Best car and strategy for Interlagos. I tend to struggle with pace while being conservative. Also my tyres died VERY QUICKLY!

Just sat down to try this and struggled. Crossed the line on vapours, nowhere near the front. Looks like the usual choices of Megane, TT, M4. Fuel map, I have no idea yet and because PSN is down I can't ask my friends who are up the front!

I've been using the M4 and I somehow seem to shred through my front tyres. I usually kept fuel map on 2 throughout because if I use 1 then I'd have to drop to realms of 3 and 4. Guys up front just pull away no matter what and guys behind me who qualified a second slower are sitting on my bumper. There must be something I'm doing wrong.

Yup, chewed tyres, blew through fuel still couldn't keep up!

I've done four races trying various tactics but I always end up outside the top 5 and over 10 seconds from the winner. I just don't get it at all.

I stay on fuel map 2, everyone comes blazing past me. Some have to slow right down to fuel save but even then its too late to catch them as my tyres are dead.

I tried starting on map 1 and tried to push as hard as I could. Had to turn to map 5 after 4 laps because I only had 4 laps of fuel left. Everyone who stuck with me all flew past and drove off into the distance.

I also tried running map 4 at the start and try use slipstream to keep up. I immediately fell out of said slipstream and got bombarded by 4/5 cars on the first lap alone. By the time I had save enough fuel I was 15th and the leader was 20 seconds up the road and my tyres weren't great anymore.

No matter what strategy I use I get pummelled by everyone else!

Use a different car, they don't all have the same fuel consumption and tyre degradation. The M4 deteriorates much worse than other cars

what cars are they using? what's the total race time on average?

Running 3rd, final lap on seaside II in the daily KTM race. #2 runs wide in a slow corner, I exit the corner, gaining on him quickly.... that limp dick break checks me hard while exiting the corner (like a well versed asshat).... I spin out, get a 4 second penalty and fall back to 5th.

He finishes 2nd... No penalty on him in the scorecard.

My sportsmanship falls from B to C.

*******!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...ugh

Try just running fuel map 1 for most of the first lap and once you're settled just turn it down to map 2 or 3 a second before the end of a straight before a corner section. You should be able to run basically just as fast as you normally would thru them its almost like traction control having a little less power then after u straighten out back onto a long straight go back to map 1 quickly so you dont lose any or too much ground and repeat. you should only have to do that for 3 or 4 laps and you should be able to go all out without refueling at all.

Those KTM races were dirrrrrrty.. But fun though so I can't be mad.. Dropped my SR from B to C but managed to get a couple of wins.. I don't actually mind racing with other C-guys. You know what to expect and you can use that against them.

One guy was just a little behind me in the first corner during the last lap. I was almost certain he was going to push me so I evaded and braked early and in the rearview I could see him going off the track and falling to sixth (or something like that). Easy win.

M4s dominated the races I was in (other cars were entered including NSX, Megane, Huracan etc).

Winning times were, I think, 16:25 or so i.e. 1:38 - 1:39 laps

I got hammered with the same experience as you. I was running map 2-3 on the infield, 1 down the main straight and still dropped from 6th to last through the race. I just got swamped by the field. I was using the M4 in the end but I felt like I was a mobile chicain for everybody behind.

I ran out of fuel twice and finished 17th and 18th trying different maps etc. Gave up in the end. These were DR:A SR:S although my DR has taken a big hit :(

I ran the M4 at map 1 for 7 out of the 10 laps and map 2 for the other 3 and didn't run out of fuel. You just short shift, which isn't much slower anyway with this car. Sure the tyres are not great at the end but it's the same for everyone and the aliens will still stomp on you if you get one or more in your race.

I hear this a lot on these forums, but what is an alien?

noob question I know, but needed to be asked

so is @zzz_pt an alien then? lol

He's comfortably quicker than me, got to be close even if he's not classified an alien in other people's view. Does not really matter much anyway, it's just an interpretation and I use if to refer to the guys always in the top ten that also run very quickly in race consistently (without the grip bug of course).

I think that's always relative. :) I don't consider myself an alien. Some others think that I am.

I guess I need more practice and more runs (I suspect, because I don't know any alien's habits or routines) to achieve a fast lap then them. But I never had a world record for example*. I consider aliens those who are contenders to or hold world records. Even if during races I can keep up with them and win once in a while.

I wanted to try a go for the Lake Maggiore WR but the leaderboard has 5 glitched times and the other times were made before the last update, when cars had more power / less weight. That renders the whole WR idea stupid. It's pretty much impossible to break a WR now with Gr.3 cars at least.

*had in PC2 around Sonoma Raceway but not anymore. My fav track in PC2. ^^

Drafted past @Voodoovaj at the line with no fuel Good race other than the pack of impatient M4's

That was pretty awesome. I saw you coming but I was waiting to go full fuel and get past that Merc. I wanted to switch maps before the last left but I couldn't, so I did it exiting the last corner.

On another note, I hope the Vette gets a power bump with the next BoP adjustment :D

Really enjoyed racing yesterday at Interlagos with the Group4 cars. Managed to do more than 7 races.
After having some awesome racing action and even managing to win a few races with the M4, I gave the Huracàn a go just to compare it directly to the M4 (I really like the high-revving NA engine). While being able to drive with the M4 the whole race on fuel map 1 (shortshifting + using slipstream to save a bit of fuel) without refueling, I had to run 9/10 laps on fuel map 2 in the Lambo just to be able to finish the race without refueling. Although you can brake a little bit later in the Lambo, get earlier on the throttle thanks to the all-wheel drive and the better tire wear (less and more even distributed) compared to the M4, the higher fuel consumption and the understeer out of corners made the car more difficult for me to drive at Interlagos, especially exiting the tight corners. I could keep up with 'slower' drivers but not reduce the gaps, even when having a 'perfect' lap and not missing a braking point.
My impression is that cars with turbo-charged engines are much more easy to drive quickly while still managing fuel consumption. I have a feeling that in the Lambo with its big naturally aspirated engine, you have to rev it completely out in order to have the best acceleration and thus can't save fuel without sacrificing pace.

Question: When you start from pole position, do you also prefer sometimes to let the 2nd placed overtake you and take advantage of the slipstream?
I don't know why, but especially against Méganes I like to follow them, make the drivers a little bit nervous and wait for the right moment (a little driving mistake or when the tires are worn) to overtake and try to create a gap while the other driver has to fight for 2nd position with other competitors.

I 'analysed' some replay videos from Interlagos and had to realise that all the other cars in front of me and even behind me had (more or less) less worn tires than me, even the fast fwd Méganes. So there's still some area to heavily improve for me: still be fast and better manage tire wear.

No... I prefer to GTFO of the pack ASAP and avoid any potential incidents.

EDIT: Especially at Interlagos, if you are anywhere other than 1st T1-T3 can be a nightmare

Well, that was a big time matchmaking fail!

Two S S guys including me, 15 D S guys and 3 C S guys... Safe to say that was an easy victory. :indiff:

I have to agree with you, BUT I'm simply not fast enough and still make sometimes little mistakes that cost time to be able to create a growing gap while still saving some fuel.
I find it funny that I had races where I was 'mid pack' and crossed the line with an empty fuel tank. I consumed more fuel than when I was in front. Maybe it's because you have to watch out for other drivers and don't have a perfect driving 'rhythm' and therefore use more fuel...?
