The Tokyo race. Why in the world would anyone serve their penalty on the turns? Just, why?!
.
Last week, at autopolis, i saw one serving a penalty right on the apex of the hairpin .... I mean ....really ?

By the way, i did 7 or 8 races there and that one was the only one not so clean. All the other races went really well and i even had some very close racing and exchanging positions with some americans and a couple of mexicans. Really fun and exciting racing !

SR rating has halfed today because of dirty drivers and becomes increasingly difficult to get it back up

Have they changed the SR system at all on the quiet? it seems to be MUCH harder to make gains. Last night i started at 55 and had two consecutive clean races and only ended at 65, that seems odd, used to jump up after a couple of good races.

You'll only gain 1 SR point per every clean lap.

Don't know but am finding it near impossible to climb sr

Did my routine before jumping in. (Qualifying laps on Race A for the km's to spin the wheel & get warmed up)
On lap 5... I got a Q-time of 1'11"999 ~! (My previous best was 1'12"6xx)
Did 2 races, a win and a 7th.

I put in at least 40 more laps after that trying to beat the 1'11"999 but the best I could do was 1'12"50x.
Thing is... I don't know how I got the 1'11"999.

I am definitely motivated to put more time into GTS.

Keep at it.... practice makes perfect (just takes a bit longer for me!)

I had someone serving their penalty on the entrance to 130R @ Suzuka. Although the game decided he wasnt a ghost for me and I got put in the wall and finished last.

Anyone using the WRX for race B? I just find using the normal cars I see everyone else using as boring. The WRX seems to work just fine.

I'm not sure which cars you mean by "normal" since Interlagos is usually very diverse in car variety but yes, I've been using the WRX a few times. I didn't manage my quickest QT in it although it's fun and stable to drive. I've still yet to experiment with a lot of other cars but I think the Lexus will be next after I saw people sing its praises.

3rd day of race B and it was time to play Dodge ball with some Mopar madness ;). Was very happy with the boogy I was getting on with the Viper and managed to beat my M6 time from last night by a couple of tenths. As predicted, people are getting faster. Added to that the points I picked up from last night put me close to DR/C, so tonight's grid, a mix of DR/D and C. Last night I started P3, tonight with a faster quali I started P12/16 .

Starting back where i had made me nervious. The dash for crash at T1 was a crash fest. I got jostled, but made it through. At this stage I wasn't paying attention to my position, just trying to make it around the track. For a change the handling for the race and qualifying were pretty similar :p. A lot of people were going wide or going off, and with the Viper I was able to keep a tight line ... even made some actual passes :dopey:.

I was looking at a possible 3rd clean race bonus, when I didn't turn in early enough for Descida do Lago, thought I had enough rotation to plant it, and ended up with wheels on the wrong side of the kerb. Penalty time :banghead:. Thought it would go down by itself, instead seeing the red flashing "Slow Down" put me off and I collected another penalty :banghead::banghead:.

On the final lap I pulled over to the right near the wall headed towards the start/finish and got rid of the penalty. The guy behind me passes before I get to the line .. carrying a 1s penalty  . If I had just brought down my penalty to under a second I could have still crossed ahead :(. Anyway.. finished P6.

SR was blue, so still 99, DR went up ... and across the line. Welcome to DR/C, please enjoy your stay :p. I have 1.5k to spend before my tour comes to an end. Day 0 visiting DR/C :dopey:.

As far as I can tell, no changes have been made. It depends on the races how much SR you can gain. Race A and B are usually capped at 4 to 7 points per race, while race C is usually between 15 and 21 points per race. The amount of laps (and sectors) determines the point value for a clean race. This week the daily C is only 7 laps so it's probably on the low end, only worth 15 maybe even less. Any draft bumps for which you get SR Down will quickly lower your gains. You can also still get lower SR with a clean race bonus as you always lose SR for any contact, no matter if you got a penalty or SR Down or not.

This week there simply aren't a lot of points to earn, while the money maker, daily C, is very easy to lose points from draft bumpers.

OK I see. Doing race b this week, I am at home today, first sickie in 2 years, gall bladder issue. people are better behaved that's for sure, picked up a win but promoted to SRS and tumbled down the qualy order :)

I finally managed to break 1:33:00 with a 1:32:6 on Race B using my ol' trusty Yank Tank (Ford GT) 👍. I tried a few races and ended P3 and P4 so pretty pleased overall. I don't think I've seen anyone else racing this beast, surprisingly. I think it used to be a pretty popular choice a while back.

what's up with that? Has it not been going well for you? I'm not going to join myself, just curious what your experience has been.

They promise evenly matched racing, no matter your skill level, you’ll have to fight for every position weather it’s first or last they said. Then I get put into a division with guys 2-3 seconds a lap slower than my pace, that is anything but fun, especially when your on the east coast and staying up until 12-12:30 am to finish racing on Sunday night and have to be up at 5:30am for work. It’s not worth the hassle it is to race with them.

Surprised to hear that.

I cleaned house the other night with 4/6 wins and a second place by .100, and somehow that’s not the top prize for the night, even though not a single other person matched those points or wins. Then they take the prize away completely because one guy files three bogus IR’s against me, what’s the point in racing when someone can just take the points you’ve earned rightfully? Or when a multiplier makes it that 2 wins and a 3rd somehow trumps 4 wins and a 2nd? Nah, I’m outy from that crap.

I just read the snail incident reports. I can understand your frustration.

Nah, you have to slow down when in front of another car so you can press gas and unghost right in front of them to block and steal their momentum, that way you don't lose any time while serving your penalty. Or on the straight slow down a little, let the car behind ghost go through you then draft serve draft serve bump them off in T1.

PD has turned penalty serving into a game itself. In the beginning it used to be that you had to slow down a lot before the penalty counter starts counting down. Since over half a year a slight lift is enough for it to start decreasing slowly while ghosting you. Efficient / creative serving of penalties has become part of GTS 'racecraft'.

The most popular 'technique' seems to be braking early for the hairpin on Tokyo to serve a bit of penalty while either blocking the car behind or draft pass them again on the straight. Just add it to the list of the broken penalty system where you get a 5 sec wall penalty for avoiding a car serving a penalty in corners, while a punter gets 1 sec penalty for ramming you into a wall...

As long as the penalty zones are not added to daily races, penalties will continue to create more mess than they solve.
Yes, penalty serving is really a game in the game. There is another game in Tokyo. It's called 'Ram and ride the wall'. Some experts have really perfected this game. They touch other vehicles, sometimes use them as a brake block and then ride the wall. For these players, this brings a significant profit in the lap time and for the victims usually a SR deduction and a time penalty. I find that incredible. How can the developers enable something like this in GTS? In Burnout I would understand something like that. It might even be a fun extension of the game. But in GTS something like that absolutely does not fit.
If I see that, I wish me heavy damage in the game. Then these players would destroy their car and their race on the first try. But even without this cheating, I wish me damage in Tokyo. Ramming and touching the walls has become really extreme there. Sometimes you can hardly see a car over which the red penalty message can not be seen. Yes, that would destroy some races first. But I hope that most drivers will learn from it and adapt their driving style. That would probably improve the overall racecraft and thus the quality of the race for all of us.

Interestingly, none of the last 50 posts in this thread that shined a positive light on Snail were a problem. :odd:
We don't care whither they are positive or negative, this isn't the thread for it.

We also can't possibly read every message on GTP. We have to rely on reports occasionally. This was reported and now you are being told this isn't the thread for it.
