 220, SR dropped to 92 :irked:. Have they changed the penalty system again and gone back to giving both cars orange SR for contact? I also noticed no time penalties for the orange SR, so both races showed no penalties.

I thought 4th was quickest at first but 5th is where I’m at now, as soon as you crack that step out that part of the lap is seconds quicker, the fastest I’ve managed to crest it at is 94mph but the average is 93. Again its a case of as little steering input and riding the kerbs to try to keep a stright line.

But keep at it, the step out is the most difficult part as soon as you figure out whats causing it the laptime tumbles, I settled on BB at -1 or -2 not quite made up my mind.

Fwiw I was stuck at 2:12.3 for a while, then I shut off all HUD elements and went 2:11.6 then 2:10.8. When I'm trying to go faster I get too fixated on my speeds and split times that I lose focus. I used 4th gear in the uphill esses.

I'm still taking time off my Race A qualifying time and I still can't put a full lap together. Did a 2:11.908 earlier. I have enough time to start the next lap before I'm matched in a race, my first sector is .700 faster. Seven whole tenths!

@twitcher with the brake balance at 0 and the TC at 1 I'm doing that time with a controller and automatic transmission, it's all about smoothness through the big corners. First corner you brake slightly down to around 85 mph and keep it as close to the blue paint on the inside as you can. Ease up on the steering slightly if it starts to slide. Same for the big bend after the esses, brake slightly and you can take the whole thing at about 91 mph. That and the chicane is where I lose all my time, but those are the easiest places to make time up.

Yeah, someone does that and I'm feeding their soul to the wall without any guilt.

He was past before turn in. Some would say that is a penalty.
Passing under braking is a valid move and if the overlap is sufficient before turn in isn’t that a fair move and his apex?
Hard to say for sure without full replay. I mean punting people who outbrake is cheating.
