It seems like the door numbers really don't need to exist at all. Everyone is gonna try to get the best finishing position they can, regardless of a high, low, or in between door number.
It's probably best to ignore it.

That’s basically what I do now, but it’s fun to theorize about what they really mean. :)

It's been covered many times. It's basic matchmaking.

IIRC it works like this: The door numbers correspond to your place in the queue of the code. It's your unique driver ID for that race, as in driver 1, driver 2, etc. Your place in the queue comes from the matchmaking. When it's time to put together a race, it goes out looking for racers. The first one it finds gets #1, the second #2, etc.

it always seems to have a fast group, medium group, and back marker group structure that it's trying to fill, then it sorts by qualifying time. Most likely, it fills those groups in that order, so the guys in the fast group will get the lowest numbers, the guys in the middle will have middle numbers, and the guys in the back will have the highest numbers. That's why it seems like ranking, but it's not actually ranking.

As for why they are there, it's traditional. They've been on the cars in past GT games. Personally, I don't like them, but I bet marketing loves them because there is no way to deny a screen cap is from GT when there is a great big GT race number on the door.

Anyone in the top 10 Race A running without ABS? Ran a dozen laps like that and the car is clearly faster.

For some reason it's very difficult to lock up the tires and easy to pick up speed out of corners even with big mistakes. Very weird.

So update on today!

2 races done of Race C. First one was crap and ram raider central so I cut my losses and finished at the back in last
place. Lost 1000 or so DR points and 3 SR points. Not a good start!!

Second race can only be described as brilliant!

Qualified in 2nd and got a very good start as did 1st place, an Audi TT and he was ahead until the fuel stop,
he decided to go on Lap 6 and I decided to wildcard and run an extra lap so I went in on Lap 7.

Although I didn't need to I changed tires and took fuel and came out with the Audi TT about 2 seconds ahead of
me on track with 3 laps remaining it was game on and I took the victory with my Sonic lambo so quite pleased
with that.

Just waiting for the next race at 20:30 to see if I can get my DR up to next level.

C'mon Sven... you're only Level 50 and you have only done a mere 6000 odd races. You are clearly a noob :p. Come on down to DR/D, we'll learn ya :sly:.

I was nearly there, got down to 7K DR while practicing MT. It didn't last long though, KP didn't even record my visit to C/S this time. I'm back to 15K DR from the daily B. It's actually more dirty at the front today than the back. There are a lot of A/A today (well 2 or 3 per race, that's a lot in the afternoon on the NA server ), plus someone using the Turismo- tag got found out which resulted in multiple races of dirty driving at the front, between the A+ and B imposter, and shouting matches in the post race chat. Entertaining. There were a lot of very competent and clean DR.D drivers today, it's nice in the back.

Door numbers are in order of DR points for the people in the race are they not? Highest points gets #1 and lowest points gets the last number I believe.

Yes, however it's sorted alphabetically. DR 9000 comes before DR 75000. Any mix of C/D with B/A/A+ screws up the order. Then there's the mystery DR.S class which can be anything.

Thanks for the correction @Sven Jurgens!

Do you mean someone was using the Turismo tag without the groups permission and got yelled at rammed? I didn’t know it was such a territorial thing to use a tag.

I've never heard of that. Definitely sounds strange. I can't understand why it would be faster.

Ha ha. That's great. You just don't know who's who, nowadays. Two of the top 5 guys on the race A leaderboard have only been racing for a month, or less, according to KP.

Oh yeah, it was more entertaining than the race.

You are supposed to ask TL and he will approve the tag. He's picky about the formatting.

I normally cant drive well without abs but this car is different, and takes very little effort to avoid locking up. But it pulls out of corners harder. Give it a try. Tc off and 0 brake balance.

There was a B driver running 11s today but he would gain on me in the corners, half of the time. I saved the replay expecting to see him using csa and cutting. Lost my mind when I saw the yellow abs light and had to try it.

That's not entirely accurate. I've been on DR 1, starting the race in last or second last place, and assigned door #1. The guys at the back don't always get the highest number :sly:. I've seen a lot of people suggest it's a prediction of where it thinks you should finish. Kinda optimistic ne?

That's pretty disrespectful to use the name without permission.

If you were to explain to someone outside the game it sounds silly. But come on, it's just not cool.

On the flip side it could just be a coincidence that he has that name, he may never heard of that team before.

Though given how he's talking to them I guess he has.

i will give it a shot but i suspect that due to the fact I use X for brake, it'll be a big failure. maybe a thing for wheel & pedal/l2 brakers. my fastest times have come with -2 bias (front) btw.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea that’s how it worked or that he was the Main guy, Good to know. :)

I’ll try it tonight with the brake thing, I wonder if this is the New ABS glitch?

Just had a look for the first time, at the Kudos graph. I shouldn't have looked. That's bad.

That's what I thought. Looking at my week of races, I've finished in that # position and better. Seems pretty accurate going by that theory. ;)

I'll be running race A later tonight. Will try the no abs thing, as well as some left foot braking practice during hot laps. I have been thinking and realized that i would consciously mimic left foot braking whith my ds4, so i feel like i really need to get it down with the pedals.

How's your racing environment?

2 races ago, the race has just started. Grandma and Grandpa arrive in the driveway. The dog goes crazy, barking, running, jumping, kids about the same. I can't pause a live race... My wife lets them in, then my Mother in law starts talking to me, holding things in front of my face, here look at what I brought you. Meanwhile it's one of those dirty races with cars flying everywhere and I get punted a couple times. We brought you coffee as well, and how was your day. It's only 4 laps, I'll be done in a minute argh. Then I totally forgot to scrub the penalty I got from taking the grass to avoid someone and lost 3 places at the finish. I still came out with neutral SR! Victory.

Just as I suspected....

I can’t drive without ABS

It may be faster without but it would take me a while to get used to driving without ABS just to find out. :)

@Sven Jurgens You are the Man! I have my rig in the den and even then I sometimes close the doors to block out distractions. I couldn’t imagine trying to race with all that going on around me. :)

Now that is some good entertainment. I say let anyone use any name they want. Claiming to be on their team is a different story. Not cool. That's pretty weak.
@Oshawa-Joe says that you're supposed to ask TL for approval of the tag. I suppose that's for people joining the team, which is fine if it's his team and he wants things formatted in a certain way.

But if someone else wants to use Turismo in their PSN name, so what? You can't sensor that, any more that PD could sensor the team's name, because of their trademark. Lots of people have GT in their names. Big deal. Clearly the dude was being a jerk, but the team member telling him to delete his account because he's not on the team is laughable.

No offense meant towards any team members, but banning others from using a word, c'mon.

Sounds like this should have an entry in the meme thread, courtesy of you

Couldn't they settle this elsewhere? Like in private messages where no one can see the vulgar language? Some people simply don't care.

Oh lord that's much worse than anything I've ever had to deal with. I'm usually left uninterrupted when I play:lol:

Five races for me, all in Race B.

04:10 Room
Car: Citroën GT by Citroën Race Car "UGSF"
Start Position: 1st
Finish Position: 1st
Total Race Time: 7:53.050

This particular race has me defending against Jerram50 in an RSR throughout the entire race. This car is a sketchy one to floor the gas down out of the corners, but it's otherwise pretty stable. Plus, it has 7 gears to play with, making it one of the four Gr.3 cars that have a 7-speed gearbox (Beetle, GTI VGT, and R.S.01 are the other Gr.3 machines with 7 gears, with the Renault being the only real GT3 car to have it).

04:50 Room
Car: Lamborghini Huracán GT3 '15 "Gangut"
Start Position: 1st
Finish Position: 1st
Total Race Time: 7:49.5xx

This car netted me an instant 1:55.9 during my acclimatization period with it, then came close to beating my quali time set in an R8 (Huracán: 1:55.726, R8: 1:55.619). Then race time comes and I ran away, with the R8 Kiwi behind me bottling somewhere on the final lap. This car takes the characteristics of the R8, to which it shared the platform with, and make it more difficult to drive (I drive the R8 with 0 BB, while the Huracán requires a -2 BB for me), and give it some more top speed.

05:10 Room
Car: McLaren 650S GT3 '15 "Bitfenix"
Start Position: 1st
Finish Position: 1st
Total Race Time: 7:53.2xx

I can see the reason why some people decided to race for McLaren for the Manufacturer Series...oh wait, the tyre wear! But Race B doesn't have tyre wear enabled, so this car is pretty rock solid I should say! Had a nice battle against said Kiwi in a blue R8 that ended in my victory...

05:30 Room
Car: Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 '13 "Daijobu Christmas"
Start Position: 1st
Finish Position: 1st
Total Race Time: 7:49.7xx

This car is slightly more skittish than the Macca, but it has the sound to boot! Pretty much dominated the race with me running low 1:56s throughout the race.

05:50 Room
Car: Peugeot Vision Gran Turismo Gr.3 "Mono Bull"
Start Position: 1st
Finish Position: 1st
Total Race Time: 7:52.7xx

This car is understeery, yes but, it has the top speed to match the Huracán! Speaking of Huracáns, the 2nd placed guy decided to use said car, but it has 0 miles on it before the race, plus he's using all sorts of aids! I'm talking about him turning on CSA, ASM, and TCS at the same time. Oh and his slowdown on L1 T4 ended up costing the Malaysian in the R8 some time, and then the Atenza behind him ends up putting his foot down too early, which causes an accident between him and a GT-R. Then, he gets rear ended by an RSR to boot. Then, the Malaysian binned his race exiting out of T5 on Lap 3 by putting the gas too early, then decides to give up and sit on the main straight, and he finished a lap down from me!

Here's the picture of the Atenza incident:

Aaaand, that's win number 13. A full house, too. Pole. Win. Fastest lap. Clean race.

Daily C. In the Lambo. Pole at 2:05.399. Everyone in the top ten was between that, and 2:06.xxx. Should be a close race.

Except, I got away clean, while everyone else was battling for position. Lead from start to finish. Well, start to pit at the end of lap 5. Then to 3rd. Overtake the 2nd placed Megane Trophy coming out of Warsteiner. Retake the lead while new leader pits at the end of lap 6. Keep it tidy, clean, and consistent, crossing the line with 7.445 seconds between me, and the French piloted TT. Fastest lap was 2:07.003.

Along with a nice DR increase of 923 points.

4 races in so far, @sturk0167 took home the Dub in the first one, Congrats! Good race man. :)

I started at the back and made my way up to 4th, then I qualified so I could give @sturk0167 a go and he disappeared

Oh well, 3rd in the next race, 2nd in the race after that and then I got my 55th win in the 4th race, though it wasn’t a very fast room. Triple star Dub though. :)
