I started playing GTS two days ago and got into the daily races right away. I've won Tokyo (in the Tesla) once and Maggiore twice, in the AMG GT GT3, but I don't have a Gr.4 car yet :( Which cars are the best all-rounders in Gr.3 and 4? I use a controller, if it matters. :)

Just my opinion, but for Gr.3 the Beetle is good for handling, and the Mustang is good for speed. For Gr.4, the WRX is good for handling, and the Huracan is good for speed.

Opinions will vary, wildly.

Same here with the Huracan. If I'm close enough I can out brake, go through the corner and be close to a second ahead after the hairpin not to get caught on the straight. If I'm a bit further behind I'll brake a little earlier to catch their draft instead of passing. No point passing if the gap is only half a second after the turn. Faster acceleration would help there.

The last couple races the 86 has been winning, no stop, best lap 2:11 while mine was 2:07.8. Problem is, I get delayed a lot in the early stages with the mixed DR. I could pass them in the twisty bit yet with so many people to pass there is bound to be someone that bounces off me or brakes too late. After T2 it works when I take the outside so I'm on the inside to the bridge. After the bridge it's risky, people like to block in the slight right, better wait till after the pit when I'm on fresh tires and theirs are worn. Then I can drive around on the outside.

Once I hit 99 again I'll experiment with the Aston Martin. Better get a margin before trying something new :) It's kinda rough today.

Update:: Might not happen today. I was back to 93, +2 SR at a time, and just now got bumped into the wall twice again and a car bounces of me from behind at the apex for a penalty for me. Back to 91. The Sunday drivers are out, not a good time to síwitch cars. I signed up for this starting last, yet I need to know precisely how far I can push the car each lap to stay in SR.S.

I ran another C race today. Ran half a dozen laps on mediums to warm up, managed a low 2:09. Entered and had enough time for 3 laps before the race. Put on softs and got a 2:08.18 on lap 3 to just better my Q. Decided that if I was top 3, I'd go s/s and try to get away, if in the pack I'd go med. Got pole and raced my race from the front. Had 1 lambo going well and only had about 2 seconds on him when I pitted on L4, due to some errors on my part. Rejoined in second, 3rd got within 2 sec, but was down 5 by the end of the lap. I was down 10 at T1, L5, but narrowed it to 1.2 sec at the finish. Got fastest lap at 2:08.7xx ant 2nd place. Entered again with the same plan, 3 laps warm up, 3rd lap was 2:07.896. Race getting ready to start and "network disconnected". Oh well, at least my 2:07 got registered. Time for food!

That is a profound truth! I haven't raced with a controller since the '90's, but for me, i like good turn in. Not a beetle fan, but the lambo seems to do well most places for gr.4. What I did was do some challenges and circuit experiences and win some cars. Some of the circuits only take 1-2 minutes if you get gold, you win a car. I didn't buy a car for the first 14 days, I think.

Nice. My last race went a bit better, +4 SR! I had to put my car in the wall though for +5 sec as the car ahead of me hit the wall under the bridge than blocked the line. 95 SR, one more +4 race! It's crazy Sunday, I go from last to 6th in the first lap avoiding all the crashes. My best lap today was a 2:07.5, last race I was on pace to set the fastest lap in the 2:07's again yet had to brake for traffic in the last section, slowed down to a 2:08.8
Starting 18th next, behind DR.D and DR.C as usual, keeping my distance at the bridge.

Sigh, back to 91 SR. Still not enough distance at the bridge, can't really with cars behind me. The car up front over brakes, car behind him runs into him, instantly slowed, can't avoid and I get rammed from behind as well. The car that did the brake check went through the corner with a car width to spare, way too early on the brakes. And since I'm the highest DR in that group I get 5 sec penalty. Good job PD!

Next race no penalty for me, however some idiot keeps bumping me from behind. Red S again, -1 SR to 90. Time for a break. The way the SR system is stacked against clean racing makes GTS harder than Everquest ever was.

I'm thinking instead of 5 sec wall penalties, the game should deduct 5 SR every time you hit a wall. That will keep all the wall bangers that create most of the accidents out of SR.S. Now it's hit a wall screwing up traffic behind, then scrub the penalty on the racing line to screw up more cars behind. 90% of the accidents are from people not knowing their limits and hitting the walls.

Got my 91st win earlier today in race A. I invited Mark (lester) for the next race, I kept up for the first 3 laps (he must have been a bit rusty because I almost passed him), then I fell off. I was a sitting duck the next two laps, finished 4 seconds behind and 8 seconds ahead from the field. Not my best race, but I’ll take it.
 


This was a pretty fun one!! Started from dead last, and slowly but surely got by one after another. Of course I didn't win, but hey I made placings, which in Sport Mode is all that really matters! :D
 
So the Aston Martin Vantage Group 4 is dismal on tyres, even if I can get better times with it. I went 0.6 seconds quicker than the GT by Citroen, but it's tyres couldn't hold up for the entirety of the race. I then chose the Toyota 86 Group 4, which is a brilliant little car indeed. It corners just as well as the Citroen, and is very good on tyres - they were still in reasonable condition at the end of the race. I therefore got my 76th Sport Mode win.

Car Used: Lexus RC F GT3 '17

Got pole thanks to my 1:57.231 set in the RSR last night and the race to my 38th SM win was a literal smooth sail (guess the two characteristics my RC F has in order to make sense, one for the handling and one for the livery are the clues here) as I build up the gap to over 7 seconds with the Fastest lap of a 1:57.935! Total race time was a 7:57

Car Used: Alfa Romeo 4C Gr.3

Pole again, and another win, but the guy that starts in 2nd is actually one of the faster guys out there, yet he can't go as fast as me around Maggiore Reverse, even in an RSR! I've decided to run the pink Touhou car to continue the pattern of running 2 non-Itashas and then 2 Itashas. Total race time was a 7:59 with the fastest lap of a 1:58.8 or something.

Car Used: Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R '15

Another pole, again, but a WRX gave me a good opposition here, but he couldn't make the gap smaller as I walked away with a slightly harder win, totaling my wins into 40. Total race time was a 7:58.909 with an FL of a 1:58.668 set by me.

This week has been the most stuck in with a race I have been since they changed from daily to weekly. I have done 40-50 races at Maggiore this week using every car at least once (No Beetles!) and the Atenza, NSX, GT-R, Z4 and Supra a bunch of times but mostly the GT-R and Atenza were the best.

Won and got poles in DR D and now promoted to C and racing very close and finishing top 5 in most races. I even managed a clean pass leaving someone room at the S under the bridge! They later got back past me cleanly and deserved the place and I have to say the matching 9 times out of 10 has been spot on. This is GT Sport at its best, addictive online racing.
 
It took another 3 races to get to SR 99 from 90, it was pretty unruly tonight. After that I tried 3 races with the Ashton Martin. Best was a 3rd place finish with 2;08 flat for fastest lap. It lacks a bit of speed on the straight, however it's also a bit easier to catch the draft with the extra acceleration. It's more stable than the Huracan yet eats the tires more unevenly, front left is already pretty compromised in lap 4. Huracan was still the better choice to be in position for the next T1.

Racing from the back was great, and with the pit stop it got me many fastest laps. It did mean passing on average 5 people twice in each race. The second time was always easier due to the bigger tire difference and then in the final lap I could maybe catch a few extra positions for the final turn. Often it was a wash though, just getting back to where I was before the pit stop.

Daily Race B, 13:30 Room
Car Used: Peugeot RCZ Gr.3

Another pole-to-win to finish off my Maggiore races. I was harried down by a purple RSR of yamashoudayo, but was able to secure the win. Total Race Time was a 7:58.091 with the fastest lap of a 1:58.118

Race A uses the 86 GRMN again instead of the Trans Am everyone was hoping....

But before that, secured a Maggiore win in the sexy rs01.
I like the Renaults in this game.
It appears the 2016 cars reign supreme in gr2. Anyone on here gutsy enough to try the 2008 cars? Only one I’d drive personally out of all of them is the GT-R.

Car Used: Nissan MOTUL AUTECH GT-R '16
Strategy: 5S/8M

Got pole position from my 1:29.344 and things looked set for me until the pits happened, where I went to switch to Medium tyres as my Softs didn't last that long. Unfortunately, someone on a bonkers 6S/7S strategy was hunting me after getting undercutted by me, and at the end my Mediums were suffering and have to finish 2nd behind said guy...

Really missing a race at Brands Hatch, my favourite track on GTS and has not appeared in a weekly race for along time, this is the real problem with the Weekly races.
Plus they seem to concentrate so much on the new tracks rather than going through the back catalogue.

For Gr.3, there's a decent few staple cars that are generally good to have, such as the Porsche 911, Lexus RC F, Merc AMG GT3.

For Gr.4, I'd highly suggest the Porsche Cayman. It's a little bit tricky at first but if you get used to it, it's probably the most solid all-round Gr.4 car and very good on tires. The Huracan, 4C and TT are all also very good cars depending on the track. However, I do feel that they require more technical finesse than the simplicity of the Cayman.
 
I just did two A races. My Qualifying time of 4:44 placed me on 4th of the grid on both races.

First race got me into trouble right before the Dunlop chicane and I got carried backwards into position 11. Fortunately many drivers underestimate the draft and so I was able to catch up and finally finish 5th.

The second race began much better. I was able to pass #3 before the Hunaudières straight and slipstreamed behind the first two. Both swiveled left and right to deny slipstream but by doing that I had it over the whole width of the track. And so I was able to pass an Italian on #2 and went on to pass another german on #1 at Mulsanne corner. It would have worked if a Russian wouldn‘t have divebombed into the pack from Position 6. Only the Italian got unharmed. Again I was back at 10 along with the other german but we both got opportunities to pass around Indianapolis and the Porsche curves. Along with pending penalties of other drivers in front he finished 4th and I 5th.

I actually like that race. It‘s not a course drawn by a 4th grader and a decent car which is controllable and not moving like a drunken eel. You only got to beware of mad Russians.

For me this makes -14 SR but +2500 DR and now a DR of B (guess I will drop back to C soon).

Anybody tried Races B and C? For B I would go with my trusty Scirocco (I refuse to take a TT or Mégane) but I think it‘s going to be a terrible wreckfest. And C... I never really liked Group 2. Is it generally clean or rather destruction-derby?

If you're just now hitting DR B, the quality of racing in Gr.2 may be a little funky. However, it should be much, much better than Race B considering it's at Fuji. I'd avoid Race B entirely if you're worried about your SR. With the way the penalty system is working right now, someone will wipe out in front of you at the downhill section and if you so much as breathe on their car, you're gonna get a 5s penalty even though they're already wiped out.

So is my AMG good enough? I also have the M6, Aston and R8 and I happened to pick up the Huracán Gr.4 from the daily workouts :D

I would consider it good enough for sure. Very sufficient at just about any track. I would definitely pick up the Lexus at some point as well.

The Aston is a nice car to drive imo, but its really bad on tire wear.

M6 is a little tricky with the turbo, it can get really punchy and throw you off.

The R8 is a fast car for sure, but on tracks with lots of slow corners it can be very twitchy and hard to control under braking, so I'd save that for when you build up your confidence.

I totally forgot to mention it's the 2017 Emil Frey RC F, not the 2016 prototype.
 
Tried race C twice this morning, both times in the NSX. I had done a league race here with the same combo a few days ago so I expected to be upto speed quicker. First time around, my quali time was a 1:29.1 which put me 4th on the grid. I did 5S/8M but was beaten by 2 stoppers and one who started on mediums and in the end P7
Second race, with the one quali lap managed a 1:28.8 out of nowhere, was genuinely surprised to see the time. This time I did 3S/5M/5M, the soft stint wasvery good but lost a lot of time in the second stint and was caught by someone who'd pitted on lap 4 for softs. Then after that I ran into someone trying to undercut them at the Coca Cola corner and after waiting up for them I finished P6. Bit annoyed at that one as I had a genuine chance of winning. It seems to me that the NSX is worse on tyres than the GTR but haven't tried the GTR yet to be able to confirm.
 
First race on the mountain, 6:30 am, surprisingly all SR.S. I start 12th, drive carefully as it's my first race, pass one car in lap 1 who then repeatedly starts bumping me while I'm stuck behind the next car. In Forest Elbow he does it twice again so I tap the wall on corner exit, there you go 4 sec penalty. That still works.

Then in lap 2 I get really bad. I try to out brake a Megane in the Huracan, however this is on hard tires.

Totally my fault, I did no leave any room, might not even have made the corner without the 'assist'
What does the game do, give me clean race bonus....

Second race I drive myself off at the slight right on the down hill, recover, yet lose a position, started 10th, to 6th to 7th. At least I didn't kill anyone. No clean race bonus this time obviously.

Third race, 7:10 am, now it goes down to E/B. Room of 14, starting 12th, or room of 13, starting 11th after the mandatory preload disconnect. The second car I pass doesn't like to be passed. He tries to force me off at the Conrod straight while I'm alongside. I manage to get back on the road before the 150 marker and save the turn down the mountain. Then he bumps me off at the final turn. I follow him while he drives erratically over the track wrecking another car. He has 5 sec penalty already so I rather stay behind as he's just swerving all over the place. Yet in the last lap he screws up Forest Elbow and I pass him, he still tries to ram me while ghosted. I'm in 5th now, yet he bumps me off again in the final turn. Not much I could do to avoid him, he gets another 3 seconds, I finish 7th as 2 other cars can squeeze through while I'm in the sand. This nice dirty individual was reported and dropped to SR.B. At least I didn't get any SR deductions from getting hit, improvement.

This is race is far too short for starting in the back. The track is great as always. Perhaps when I get more confident in the car I can over take some in the mountain section. First, adjust back to hard tires after a week of driving on softs. SR 99, DR down about 1K to 32.8, it's going to adjust down a lot with these short races.
 
A return to Sport Mode for me after a 1 week absence. The only reason I came back was Race B :odd:. Now I *tried* to qualify, but I put in a DR/D qualifying time. Sadly, this was the lineup:

I did a @Sven Jurgens without trying :crazy: ! Unlike Sven... I'm a bit s**t. I was finding the drive so stable and easy to stay on the track that I was expecting that last place was where I'd finish. Bit of a shocker:

Not sure why i didn't get a clean race bonus. Must have touched outside the track limit somewhere. No penalties. I made 1 pass on Mountain Strait because the car in front got a bit shaky bouncing off the curb at Hell Corner. The rest of the places were purely from attrition. I am still mystified why so many came off, unless there was some argy bargy I didn't see :eek:.

SR still 99, DR up about 450. Another day above DR 1 :dopey:.
 
Really weird thing was happening. About six cars including me, were going off track. Brakes were just not working. Even slowing down way before normal braking markers.

It started when a car went wide at Skyline. I avoided it, but when I was braking, the brakes were locked and my brake trigger was like I lost brake pressure.
Next, after The Chase, I saw two cars in the gravel at Murray's. I'm braking and the car isn't shaving off speed. Pulled the trigger and released to try and make the corner and I just went off into the gravel.
Again, at T1, I go off with normal braking.
I Watch the car ahead at T2, not making the corner. I just slowed way way down.
The three previous races, had no such issues. All bars were green for all my races.

Daily Race B, 04:50 Room
Car Used: Porsche 911 RSR '17

Qualified on pole with my 1:57.339 time. Race starts and for the most of the race, the 2nd placed guy pretty much attempted to fight me throughout the entire race until the final corner on the final lap when he ended up steering into the wall, allowing me to take my 37th win with a fastest lap and a clean race bonus. Then, the 2nd placed guy complemented my race, and I said "That race was incredible!" As soon as I wanted to feel sorry about his crash, he left...
