I'm not doing race C again, haha

That race is a complete mess

What happened? I've done two, both times with pole (I am A/S) .

First one was a disaster as I messed up my shifting at the start and fell back into the pack. Was manhandled the entire race by a Colombian with SR D who deliberately knocked me off track every time I got next to him, even on the straights. Finished sixth after finally getting by him late on.

Second race was fabulous. Had an incredible scrap with a Chilean and Costa Rican for the win, three wide down the straight and through the turns the last two laps. Some pushes and bumps but just tight aggressive racing without anyone taking the other out.

Two diametrically different experiences

Hm, I might’ve had the receiving end of the stick compared to you.

I was B/A, but the entire race was just everyone piling onto one another after every sharp corner of the track, which made getting up to 5th up really difficult.

I finished 9th in the end due to a mistimed shift (which resulted in an abnormally long time of wait inbetween gears), but trying to endure every collision resulted in me going down to B/B.

i just saw someone online with a DR S and SR C !! how can you have a SR C without having your DR downgraded as well?

I did one race on Fuji as I've never raced there before (online). The week it was on I was on the Nordschleife.

So I start last, never driven the car before afaik, damn it's so slow! I saw some penalties here and there yet managed to avoid it all and passed a few people as well. I finished 7th, got commended for my clean driving, clean race bonus, and all I was thinking was, I'm glad I didn't nod off during that race. Not even a pit stop for some 'excitement'. The track is so wide and then there are no real track limits either as I saw people go on either side of the kerbs without any issues.

Hmm it says I did 2 online races on Fuji and 21 laps. Was it that Fia race I did? Must be. I guess it wasn't very memorable :)

Found it, internet has a better memory than me. GR.1 with a broken car.
Well that was pretty disappointing. I did the GR.1 Fuji race, didn't qualify (was eating dinner waiting for the actual race to start) and started in 18th as 2 had lost connection already before race start. I did the 15 minute practice beforehand, didn't get under 1:30 lap time.

The race starts, my Audi R18 makes up some places on the straight plus someone crashed in T1 of course. So we're coming up on Dunlop, the car behind me has a 2 bar connection, either doesn't brake on time on lags into me and punts me into the car in front of me. Then in the corner he lags into me again. Then I notice my car is pulling slightly to the right, very annoying on a controller. The same car then touches grass and rams me from the side in T2. I notice that front and rear bumper and left wheel are all blinking on the display....

I try to drive the car yet it's just going much slower now so in lap 3 I go into the pit. 10 sec repair break for aero and suspension. Now I'm in dead last where I stay. I pit again in lap 8 for fresh tires and get the blue flag in lap 11. I move aside and brake early for T1 to let first through. Then go wide through T7 to let 2nd and 3rd pass safely. I stay ahead of 4th before I finish 1 lap down. I finish 16th since 2 cars disconnected including the car that hit me 3 times.

Yup, much better with damage. not.

Oh and the post race chat was some of the angriest I have seen in the game. Everyone had a blue rating, very few penalties, yet tempers were very hot. Good thing it closes after a few minutes!

Next up Brand's hatch.

For some reason I picked Jaguar when checking the races last Wednesday so now I'm stuck driving the F-Type. I practice for 15 boring minutes then get matched with mostly DR.A+ and DR.S again. There is only one other DR.A in the room. My punishment for doing well last week on the Nordschleife.

Qualifying starts, people are letting me pass on the outlap, then when I try to do my quali lap I get bumped off 3 times. The second quali lap goes better yet I notice my tires are quite worn already. I go in to change to soft tires as that seems to be the fashion, do another outlap, get held up a bit during my quali lap and set a 1:31 lap time. That puts me starting last, why bother!

The race finally starts and it's all going quite orderly. I follow behind the pack, not really having the speed or room to even attempt to over take. I pass one Brazilian that got bumped off the track who then forces me off the track in lap 3. Oh well, my connection to the pack lost and I'm not catching back up again.

I manage to keep the car on the road and pit halfway with me front left tire pretty much done. Then I pass a car limping to the pit for repairs. He gets out 6 seconds behind me which he slowly makes up to bump me from behind in T2, lap 11. I would have given him space to pass yet as soon as he got in range he had to pointlessly bump me, while the next car was another 10 sec ahead of me. He pushes by in T3 as door to door racing is mandatory in A+.

I make up one position in the final lap from someone limping to the finish. I finish 14th (couple disconnects again) and get 419 points. Whoohoo. My best lap is the slowest of all, no other Jaguars in the race so I'll blame it on the car ;)

To sum up, boring practice, frustrating qualifying, boring race.

Those 2 FIA races only cost me 1350 DR somehow, basically finishing last in both races. I lost a lot more for a single disconnect on the Nordschleife. I guess I wasn't worth a lot of points in these rooms.

Ah, Suzuka, but eh...Gr3...
Last night took out the secret weapon only to catch a wheel off track and spin 4 times in 3 races...Sheesh just got whupped.
Tonight looked in the garage and said “why not?”
Switched to plan B and decided to race. Got my qual time down and starting second in full BS room...
My chance was here! Just keep it on track!
Started great, chasing the first place 911. Third is hot on my tail...Breathe...
Had a big gap going into the chicane, but slightly overshot to wrong line...Forced to get out of it and correct.
Second on me now, can’t get by but on me in the s curves. Hard to drive those with a Car on you, although I wasn’t nailing it I was holding close to the line and exited well...Got gap and turned in a touch late on the right hander...Had to get out of it and correct and approaching the hairpin just yielded to the overtake.
Messed up the hairpin a bit now He has gap...argh.
Down the straight we go and into chicane I had to brake early for him since he ran wide on the super fast left hander. He made the same mistake I had earlier and I ran round!
I’m through! I finish without issue! I gain 1000 dr!
Lovin’ it. Good clean stuff. Clean race bonus...
It’s been a long time since I had a podium. I am just sitting back with a light beer and enjoying the replay...

Stay thirsty my friends

Did anybody else lose their entry into RaceB at 9.30 (UK) last night?

Got as far as waiting for drivers.. and then back to daily race start screen

I'm not doing race C again, haha

That race is a complete mess, everyone seems to yeet themselves into everyone, and then I find myself being the one at fault for most of them.

Went down to SR B, what a wild ride

Exactly this experience I have also made. I'm DR B SR S. For a SR S field you could expect a clean race. But not in GT Sport. It is rammed and divebombed almost everywhere. Especially on this route, the developers should be much stricter with the penalties.

This is a known issue that started a couple of updates ago. They still haven't fixed it. The work around is to restart the game, and that should get you a few races before it happens again and you need to re-start again.

Restarting after every 2 races works well for me, the most annoying thing is sometimes I can get a good few races in before it happens so I don't always remember to restart. Matchmaking is killing me today, every race so far has A/S drivers in am only B/A now as all A drivers seem to have little respect for little old me, been spun at T1 on race C already this morning.

I'd have had 3 poles this week on Suzuka if it hadn't been for been matched against 2 DR A and one DR S driver!!! I'm DR B :grumpy:

Stupid matchmaking

Looking at your stats, it's been a loooooong time since you've been anywhere near SR/S. I've only gotten reasonable match making when my SR is in the 90s.

Question - I am at the moment low DR C got knocked down last week. Any suggestion on a good lap time in that group? (to end up in the middle) -Thanks

Thanks guys, I will try to remember to restart regularly (bet I forget!)

First race for the night, I took the kitty for a walk around Suzuka. I was able to get within a few 100ths of my quali time from last night, so I didn't feel I was cheating using my GTR qualifying time. Last night that time put me P4 on the grid. Tonight was a mixed grid of primarily DR/D with a few Cs. People have obviously been practising.... a lot :scared:! P9/14. The pole sitter was almost 5s faster than me and almost 2s faster than P2/3.

The sucky thing about starting P9 at Suzuka, is that auto drive dumps you smack bang in the middle of the chicane . I was doing alright and was hanging on to P7 when I ended up in the sand avoiding contact with the car passing me. From then on the handling of the car turned into a big steaming pile of brown stuff and I just couldn't get back the rhythm. Turns I was making, I stopped making and ended up off track. In the end I finished P12. Don't think I'll be using the Jag again.

SR remained on 99, DR dropped 670. My next race report may not end with "another day above DR1" :grumpy:.

I'm enjoying Suzuka. However, in 4 races, I have made one genuine overtake. Every other position gained is because someone else has thrown the car off the road.

Likewise when losing positions, virtually every time it is solely down to my own crashes or off track excursions instead of being overtaken by someone quicker.

My DR has fallen but SR has gone up.

True, its been a long time since I played the game consistently due to the ridiculous (imo) change to weeklies. I dropped like a stone to B a while back and have not played enough to get it back up

My best passes on Suzuka tend to come from pressuring people through the S Curves since even a slight over throttle can send people wide leaving the inside open for an overtake. Beyond that, like you say, most passing will just happen on the straights and due to people running off track.

Last race for me for the night. Not happy with the Jag, I changed to the love bug. It's a very angry sounding car. A couple of laps had me at just about where I was with the GTR, but I just couldn't seem to match it. I started P8/14. I guess the number of players dropped at this time of night, because the only DR not represented was E. A finish where I am or higher will mean points :dopey:.

Again auto drive abandons me mid chicane and I manage to keep it together. I managed to hold on to P7 for a bit, till I lost the back end on a kerb, managed to re-gain control, only to end up in the sand before the hair pin. Down to P12 where I was held up in traffic. I managed to hug the inside on a corner they went wide on and through I went. I got an SR down with a time penalty when I lost my bottle approaching the hair pin and braked for the kink and was royally rear ended. It was before the braking zone so that was a fair call. I worked my way up to P8 and was right on the tail of P7 and 6, but just couldn't see an opening that didn't involve someone pushed off track. Started P8, finished P8.

The unintended brake check penalty dropped my SR to 97. DR went up about 170. Well bugger me! Another day above DR 1 .

The Jag is terrible at Suzuka, I made the mistake of giving mine a run out last night I started pole and crawled in dead last. Didn't help I just jumped in without any time to practice was off T1 I just couldn't slow the thing down enough and kept falling off.
Wow just did race C and someone managed to do a pit manoeuvre on me before we even made it to T1 guess he wanted that inside line real bad, I ended up at the back but battled back to 8th. SR took a hit though.
Next race am passing a fellow Brit down the main straight and he rams me off in to the pit wall, I complain at the end and he says "watch out for me"!?!
Total idiot.
..
Next race he is right behind me on the grid, great he smashed me off again I hit back because I lost my rag, down to SR C. Should have quit when I knew he was started behind me.
-64 SR after two races with that idiot.
Forgot to restart the PS4 and now booted back to main, having a nightmare day

Suzuka is reminding me a lot of Brands Hatch. Most my passes on both side of the coin are being had because I either put it into the sand trap or someone else did. I've completely given up on my SR and penalties. I honestly don't even care anymore. Someone dive-bombs me when I'm apexing on the race line. I get a penalty. Someone makes an obvious brake check 50 yards short of the brake zone. I get a penalty. I hit my brakes in the "acceptable" braking zone and someone uses me as their brake......I get a penalty. Don't get me wrong, it works both ways. Theirs many times I've made ham-fisted mistakes and side-swiped or punted someone and no penalty.

At this point my SR is yo-yoing up and down like Oprah's waist line. I'm fine with that now

Am I the only one that can only race suzaka twice in a session then I am shattered brilliant track but really hard work reminds me of brands hatch one mistake & that's the end of the race
Finally got my 6th win today after 300 hours 12 months of game play

It's unreasonably difficult in this game. I can clap around Bathurst doing 2.06's but can can barely do the same time at the shorter Suzuka (equivalent time would be a 2.03) and if you so much as TOUCH the grass you spin a dozen times. Cannot find any rhythm there, i find it impossible to race on and difficult to just keep the car on track on my own.

Got lucky this morning.

Race A. Started 7th. Finished 4th. Gained 2 spots due to something that happened up front on the last lap. It might be the first time I've passed anyone ranked higher than me.

I see the Beetle's proving rather popular again on Suzuka. I thought this car had been nerfed ages ago or is it just well suited to the Japanese circuit? Thought I'd give this meta a go and noticed two things. Very agile in the corners for one. The second thing I noticed was its gearing. Now I'm no expert when it comes to tuning (my knowledge extends to "put a Stage 4 Turbo in it!" ) but the car seems to cycle through the gears much quicker than say the WRX or 911 I was using earlier, therefore it seemed a little easier to handle. Had some pretty decent results with it.

The 911 RSR on the others hand, my normal go to Gr.3, cannot get along with this at all right now at Suzuka. I read something about temperature having an effect perhaps?

The Beetle Gr.3 can shift quickly indeed. It has normal GT3 speeds within a 7 speed transmission. Also, that thing isn't bad because it's nerfed. It is pretty good.

Been looking for an alternate to the trusty beetle. Haven't found one yet. The BMW M3 comes close but its braking isn't as good and it tends to understeer a little more than the Beetle.

On another topic, I've only been playing this game for about a month.....well, however long ago Brands Hatch was. I haven't heard of a unanimously liked race yet. Everybody has been saying this race or that race is junk for a variety of reasons. No passing opportunities, no flow, to slick ect. ect. Is there any universally liked races and tracks that I haven't experienced yet? I tend to like GR 4 a little more than GR 3. Slower speeds are better for my lacking skills. Really need to get a wheel tho so I can be more consistent and start using a MT

It's funny you mention Brands. On both Brands and Suzuka I can usually find a consistent rhythm to the course and enter a thoughtless trance like state. I'm not fast but I usually pass several people just by staying off of the lawn.

Love Suzuka, love Gr.3, mostly. Best Q yesterday was mid 2:04's in the Atenza. Other cars FEEL faster, but this one gets me better times- I guess it's my personal meta car? I'm in the same boat as a lot of you, being my own worst enemy by giving up positions with offs.
